Readers will notice elsewhere in this paper there is an act for a new store bearing the namesake of this column. In all fairness to both the new establishment and this paper we should point out that there is no connection whatsoever between the two names. The store known as Town Talk which opens this week has only the eight letters in common and neither the News -Record nor the writer are af- filiated in any way. +++ Never underestimate your fire fighters in this town - they are a dedicated lot. Four of them are finding out that there is still more to learn, even after many years of manning the hoses. Doug Cartwright, Craig Cox, Dennis Fleischauer wand Fred Lobb are in the middle of a thirteen week - 40 hour course at the Fire Fighters' School in Exeter. The men go every Monday night, they started last September 11 along with 27 other area fire fighters. + ++ Congratulations to Oda and Karl Skov of Raglan Street who recently celebrated their 40th anniversary. We have been asked to pass on the phone number at which she may be contacted, 482-3126. + ++ To the residents of the BlueWater Centre for the Developmentally Han- dicapped the death last week of Agnes Moon was a� personal lops as well as the loss of an instructress in crafts, cooking and personal expression. She created this program especially for her pupils. For most of us Agnes Moon was an artist whose canvasses hang in many homes, but for the men and women of the Centre on Highway 21 near Goderich where she in- structed. - Agnes Moon was the embodiment of a warm, out -going person who touched their lives. The sympathy of our community goes out to those who were close to Agnes. + ++ The Town and Country Homemakers operating as a unit of the County of Huron Home Care Program will be having an ad in next week's paper for their rummage sale to be held in Wesley - Willis Church, Clinton on Saturday, November 18. Anyone wishing to donate articles may contact Mrs. Winona Crozier at 527, 1216. Proceeds of the sale will help defray some of the expense for those who may need homemaking care. +++ Huronic Rebekah Lodge, Clinton held a successful dessert euchre and bake sale on Wed- nesday, November 1 in the Lodge Hall. Ladies from Exeter, Goderich and Clinton enjoyed the desseirts, after which several games of euchre were played. Mrs. Blanche Johns was the winner and Mrs. Josie Cunningham won the low prize. Mrs. Jean Hen- derson won the prize for lone hands. Lucky chair winner was Mrs. Berva Cartwright and door prize went to Mrs. Edna Wheeler. Sorority plan bazaar The first November meeting of Clinton Zeta Omegia was held at the home' of Mary Marsh on Wednesday, November 1. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Ways and Means Chairman, Rose, collected quilt draw tickets. She had the quilt with her to show the members. It was made by the Senior Citizens and certainly is a beauty. Tickets can be purchased from any Sorority members. Plans were discussed for the upcoming Christmas Bazaar. It is to be held at the Town Hall on Saturday, December 2. Everyone is welcome, There will be lots of homemade crafts suitable for Christmas giving as well as home baking. President, Mary Marsh, reported that an Area Council was formed on October 19, 197g. The purpose of this council is to enable the various chapters to keep in touch with each other. The business meeting was followed with a talk by guest speaker, Peggy Menzies. She spoke on the subject, Learning to Earn". This was well appreciated, with a good response by all. The meeting was concluded with lunch and a social time. The Wingham Kinsmen 'have agreed to provide financial backing of up to $3,500 for the Towne Players to enable the group to go ahead with its production of a special centennial play. The Wingham Advance -Times reported that theatre had little success trying to get backing from the town centennial committee and said the project would have to be can- celled if a backer couldn't • be found. The biggest cost will include the $1,500 fee for the playwright plus about $250 In travelling ex- penses for him to attend 40 rehearsals. Adver- tising, costumes, programs and a $100 honorarium for the director are also included in the expenses. Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology announces the appointment of Paul J. Bateman to the faculty of Haileybury School of Mines, Haileybury, Ontario.Born in Christchurch, Hants, England, Mr. Bateman moved to Canada with his family and attended Clinton Public School and Central Huron Secondary School. He graduated from- University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Geological Engineering, later taking a post graduate course in geology at University of Saskatchewan. Mr. Bateman's in- dustrial experience includes summer experience at Inco, Sudbury; Cominco (Cornwallis Island, N.W.T.); and Mobil Oil (N.W.T.) He has held positions with Amax Explorations as Project Geologist in Thompson Manitoba and the Blind River -Soo areas of Northern Ontario. Later he became Field Geologist for Hollinger Mines at Timmins. He is a Fellow of the Geological Association of Canada as well as membership in Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Professional Engineers of Ontario and the Prospectors and Developers Association. (photo by Wilma Oke) _REPAIR ELECTRIC ACCOUNTING Ground Beef Stew 1 cup sliced onion 1 cup chopped celery 2 tablespoons fat 11/2 pounds ground beef 1 tablespoon flour 11/2 teaspoons salt 1/2 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon caraway seed 1/4 teaspoon pepper 2 tablespoons Wor- cestershire sauce 1 cup beef bouillon 2 cups cubed potatoes 2 cups cubed rutabaga. 2 cups sliced carrots 1/2 cup frozen chopped green pepper 1/2 pint(11/4 cups) dairy cream Chopped parsley Saut9 onion and celery in• fat until onion is transparent., Add beef and brown. Drain off excess fat. Blend in flour and seasonings. Add Worcestershire sauce, bouillon, potatoes, rutabaga and carrots. Cover and simmer until vegetables are tender (about 30 minutes).
