Because he was made in the image of God man possessed a complete personality and the capacity to make moral decisions. The account of how Adam and Eve sinned is given In Genesis 3: 1-6. Satan appeared in the form of a serpent., a very at- tractive creature at that time. God had told Adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. It was o very simple prohibition given to test Adam and Eve In their obedience to God. Satan suggested by implication that God was keeping something good from them and was being un- necessarily severe in% His prohibition. Eve fell Into Satan's trap and In her reply minimized God'orgoodness and magnified His strictness. In, quoting God's com- mand she left out "freely" and added "neither shall ye touch it." Satan proceeded to challenge •the certainty of punishment and to deny the truthfulness of God's Word. Eve was deceived Into doubting God's goodness and His truthfulness and disobeyed His Word in eating the fruit of the forbidden tree. Adam was not deceived, but followed Eve in direct disobedience to God's Word. Both became sinners. Clinton Area Believers Box 546-CLINTON Church Services ALL SERVICES ON .
