In Canada the ine- giiality is not so Hutch marked. We have no-eXtremely rich leen--nor do we want any --and comparatively few poor. Let the working men note one significant fact. All those who are now struggling. for commercial union are mien who are al- ready rich, but who wish to become richer. Every other orchard in the country should be crit clown, and these ;hi useless trees supinlanted by good sell- ing varieties. There has been a wonder• fol expansion of our apple trade with the mother country of late, and only certain varieties take the market and are suited the public taste. And. 'this is what our fanners should try to meet by putting on to the market the fruit that has the best tale and commands the highest price. This export apple trade is worth looking --After, and of receiving a greater amount of•attention than it does at present. The . Colonial Exhibition 'last year opened the eyes of the world to the superiority of our fruit, and apple dealers at the present time in Liverpool and T,ondon are ready to contract fur large 'shipinents of our winter fruit. As far as profit is concerned no crop on the farm pays equal to the same ground planted with orchard. In- • . deed in an average y e atlfivee cisofChoice apple trees would out -balance all the grain crops on the farm. But there re- quires more work, a greater application of horticultural knowledge, better varie- ties of apples and more systematic man- agement. The farmer who judiciously varies his crops and products, so they cannot all fall at once, stands on sure foundation and is certain to draw profit from some source --and there is no better investment than a well selected apple orchard.
