(News -Record photo) 11 clubs at 4-H night Eleven homemaking 'clubs filled the Central Huron Secondary School auditorium last Friday night for their final demonstration of what they learned in the club, Essential Edibles. Along with displaying their record books and samples oV what they learned to prepare, each girl had some part to play in a demonstration skit or exhibit, put on for the audience and for the judgement of the home economist, Bea McClenaghan. The presentations of skits, exhibits and demonstrations included: Goderich II, demon- stration - Do's and Don'ts - of Measuring; Clinton I, exhibit - Cooking Tools and Techniques, by Lorrie Mann and Cheryl Armstrong; Holmesville I, skit - Lunch with Enthusiasm; Taylor's Corners, exhibit - Saturday Night Supper, by Marjorie de Boer; Varna, skit - Gee, Your Lunch - .Looks . Terrific; Holmesville >iI, exhibit Right on Party Food, by Darlene Smith and Gerda Brand; McKillop II, skit - We're Here, We're Hungry; Clinton III, exhibit - Passport to Good Health, by Connie Evans and Julie Proctor; Clinton II, skit - Four Score Breakfast; Bayfield I, skit - Dinner You Can Make On Your Own; Goderich I, skit - Good Food For -Healthy Inner Space. Along with the presentations a number of special awards were given. Connie Evans, Clinton III; Joan Beierling, Varna; Susan Jamieson, McKillop II each received a special award, County Honors for completing six homemaking projects, For the completion of 12 projects, Provincial Honors were given to: Julie Taylor, Clinton I; Lori Saundercock, Clinton III; Sharon Thompson, McKillop II; Mary Jean Bettles, Holmesville I; Francine Visser, McKillop I I . The Canadian Council on 4-H clubs leadership awards were given to Mrs. Robert Saundercock and Mrs. L. Lodges, both of Clinton for the five years each lady has dedicated to 4-H training. With the completion of the fall project, Essential Edibles, the spring club, Accessories - The Final Touch will soon be getting underway. This club will in- vestigate accessores, what to wear, when to wear them how to coordinate them and what accessories tell others about us. As well, each girl will have a chance to sew some accessories for themselves, using a pattern of their own choice. More information on this club and other 4-1-1 projects can be obtained by telephoning the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food Office in Clinton at 482- 3428. Council committees formed With a new term starting and new positions taken, the Clinton council formed the various committees at the meeting on Monday night. Council will be divided into two main com- mittees. Reeve Royce Macaulay will head one group, while Deputy Reeve Ernie Brown will be in charge of the other. Under Reeve Macaulay's group will be: police committee, Royce Macaulay; by- laws, Chester Archibald; protection to persons and property, Frank Van Altena; finance*, Roy, Wheeler; .sp.ecial com- mittee, Harold Lobb. Under the No. 2 com- mittee will be: sanitation and waste, Rosemary Armstrong; industrial committee, Joe Atkin- son; public works, Ernie Brown; general gover- nment, Ron McKay., As well, council members were appointed to special bodies and committees. These were: industrial board, Joe Atkinson and Roy Wheeler; hospital board, Royce Macaulay; cemetery bord, Ernie Brown and Chester Archibald; recreation ,committee, Ron McKay News from Va rna • By Mary Chessell Franklin Roth, owner of the Varna Feed Mill, held a beef feeders meeting on Wednesday, December 13 for area beef farmers. Following a dinner, w-hich was served by the Varna Church Women, they gathered at the township hall to hear lectures by Shur -Gain feed nutritionists and animal health specialists. ' An open discussion followed the speeches. There was a good at- tendance, and the beef men found it informative and interesting. Mrs. Harvey Hayter has been .confined to hospital in Clinton since last Thursday night. We hope she will soon be well enough to return home. •: ?i :• tirri•' S r. There were 29 family members present at the dinner, which was held in the ' Community Hall at Russeldale where her daughter lives. Mrs. Sturgeon wishes the citizens of Bayfield a blessed Christmas, ldve and good will and "may the meaning of Christmas dwell in your hearts always". Mrs. Dorothy Weston has returned to her Clan Gregor apartment from a trip to Florida. Mr. Leroy • Poth is expected home this week after a brief stay in Clinton Hospital, His friends will be glad to hear of his return. Mr. and Mrs. Rae Fraser were in Toledo over the weekend for the Golden Wedding Anniversary of a relative. I00 kids see Puppet show at library On Saturday, December 2nd, the Huron County Public Library puppet show visited Bayfield. Over 100 children were present to see "Christmas at Creepy Castle". Theresa Wilson and Marion Doucette told the story of the old witch Ladies' auxiliary Nineteen members of the Auxiliary were present at the meeting at the United Church on December 2nd. Christ- mas parties will be held on Saturday, December 16th for some of the scouting groups. The mothers will help in the groups where their children are members. Joyce Chilton was appointed the new food convener. The next regular meeting will be held on Saturday, February 3rd when plans will be made for a dessert and card party - a money raising event to be held on Tuesday, February 13th at 2 p.m. For dessert, auxiliary members were treated to a Yule Log with tea and coffee. who lived in the Castle, and her friend, Bah Humbug and apparently held the children spellbound. A coloring contest was held at the library during book week which, in our library was extended for one week. Children were divided into three groups for the contest and Vina Parker was the judge. Prizes were awarded to Mark Johnston, Angela Dunn and Christine Johnston. "Open House' will be held at the Library the week before Christmas, beginning on Tuesday morning the 19th and again during - library hours on Wednesday and Saturday. Drop in for a cup of c' ffee. Last Saturday I went into the ehureh hac ement on an errand.
