Some one of the staff of would-be od- itors who contribute items to the local print accuse the TIDfES of copying locals week after week. Tho allegation is not only false, but was made with a know- ledge of its being such for the purpose only of getting free advertising. We challenge any one of the staff' to give a single instance of the Txnxas having copied a local; and we will buy the purported editor a new hat. We can prove how- ever that locals which appeared in the TXMEs have been published in the "suck- ling" word for word but not until 3weeks after first appearing. We would be too happy to publish a few of its locals and give credit for the same were they correct or of any account, but when we can turn to the bric-a-brac column of a daily and get the same items we would prefer do- ing so. As our rate for advertising is ten cents per line, we wiil not take notice of such twaddle in future unless the cash accompanies the solicitation. THE EXPLORERS. Enjoyment Intermingled with Hardships. A doeen of young men of sporting pro- clivities, four from Chicago, Messrs. J. and H. Balkwill, F. McDonell and Herb Wright, as well as many Exeterites, betook them- selves to Black Creek on Saturday last for the purpose of engaging in their favorite sport -frogging, The company arriyod at their destination early 111 the afternoon, and after getting the tackle in proper shape com- menced fishing. For a time the frogs leaped with open mouths to grasp the hook baited with red flannel, and many were captured ; but as soon as Herb Wright came along and began pulling the bottom from the water's course, the frogs became indignant and were reluctant to peep above surface. The party walked several miles up and down the creek and endured hardships not to be equalled among the Reeky mountains ; they had sev- eral encounters with giant mosquitoes, some members of the corps faring the worst of the battle. No sooner would they get the mosqui toes overpowered, than something else detri; mental to the pleasure of the sports would The Canada Company reduced the rate of turn up. Amongst the most serious of the rental on -111 new leases with the right of oasualities was the narrow escape from drown - purchase from six to five per cent perannum , ing, of our worthy sport, N. Dyer Hurdou. He had managed to induce a monster frog to grapple the hook, and while endeavoring to land the same, the snag upon which he stood turned slightly and caused N, Dyer to fall backward into about 10 feet of water. His yelps for aid were most frantic, and while they frightened cattle grazing in fields about a mi•e distant they brought many willing hands besides his brother sports, to his assis- tance. It would indeed have been a difficult matter to have determined where he had gone down, had not a few feet of a twenty foot pole which he used towered above the water. He was finally rescued from the water, the usual treatment to half drowned .critters gone through, and then hung up to dry. The work of angling was resumed and continued undisturbed until echoes of "pull me out" were heard, With the utmost e pedience a detachment of the party waS a hand, sorry to notice that Thos. Acheson had gone down with a bucket of frog limbs in hand, He was reached after considerable arriving in Exeter Saturday last much to difficulty, grasped by the head and pulled his sunrise.
