There always seems to
be one morning of every
spring when the winter
wraps come off and there
it is all beautiful and
green. That was what it
was like driving up the
Bayfield Road this
morning, Tuesday, Huron
County at its best.
Passing one field there
were two beautiful
standard bred horses
silhouetted in the mor-
ning sun, against a carpet
of green.

We have a dearth of
social news this week. Do
send in some news.
Someone must have been
somewhere or had
visitors. A phone call to
the office 482-3443 will do,
or write it in if you wish.
We do have a few items
which bear on the life of

Bicycle safety measures needed
Four bicycles were
stolen in Clinton over the
weekend. Only one was
licenced, with a 1977
registration.
No bicycles have been
licenced in Clinton since
that time becausethe
pertinent by-law has
since expired. Council
has not set a new one or
established a new licence
fee.
"S,ome people are
perturbed that there are
no licences," Clinton
police chief Lloyd
Westlake said.
He added, "I think it
was a mistake not having
the licences."
When bikes are stolen
the only information that
the police have to go on
are past registrations.
The old licences, which
cost $I, included the
owner's name, the bike's
serial number and the
licence number. Three
copies of this information
were kept at the police

station. The owner had
the copy of the licence
and a copy was sent to
the Bicycle Guild in
Montreal.
Chief Westlake said
that the licences made
identification of stolen or
lost bicycles so much
easier. Now when a bike
is.reported stolen, and the
police recover some, the
owner must come in and
correctly identify his.
Chief Westlake
suggested that a good
way to have some sort of
positive identification is
for the owner to write
down the bike's serial
number as a safety
measure.
