PAGE 20-CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1978 Hensall - Auxiliary presents life membership By Bertha MacGregor The president Mrs. Beatrice Uyl presided at the December meeting of the Legion Ladies' Auxiliary on Tuesday evening and presented a life membership pin to Mrs. Leona Parke and also presented ten-year pins to Iva Reid, Mildred Chalmers, Wanda McClinchey, and Alice Neilands. Plans were discussed for catering to weddings and banquets in the future. The "money roll" draw will be made on December 22nd. M bers had an exchange of Christmas gifts and refreshments were served. Rebekahs hold party Noble Grand ' Mrs. Hazel Corbett presided for the Christmas meeting of Arnber Rebekah Lodge, assisted by the vice -grand, Mrs. Elizabeth Riley, who gave the report of the visiting committee. A donation was voted to Family and Children's Services. The entertainment committee of Margaret Consitt, Dorothy Parker, and Vera Lemmon were in charge of the program and the exchange of gifts. Mrs. Evelyn McBeath gave a reading "Ode to Christmas" and Mrs. Isobel Rogerson, ac- companied and led in singing Christmas Carols. A delicious lunch was served from decorated tables by the social Sheila Richard is .new Centre president Sheila Richards of RR 3 Brussels was elected president of the Blyth Centre for the Arts recently at the organization's annual meeting in Blyth's Memorial Hall. She replaces Blyth publisher Keith Roulston, a founder of the Blyth Summer Festival, who will remain on the board. Audience figures are up for the 1978 fourth season of the theatre, artistic director James Roy told BFCA members and he said Blyth is the only summer theatre in Ontario that is doing original Canadian, locally oriented shows. The director who has guided the Blyth. theatre since its beginning said he plans to leave his post after the 1979 season. He cited the installation of air conditioning, with the aid of a Ministry of Culture and Recreation grant as making a major improvement. Con- struction is . underway. this. Winter of a number .of. important fire safety improvements to the hall. Box office receipts for the 1978 summer season were in the neigh- bourhood of $43,000. The Blyth Centre board has a deficit of $5,000 and fund raising efforts to eliminate it are con- tinuing , on-tinuing, outgoing president Keith Roulston reported. The Adventurers presented a beautiful pantomime entitled, A Festival of Lights. The storytellers were Dianne Wilson and Julie Townsend. The senior choir sang a hymn and the large junior choir also sang a carol, directed by Bar- bara Livermore and,. Barbara Moffatt. Happy Hour The Happy Hour group held their final meeting of the year on Monday night in the Kippen United Church. They enjoyed making crafts and having a Christmas party. Christmas Concert A Christmas concert was held in the Brucefield Church on Sunday, December 10. Along with the performances put on by the Sunday School classes, Santa Claus also made an appearance. For the evening the entertainment included: kindergarten cla Ago; primary c ass, Christmas Bell Drill; Cindy Walters, The Night Before Christmas; juniors, Santa Goes Shopping; David Moffatt and Darrell Black, Talk at the Co-op; in- termediates, Strike in Santa Claus Land and The Night that Was. During the program, the audience participated in the singing of carob, it movies for kids. Along with the new president Mrs. Richards, the executive of the board includesnewly elected vice-president Lynda Lentz of Belgrave, secretary Bev Katzin of RR 3 Blyth and treasurer Brock Vodden of Blyth. Other directors are Betty Battye, Cenetta Bainton, Jim Lawrie, Helen Gowing and Mr. Roulston all of Blyth, Carol Bale and Marion Zinn of Lucknow, June Hill and John McKibbon of Goderich, Susan White and Rob Tetu of Seaforth. Presentation The neighbours and relatives from the second concession of Hay and the Blind Line surprised Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sangster and Brad on Tuesday evening when they assembled to wish them their very best wishes in their new home in Hensall. They were presented with gifts - the accompanying address was read by Mrs. Robert Campbell. Jim and Edna Mae made a fitting reply thanking everyone and a social hour followed where refreshments were served. WMS elects officers The president, Mrs. Harvey Hyde, presided for the Christmas meeting of Carmel Church WMS on Tuesday and opened the meeting with Christmas poems. The Christmas devotional was presented by Mrs. Earl Campbell, assisted by Mrs. Perc. Campbell, while Mrs. Malcom Dougall and Mrs. Edith Bell favoured with a piano duet. Mrs. Esther Wright gave a message on "Christmas Customs." Mrs. Earl Campbell installed the following slate of officers: president, Mrs. H. Hyde; vice-president, Mrs. Esther Wright; secretary, Mrs. Rochus Faber; ass't secretary, Mrs. Bert Thompson; treasurer, Mrs. Perc Campbell; Glad Tidings secretary, Mrs. P. Campbell; friendship, service and literature, Mrs. Earl Campbell; supply secretary, Mrs. Edith Bell; associate membership, Mrs. Edgar Munn; Queensway representative, Mrs. Rochus Faber; cradle roll, Mrs. C. Volland; stamp collector, Mrs. R. Schwalm; pianist, Mrs. Malcom Dougall. The. 1979 programs were, discussed, aid •Mrs. Hyde closed the meeting with a poem "Bright Christmas" and the Lord's Prayer. The January meeting will be held Jan. 8, 1979. Mrs. C. Volland presided for the Ladies' Aid Meeting which followed. Items of business were discussed and a delicious lunch and a social hour was en- joyed. Social notes Mrs. M. Glanville returned home following several weeks in Victoria Hospital, London where she underwent treat- ment. A "Christmas Pageant" will be presented by the Sunday School members in Hensall United Church on December 17th at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Jack Consitt who recently underwent surgery in University Hospital, London returned to her home last week. Mr. and Mrs. Austin Wheeler of Detroit visited this week with the latter's aunt, Mrs. Edgar Munn. CPT hold Euchre The CPT committee of the I.0 O F and Rebekah Lodges held a Euchre party on Friday evening with seven tables playing. The winners were as follows lone hands, Mrs. Schwartz, Exeter; ladies' high, Mrs. Freida Boa; gent's high, Garnet Hicks, Exeter; ladies' consolation, Mrs. Alex McBeath; gent's con- solation, Cecil Pepper. Lucky ticket winners on a draw were Mrs. Mary Broadfoot and Perc Campbell. Mr. Eric Mansfield directed the events and announced the next Euchre will be held on Jan. 1979. Presbyterian news Rev. A. Young of Goderich conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday and his message was "God's Gift" Mrs. Robert Taylor presided at the organ. Miss Beatrice Thompson and Mr. Ron Fleming ac- companying on their guitars sang "Go Tell It on The Mountain." The induction service for the Rev. Kenneth Gordon Knight, who has been called to the charges of Carmel, Cromarty, and Caven church, will be in Caven Church, Exeter on Thursday December 14 at 8 pm. The service next Sunday December 17th Rev. Knight will be in charge of the service at the usual time 10:15 am. Kinettes entertain The Hensall Kinettes entertained the children of the district at the public school on Saturday afternoon when members from South Huron High School, Exeter presented two plays which were much enjoyed. Santa Claus arrived and passed out treats. Open house at fire hall A large number at- tended the "Open House" at the new Fire Hall on Saturday, afternoon from 2 pm to 5 pm. The Hay, Hensall, and Tuc1 er- smith firemen were in attendance. The building is a very fine structure and is one of the most updated halls in the District. Coffee and doughnuts were served. Presentation A number of friends and relatives enjoyed an evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sangster in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett, who moved from their farm in Hay Township and have taken up Morning Glories meet Getting the Christmas spirit was easy for the Morning Glories UCW unit of Wesley -Willis church when they. met November 29. Beula Keyes and Pat Holland, telephone. The 'highlight of the evening was a play, "The Innkeepers of Bethlehem", presented by Manno and Lucile Shatto. Mr. Manno is a retired United Church minister. He and his wife have travelled all over Ontario and much. of Ohio and Texas presenting religious dramas. Everyone present for this night's production will always think of the kindly innkeepers, "Mary and Jo", when they hear the words, "No room in the inn!" The ,Hensall curling club held a most suc- cessful jitney with both the 1 pm and 3 pm draw being filled. Doug Shirray was Master of Ceremonies assisted by the executive. Following the presentation of prizes a "Pot -Luck" supper was enjoyed by all. UCW exchange gifts The Chiselhurst UCW met on Tuesday af- ternoon_ with the president, Mrs. Jack Brintnell presiding and opened the meeting with Christmas Poems. The roll call was answered by "your favourite hymn". Mrs. Brintnell gave a report of the Prebyterial in W.ingharn which was attended by Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Brintnell. Rev. T.G. Husser was the guest speaker and the theme of his message was "Give of ourselves rather than money gifts". Mrs. Brintnell thanked Rev. Husser and all who helped her in any way during the past year. The members invited a guest to the meeting. Following the benediction all sang "Sing of the Joy of Christmas Time" and exchanged gifts with their secret pals. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Harold Parker, Mrs. Thos. Brintnell, Mrs. Earla Coleman and Mrs. Jack Brintnell.
