Resource Centre news
We will be offering
babysitting services and
taxi service free to any
resident of Vanastra who
wishes to vote on
November 13. Anyone
wishing a ride to the
polling booth, or would
like someone to watch
their children for a short
time that day, please call
482-7972.
There will be a meeting
on November 9 at 7:00
p.m. at the Resource
Centre for all groups
interested in the
Vanastra Christmas
Bazaar.
The Bazaar will be held
'Saturday, December 2
1978 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
at the Vanastra
Recreation Centre.
Craft Club started into
full swing last Wed-
nesday with the ladies
beginning work on a quilt
which will be raffled off
at the December 2
Christmas Bazaar. There
is no cost for the program
and proceeds from the
quilt will go to cover cost
of the materials, and other
projects for the future.
Crocheting and a new
form,of ceramics will
also e offered if enough
interest is generated.
Craft Club meets every
Wednesday afternoon
from 1:30 - 3:30 at the
Sharon's
recipe corner
Smooth wrinkled yarn
for reuse by shaping a
coat hanger into a square
and winding the yarn
around it. Support it over
a pot of steaming water
for two minutes.
Store: balls of wool in a
' box..Pull a strand of yarn
from each ball and tape
thein to the side of the
box. That way you'll
know at a glance what
colours you have on hand.
After finishing a
needlepoint project,
fasten extra strificds--bf'
the wool to the back. They
may come in . handy for
future repairs.
Store knitting needles
in an empty aluminum -
foil box.
Knit while you listen to
music. You'll un-
consciously knit to the
rhythm and your finished
piece will be very even.
Sweet and
sour sauce
(for chicken or ribs)
110 -oz. can tomato soup
1 cup white sugar
34 cup vinegar
1 small onion
2 or 3 celery stalks
sweet pickle cucumbers
Chop up onion and
celery. Chop up
cucumbers to equal the
amount of onion and
celery. Mix in bowl with
soup, sugar and vinegar.
Pour over chicken or
ribs. Cook covered at 350
degrees and turn until
tender, or cook un-
covered at same tem-
perature for 1 hour.
(Note: li decreased sugar
to 1/2 cup; used dill
pickles instead of
cucumbers; added
mushrooms, and poured
over pork chops.)

1 large pkg. coloured
marshmallows
1 can crushed pineapple
(19 oz.)
combine and let sit in
fridge overnight
add 1/2 cup chopped
walnuts
1/2 cup chopped
marashino cherries (red
and, gt'een)
• Mix pream Whip as
dirented and add to
above.

Centre Teen Club met on
Friday evening at 7:00.
Twelve members were
present for a short
meeting and then bowling
at Clinton Crown Lanes.

from 7 - 10 p.m. when the
group will start work on
their candle and candle
holder projects for the
Saturday, December 2
Christmas Bazaar being
held from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
at the Vanastra
Recreation Centre.
This week eighteen
"Mustangs" met at the
Resource Centre with six
new members joining up.
The mini -teens continued
work on their plaster cast
figures and then played
dodgeball and keep -
away.
After that everyone
went outside for some
hide 'n seek and a game
of red rover. The mini -
teens will be meeting on
Wednesdays from 4 - 5
p.m. from now on star-
ting on Wed. Nov. 8 1978.
Nine Calorie Counters
met at the Vanastra
Resource Centre at 7:30
on Monday night. This
week a prize of coffee
mugs was awarded to
Sharon Jerome who had
the greatest weight loss
for the month.
The ladies rounded out
the evening with a penny
sale. Calorie Counters is
cancelled next Mofiday
due to the election, but
anyone wishing to weigh-
in may do so anytime at
the Resource Centre.
Jamie Rogers of R.R. 5, Goderich won two awards
at the 4-11 achieventent night last Friday including
the Jack Riddell award for top sheep showman, and
the Canadian Co -Operative Wool Growers award.

Nursery school
On Tuesday October 31,
Vanastra Nursery School
celebrated Hallowe'en
with a terrific dress up.
There were six prizes
awarded for junior and
seniors in the categories
Brownie activities
The Brownies enjoyed
a Hallowe'en Party on
Monday, Oct. 31. The
party was put on by the
Guides. They provided a
haunted house, games,
cookies, and treats.
Thresa Schneck won a
cash prize as the best
dressed Brownie. The
Brownies w,ish to express
their thanks • to all the
guides.
On Sunday, October 29,
the Brownies went on a
hayride and nature walk
at- - Mr, Robert
MacLachlan's • farm at
R.R. 3, Kippen. Mrs.
MacLachlan provided
juice, do -nuts, pears, and
candy which the girls
enjoyed.
To show their ap-
preciation the Brownies
wrote thank -you notes
and brought a small
plant. Three Brownies,
Tina Jeffrey, Joann
Bunard and Katherine
Gohwilec presented the
gifts.
The Brownies are now
planning 'for" the bazaar
and Christmas Concert.

That at Hallowe'en we
were visited by several
special guests. Ernie and
Bert from Sesame Street

He must have been three

There has been no
damage done to the
school so far this year.

On Tuesday afternoon
we had a costume con-
test. Wewere all
delighted with the variety
of homemade costumes
that arrived that af-
ternoon. The judges of the
contest had a very dif-
ficult job to do. The
judges were Mrs.
Dorothy Williams, Mrs.
June Johns and a
mysterious clown who
came from Conestoga
College. They did a fine
job. All the children
really deserved a prize!
