born happy, but all of us are
born with the ability to create
happiness. A laugh expresses
the joy of living, and the
person who laughs is a delight
to be with; but more im-
portant, he is enjoying his
own life." Pennsylvania

Did You Know That the
Wingham Public School has
loaned us a trampoline to use.
Everyday now has its ups and
downs. That the Clinton
Public has loaned us some
gymnastic equipment. Mrs.
Smith will be offering the
boys and girls a gymnastic
program as part of our extra
curricular activities. That we
are now able to fly our
Canadian Flag thanks to the
co-operation of Ontario
Hydro. That a volleyball
match was held that involved
parents, pupils and teachers
on Tuesday, April 18.
Everyone had a good time.
That our community sing-
song that was held on Wed-
nesday, April 19 was a real
success. That the Huron
County Health Unit visited
our school on Tuesday, April
25 and presented their dental
program. That we have been
visited by more than a dozen
new Kindergarten pupils over
the past few Wednesdays.
That the Vanastra Public
School staff attended a very
worthwhile Professional
Activity Day on Friday, April
28 at Huron Centennial
School. That the Huron
County Library has loaned
our school almost 200 new
library books. The boys and
girls are certainly putting
these to good use.

Girl guides
For the past three weeks
the Vanastra Guides have
been busy learning how to lay
and follow trails as well as
stalking under the in-
struction of Valerie Lewis
and Constance King. The
weather has been ideal for
outdoor activities and the
girls are taking advantage of
it. This Thursday May 18th,
the Guides will be playing
baseball at the Recreation
Centre diamond beginning at
6:30 p.m. and after the game
some of the girls will be
drawing up plans for the
backyard camp which will be
held on June 9, 10, and 11th.
The Tenderfoot Guides have
been working diligently on
their requirements for
enrollment and we hope to
have them enrolled at our
year end barbecue. Don't
forget the Mother and
Daughter Banquet on May 31
at the Recreation Centre
beginning at 6:30 p.m. Hope
to see you there.

can make just about
anything a dedicated
cook could want, except
more counter space.

At times school can be "the pits". The pupils from the Vanastra Public School showed this
as they have been busy digging long jump pits for track and field day practice.
Vanastra synchronized
swim team plans ballet
Huron County area
residents should be proud of
the fact that the Vanastra
Recreation Centre hosts one
of the few synchronized
swimming clubs in this part
of Ontario. Synchronized
swimming (water ballet)
groups are usually found in
larger urban areas like
London, Chatham and Sarnia.
The Vanastra Club consists
of nine members and coach
Joan Pinder from Seaforth.
The group is divided into two
sections: the senior team and
the beginners. The team
practices on Sunday af-
ternoon; the beginners take
lessons on Wednesday under
the guidance of senior team
member Debbie Bennett.
Although the senior team
has been practicing together
for only a few months, the
girls placed Fourth at a recent
synchro meet in Tillsonburg.
Unfortunately, most of the
senior team will be leaving
the area next year to attend
college or university. leaving
a gap in the team. the club is
actively seeking new
members - anyone who is.at a
Junior Red Cross level or
above, is welcome to join.
The Vanastra Synchronized
Swimming Club will be
putting on a water show in the
pool at the Vanastra
Recreation Centre, Sunday
evening, May 28 at 8 p.m. The
evening's display will include
team routines, duets, solos
and demonstrations of in-
dividual skills. The girls have
been rehearsing this show for
several weeks and hope that
it will be well attended.
Tickets for the show can be
purchased at the Vanastra
Recreation Centre.
The money being raised
will be used to buy stereo
equipment for the Vanastra
Recreation Centre. The team
has been practicing for the
water show and for its other
swim meets, using borrowed
sound equipment (or none at
all). In order for a synchro
club to improve, it must have
its own stereo system. The
new stereo at Vanastra will
be available for use by other
groups in the Recreation
Centre as well.
If you are interested in
seeing the show, joining the
club or making a donation,
call Joan Pinder, Seaforth
527-1851 or Elizabeth
Thompson Clinton 482-9225.

to begin a program in
Vanastra. Anyone interested
in finding out more in-
formation call 482-7972 or join
us this Thursday morning at
10 a.m. Thursday,, May 25,

Family Budget, your pur-
chasing power, mortgages
and investing your money. He
will also talk on the average
persons options when a credit
problem arises. So all in-
terested people are en-
couraged to attend this
morning session. Money
management is a topic we are
all interested in so we hope it
will be a valuable workshop.
_On May 24 at 7:30 p.m. Mr.
Al Sinclair will visit and meet
with the interested citizens of
Vanastra. He will be ready to
discuss developing leadership
training programs, activity
skill workshops,
organizational and com-
munity development training
programs with and for the
citizens of Vanastra. This
should be an interesting
meeting for all residents of
Vanastra so everyone plan to
attend. It is slated for the
evening so working men and
women can attend.
