Before the snowstorm on the weekend, several warm days last week gave the Clinton public works department a chance to begin cleaning up the tons and tons of sand covering town streets. (News -Record photo) Queensway residents party "Birthday Greetings" to Isobel Sproat and Bella Drovers Visitors during the week were Mrs. Pearl Erratt with her husband Russell; Ray Weurth visited his mother Mrs. Lou Wourth; and Mr. Alderson and daughter visited Mrs. Vivian Alderson. Mrs. Ruth Durand visited her mother Nell Kendrick; Mrs. Dora Hoggarth was visited by her husband Mr. Rozendal and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Soepboer visited with Mrs. Alice Rozendal. Chester Dunn visited Vera Laramie. The high scorer for bowling was Mr. Neil Regan with 89. The church service was conducted on Tuesday by .Rev. Van Essen and Mrs. Van Essen with Louise Mitchell accompanying at the piano. The Ladies of chiselhurst entertained the residents with treats and bingo on Monday. Brucefield news By Mrs. H.F. Berry The Tuckersmith Unit I of the Brucefield UCW held their St. Patrick's meeting on March 12. A small attendance of nine answered the roll call, giving a verse for St. Patrick's Day. Mrs. E. Stoll conducted the devotion period in the absence 'of Mrs. Mary Haugh who is a patient in hospital. Mrs. Stoll opened the meeting with prayer and a hymn was sung with Mrs. Scott at the piano. The scripture was read by Mrs. Stoll. A number of cards were signed to be sent to group members who are ill. Mrd. Stoll then took human rights as her topic. After the offering was received, president Mr_ M. Broadfoot chaired the business portion of the meeting. Mrs. Sillery gave the •secretary's report. Get well cards were sent to Mrs. Haugh, Mrs. Caldwell, Mrs. N. Walker and Miss E. McDonald and Mrs. Jean Hen- derson. Invitations were ac- cepted from the Nor- thside Church in Seaforth on March 27 and from the Wesley -Willis Church in on April 1. The next meeting on April 9, the losers in the penny contest will serve a dinner, followed by a bake sale. After the meeting closed, Mrs. Alice Ham and Mrs. Ann Broadfoot served lunch. Synodical to be held Mrs. Malcom Dougall presided at the March meeting of the WMS of Carmel Presbyterian Church on Tuesday and 'read a poem "Your Place". Mrs. Rochus Faber was in charge of the Devotional and read the Scripture Psalm 2. Her topik was "Pet- tiness ; Keep Us 0 God from pettiness. Let Us be large in Word and Thought and Deed: Mrs. Malcom Dougall and Mrs. Edith Bell played a piano duet "In The Garden". The Synodical will be held in Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich April 10th and 11th. The Spring Rally will be held in Carmel Church in May. The Ladies' Aid Meeting followed with Mrs. Clarence Volland presi ,in,g. Several items of business were discussed. Hensall supper largely attended By Bertha MacGregor vuests were treated to a pot luck supper on Monday evening, hosted by the United Church Women of Hensall. Resident minister Rev. Garnet Husser en- tertained '•rwith a piano solo following the evening meal. With a graphic narration of his activities as a well driller in Bangladesh, the Rev. Bruce Eaton of Sebringville gave a very interesting account of his work in that country. As a United Church Missionary in Bangladesh Mr. Eaton was credited with developing a bamboo filter used in well drilling. This filter was made at one tenth the cost of the plastic filter, it replaced. The Church of Scotland in India, Roman Catholic Church in Bangladesh and the U.S.A. Presbyterian Church in Zaire, Africa have all engaged the professional well -drilling talents of Mr. Eaton. Colourful slides were shown to further explain Mr. Eaton's remarks. Native crops in Bangladesh include wheat, rice, and most vegetables familiar to Huron County. Bangali farmers were taught by an American from California to grow their vegetables in the bed system to utlize rainfall and irrigation to best advantage. Jute is one of the few exports of this un- derdeveloped country. Unfortunately this commodity is becoming more difficult to market because of the availability of plastic. The annual beef bar- beque sponsored by the United Church Women of Hensall, will be held on Wednesday • April 25th. The next UCW General meeting will be held on June 4th at 8:15 p.m. 4-H Group • meet Hensall _ I I 4-H group held their meeting at the horse of Mrs. Fuss on Tuesday evening, when the minutes of the last meeting were read by Betty Beer. The members read about the selection and care of scarves and learned how to tie them in various ways. Since two meetings were combined, the members also learned about gloves, how to determine the size of your hands , selection, care and different kinds of seams of gloves. C.P.T. final euchre The CPT committee of the IOOF and Rebekah Lodges held their final euchre of the season on Friday evening in the local hall with six tables playing euchre. Following are the prize winners: ladies' high, Mrs. Ross Broadfoot; ladies' consolation, Bertha MacGregor; gent's high, Perc Cam- pbell; gent's consolation, Cecil Pepper; lone hands, Mrs. E. Riley. Lucky draw winners were Bill Rogerson and Mrs. Grace Drummond. Jack Upshall was Master of Ceremonies. Amber Lodge Mrs. Elizabeth Riley, Vice Grand, presided at the regular meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge on Wednesday evening in the absence of the Noble Grand • Mrs. Hazel Cor- bett and was assisted by Mrs.. Olga Chipchase P.N.G. Mrs. Riley reported for the visiting committee and the C.P. committee. Following the meeting, bingo euchre was played and lunch served. Several past grands were en– tertained at Pride of Huron Lodge Exeter on Thursday evening. • Auxiliary donates bursary The March meeting of the Ladies' Legion Auxiliary , was; held on Tuesday evening with"the president Mrs. Beatrice Uyl presiding when a donation was made to the Legion Bursary Fund. The Auxiliary will remember veterans in Westminister Hospital on their birthdays in April and there was con- siderable discussion over catering to banquets and weddings. Mrs. Iva Reid, sports officer, reported on the sports activities and the bowling tournaments coming up in the future. Lunch was served at the close. Personals Mrs. Edgar Munn returned home after spending a week with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Don Gooding and Dale in Parkhill. Mrs. Watson, Seaforth and Mr. and Mrs. E. Ritcher of Kitchener visited recently with Mrs. C. Christie. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett returned home on Saturday after vacationing in Florida for the past three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Perc Campbell returned to their home following several weeks holidaying in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett in company with Mr. and Mrs. Les Adams of Exeter spent three weeks in Florida where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Flynn and Miss Sharon Morenz and also visited with relatives in North Carolina. U.C,W. meets. Following a morning of quilting the UCW of Chiselhurst United Church met at the home of Mrs. Alvin Cole. The meeting opened with the president, Mrs. J. Brintnell, presiding. Mrs. Freda Boa had the worship on "Talents". United church notes Rev. T. Garnet Husser conducted service in Hensall United Church on Sunday using as his sermon "Jesus Is Lord". The choir under the direction of Mrs. Marianne McCaffrey sang "Praise Ye The Lord" with Dr. Ralph Topp at the organ. Prayer service will be held at ,7 pm, Thursday March 15th.
