The room was tastefully decorated for the occasion. Cor- sages were pinned on the bride-to-be by Mrs, William Empey Jr, and on her mother, Mrs, Helen Dougherty of Goderich by 'Mrs. Nor- man Wightman. Mrs. Empey welcomed all and a reading, Going To The Wedding, was given by Mrs. Arnold Cook. Mrs. Norman W Wightman and Mrs, William Empey Jr. had contests and Mrs. Empey Jr. had a contest, What Do You Know About Alice? This was won 1Iy Mrs. Martie Lobb. Other winners were Mrs. Harry Arthur and Mrs. Allan Craig. Mrs. Empey Jr. ex-' pressed the best wishes of the neighbours and friends and the gifts were presented by Mary Anne Franken. Alice was assisted in opening her gifts by her mother, Mrs. Helen Dougherty and Mrs. Rurrh Koopmans. Alice thanked everyone for their gifts and a delicious Lunch was served by Mrs. William Empey, Mrs. William Empey Jr. and Mrs. Norman Wightman. WALKERBURN CLUB The Walkerburn Club held their annual picnic on July 20 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hunking. After swim- ming in the .pool, the young folk took,. part in a sports program. Everyone enjoyed, a smorgasbord supper. Plans were made for the August meeting to be held at the home of Mrs. Lloyd McClinchey, Mrs. Leonard Archambault and Mrs. Lloyd McClinchey will be in charge of the program and Mrs. James Schneider and Mrs. Marian Hunking will be in charge of lunch. 4-HNEWS The Little Green Sprouts 441 club held their party at Point Farms Provincial Park on July 31. Everyone enjoyed a dip in the lake and then played volleyball and frisbee. They all enjoyed a lunch of hamburg hot dogs and vegetables from their gardens with a vegetable dip. OBITUARIES Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt attended the funeral of her sister, Mrs. Harry Rindernecht in Detroit last Friday. She passed away suddenly at her home on August 1. She was the former Della May Beadle, the' daughter of the late George Beadle and Elizabeth Robinson and was born May 5, 1892 in Auburn.__ She is survived by her husband Harry; three sons, George of St. Clair Shores, Harry Jr. of Almont, Michigan and Maynard of Detroit; four sisters, Mrs. Jean Pat- terson of Goderich, Mrs. Beverley (Anna) French of St. Clair Shores, Mrs. Thomas (Marian), Haggitt ' of Auburn and Mrs. Clifford (Rita)'' Brown of Goderich; and, four grandchildren. She was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. Ada McIntyre. SOCIAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Keith Sutton of London visited Iast Sunday with Mrs. Albert McFarlane. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Elliott of Toronto visited on the holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Miller, Mrs. Glen Youngblut and daughter Jennifer of Ottawa visited a few days last week with her mother-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Munro. Mrs. Donna Long of Canton, Ohio is visiting Wagner relatives in the district. Over last weekend, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Youngblut, Susan, Bruce and Kristen of Toronto visited with his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Munro. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Davies attended the funeral . of his cousin, Mrs. Gladys McCall at Dorchester last Friday. Goderich Twp. council A tender of $44,510, submitted by Leonard Seeley for construction of a new bridge on lot 20, concession 16 was accepted by Goderich Township Council at its regular meeting recently. Three other tenders ranging from $44,675 to $57,557 were rejected in favour of the Seeley bid and council now awaits approval from the ministry of transportation and communications before the necessary legal agreements can be signed. In other business, council turned down the only tender it received for loading and hauling pit run gravel and for spreading 1,000 yards of crushed gravel. Coun. Jake Reder moved that the tender of Mr. Merner to haul pit run gravel at 91 cents peryard and crushed gravel at $1.35 a yard not be accepted. The motion was seconded by Coun. Joe Fritzley and carried. Council decided to call for tenders again for about 17,000 cubic yards of pit run to be delivered by October 15, and to load and haul 1,000 yards of crushed gravel. Two tile drain loans were approved by council. John Oskam's request for an $8,600 loan for tile drains on lot 15 concession 4 was accepted as was a petition by Robert Norman for a loan of $17,200 to tile lot 31 on the Bayfield Line. Gerald Uniac asked council to reverse its previous recommendation on his severance request. Council requested a pre -designed plan of Mr. Uniac's property for its file records. Council heard two preliminary drain reports on the Yeo -Vander Waal Extension and on the Montgomery Drain and instructed C.P. Corbett to proceed with the final drain report on each of the two drains. Council approved the following building permits: William Dykstra, silo; Joan Char- trand, storage addition; M.P. Wigan, storage addition; M. Elliott, shed demolition; Mr. Elliott, garage; W.T. Gregg, storage; Harold Jantzi, kitchen addition; Gordon Johnston, swimming pool; and Mary Parks, mobile home. The next regular meeting of council is scheduled for August 7 at 8:00 p.m. Huron 4-H rabbit club The third meeting of the Central Huron 441 Rabbit Club was held on July 25 at the home of Leslie Lawson with 18 members present. The meeting opened with the 4-1 pledge and saying if the 4-14 Representative had come to see the project. Mr. Denton Byers, from Toronto, the Junior Agriculturist, was then introduced to everyone. Leader Tom Jorgensen spoke on stocks and selecting which was followed by a quiz which was conducted by George Townsend. August 30 was the date set for Fun Day. Later, all of the members went to the barn to see Les' rabbits. Mr. Kenneth McDougall is a patient in Clinton Public Hospital. He is wished a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ling and David visited last Sunday with Mrs. Myrtle Munro. Mr. and Mrs.' Larry Glasgow of Beamsville visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jonhston. Mr. and Mrs. John MacKay and son of London visited on the with shower weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Mark Arthur and Scott. Mrs. Russel Neal of Mount Forest and Mrs. Tina Ford of Hagersville visited last Tuesday with Mrs. Myrtly Munro. Mrs. Gordon Wall of WWingharn called on friends last week one evening in the village. Mr. and Mrs. James , Towe were guests last Saturday at the wedding of Miss Susan Street in Blyth. The community is sorry to report that Mr. Kenneth Sproul is a patient in Foothills Hospital, Calgary. He is wished a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. William L. Craig returned on Thursday from a trip to Dawson Creek and other British Columbia points. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Craig, Tyler and Peter returned on the weekend from a holiday spent at a, cottage on Lake Huron. Mrs. Don Murch, the former Marian Staples of Sarnia, visited last Sunday with Mr. and - u Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Chamney, Alison and Ryan spent some of their holidays with relatives at Niagara Falls last week.
