Thanks to editor Jim
Fitzgerald for pinch-
hitting in this small
corner of the paper while
yours tr was enjoying
a week off at the "little

Jim's kind remarks -
from now on we shall
refer to his blasphemies
as colourful explosions

To the victors of the
election, congratulations -
to the losers, con-
dolences. But in the last
analysis, we are all
winners to be living in a
democracy where we
have the freedom to vote
and the freedom to
choose for whom we vote.

The following came to
our desk from Mrs.
Dorothy Williams, RR 4,
Clinton. It is original and
refreshing and is
reproduced just the way
it was received:
"I checked last week's
paper to see if you had a
contest for the most
unusual Mother's Day
present, because I think I
have a pretty good
chance of winning.
"On Mother's Day
morning, I found a hoe
stretched across the
kitchen table, saying
Happy Mother's Day
1979. It was a lovely little
lady's hoe, with sharp
corners - not the usual big
heavy chomper which I
have used'for Ftlie past 29
years.
"At noon our younger
son came in, carrying his
new bride, whom he
plunked on my lap,

Mom - a daughter.' Just
what I always wanted
and now I have a new
daughter. I didn't keep
her for very long,
because they left on
Monday for the Yukon
Territories, where Bruce
is a crew boss and
Darlene is the cook in the
camp. Some honeymoon
isn't it? Both are with a
uranium detection crew.
"My third present was
a dwarf northern spy
apple tree. The year
Bruce was born, I planted
three Norway maples and
two apple trees. Now, the
year in which he is
married, I have planted
three northern pecan nut
trees and an apple tree.
