I►uuauu f c Lioness club active The Vanastra 'and District Lioness Club had its first dinner meeting last Thursday, May 3rd in the Vanastra Community Centre. A11 the members of the club were present and the meal was pot luck. Mr. Clem Goulding, our liaison officer from the Lions Club was present to help us with our first meeting. The meeting was called to order by vice-president Myrna Smith and business was discussed. The events mentioned were the planting of flowers scheduled for June 2nd, rummage sale, June 23rd and catering of the golf tournament in Seaforth on May 26th. Committees were set up for these events and also a fair committee for the Lions fall fair on August 18. A draw was held for a small prize donated by Shirley Dinsmore. Mr. Clem Goulding won a small artificial flower /arrangement. Diane Ryan our "Stem Twister" made sure she fined everyone. But' watch out girls - I think she learned some new tricks on our trip to the Bayfield Lioness Club. We made a visit to the Bayfield Club Monday, May 7. It taught us a lot and also showed us how pusy we can be. A thank you goes out to ,the Bayfield Lioness for letting us join in on their meeting. Our next meeting is to be June 2 and will be a joint meeting with our Lions Club. Constable Bill Wilson of the Goderich OPP detachment will be guest speaker for the evening. Community news and notes The Lions Club.. is holding a dance June 15th to raise money for the ball park. Music will be supplied by "Jim Medd Country". Tickets are $10 a couple and lunch will be provided. Cookie„ Day for our Brownies and Guides was a great success. They wish to thank all the mothers who drove and e�spe ially all those lieop1e who supported them bypurchasing their cookies. The Lioness Club will be selling refreshments at the fireworks display on May 21. The Brownies, Cubs, Guides and Scouts will be selling sparklers at the fireworks display. They will be 10 cents a piece. The Lions Club will be running the fireworks this year and the cost will be $2 per car load. At bingo last Tuesday night Norma Porter of Goderich and Judy Dixon of Clinton split the first share -the -wealth for $42.50 each. Marion Sproule of Auburn won eighty-nine dollars in the second and Judy Dixon of Clinton won $91 in the third share -the -wealth. The $200 jackpot was won by Marlene Harte of Clinton. Bingo starts at 8:00 p.m. every Tuesda More players needed The Tuckersmith Baseball League is having another registration the Friday, May 11, 1979 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Saturday May 12.from 11:00 - 1:00 at the Vanastra Com- munity Centre. We need more children to sign up and play in the following divisions: boys, pee wees, 11 and under as of January 1, 1979; girls, bantam, 15 and under as of January 1, 1979; boys' bantam, 15 and under as of January 1, 1979; girlsy midget, 17 and under. A's of January 1, 1979; and boys midget, 17 and under as of January 1, 1979. A baseball clinic is being held on May 14, 1979 at the Vanastra Recreation Centre for coaches, parents and children. The clinic is to go over the rules of the baseball league,. that we are in and also to acquaint the coaches with some baseball skills that will help them in coaching the bantams and pee wees. Due to a lack of interest y shown the tyke division has been cancelled and players in that division will play in the pee wees. Retired missionary comes to church This Sunday morning at the 11 a.m. service Reverend Muller will preach his in sermon. He is a retired missionary from Braztl'''and he will serve the church in Vanastra for a few months this summer. Reverend Muller and his wife will be living at 34 Victoria Blvd. Everyone is welcome. Recipe Corner Salmon Loaf 2 cups fish, canned fresh 1/ cup powdered milk 1 grated onion - 2 or 3 eggs, seperated 2 tbsp:,chopped parsley 1 chopped green pepper pinch salt, pepper and cayenne 1/2 cup wheat germ or bread crumbs Any left -over vegetables or shredded carrots. Combine all ingredients, adding beaten egg whites at the end; pack in oiled baking dish; sprinkle with wheat germ or bread crumbs and bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. according to directions on package. Add cream cheese and mix well. Spread on congealed salad. Chill. Step 3: 1 tbsp. lemon iuice: 2 Fogs hpatpn. pinch salt; 1 cup pineapple juice; 2 tbsp. flour; 3/ cup sugar. Mix. This display is intended to give persons outside of the Vanastra community the opportunity to take a peek at some of the things that have been happening at the Vanastra Public School over the past two years.
