Clinton News-Record, 1978-12-14, Page 5Goderich Twp. council folds first meeting Goderich Township Council met on December 4 with Reeve G. Stirling, Deputy -Reeve G. Wright and councillors J. Reder, W. Mcllwain and C. Sturdy subscribing to declarations. The Reveend Allan Thomas of Bayfield conducted a short devotionalperiod followed by short speeches from those present. Bylaw number 23, a bylaw setting the salaries of various officials, was filled in, given three readings and passed by council. Bylaw number 24, a bylaw appointing various officials, was given three readings and passed by council. Reeve Stirling agreed to investigate the cost of purchasing suitable brief cases for council members. A motion was passed that _ Reeve. Stirling and H. $. Whitely be authorized as township signing authorities. Nick Hill was present at the council meeting to discuss S.A.M. and the Minister's conditions for approval. Later in the meeting, it was moved by council that, "The township is prepared to accept a cash settlement of $8,000 being the five percent value of the land." Elmer Squires was also at the meeting to request rezoning of part lot 39, concession 3 to permit the erection of a residence. Council deferred action until the new councillors can acquaint themselves with the Official Plan. The drain loans were requested by Harry Torrance for lot 23, concession 5 ($1,825) and by Ken Holmes for lots 17 and 18, concession 8 ($8,449). Both these requests were approved by council. Building permits were issued to Frank Yeo to demolish a garage; to K. Van den Heuvel foriv hog' barn; and to M. H. Worsfold for a porch. 'A building permit requested by Frank Strickland for a house was referred,to the Building Inspetor for site position. A petition was received from a number of residents in the area of Black's Point protesting the, elimination of the road sign "Black's Point Road". Council in- structed the clerk to investigate the possibility of a sign having both "Township Park" and also Black's Point Road" on it.
