Exeter visited
by Flamingo
Unusual visitor
Exeter residents may
have thought they were
imagining things last
week when they looked up
into the sky and saw a
long-legged, long -necked
pink thing.
The flying creature was
actually a flamingo and
where he came from no
one knows. The Grand
Bend Zoo and Storybook
Gardens say that he isn't
theirs and it has been said
' that it is doubtful that
other zoos in Canada
would have their
flamingos out so early in
the season.
Grand Bend zookeeper
Ted Relouw thinks that
the bird may have
escaped from a zoo south
of the border or may have
blown here in a storm.
The big bird could even
have flown all the way
from Florida.
Despite Mr. Relouw's
attempts to lure the bird
to his zoo, the flamingo
has resisted. The bird
prefers to make his home
in the water and mud
about three miles from
Greenway.
School set on fire
Classes were disrupted
at the Prince Andrew
Public School in St.
Marys after vandals set
fire to a class room.
The St. Marys Journal -
Argus reported in last
week's ,paper that
sometime cluring the
• weekend the fire was
started, cancelling
classes on Monday.
Serious damage was
confined to one
classroom, but there was
some smoke and water
damage to another
classroom and the -
hallway. Although the
fire did not burr}. thr ugh
the roof, it got up the
flashings on top cif the
roof,
The fire was reported
to the fire department by
a person living next to the
school.

The Goderich Signal
Star reported that -the
glom has avnew arena

Will keep beer
The Blyth Standard
reported that the beer
garden sponsored by the
Blyth Lions Club at the
annual Threshermen's
Reunion will still be
running at the September
event.
The beer garden came
under fire at a recent
meeting of the Huron
Pioneer and Thresher
Hobby Association. Some
members felt that the
garden did more damage
than good, but a vote
taken at the meeting was
defeated.
The Lions donate $200
to the Association for
their part in the weekend
activities. Last year the
garden was Ipcated in the
Blyth and Area Com-
munity Centre.
The Lions have agreed
to close the beer garden
at six In the evening on
Saturday, the only day
they are operating.
