Clinton News-Record, 1978-04-13, Page 5• • • Londesboro news Cubs hold by Dora Shobbrook The church was filled on Sunday morning when the 1st Londesboro Cub and Scout Groups held their annual church parade. Leading the parade were flagbearers, Cub Ronald Vincent and Cub Todd Hoggart and the different packs and troups were led by leaders David Lear, Wayne Hulley, Norman Cartwright and Greg Andrews. for the Cubs and Jim Jamieson. Tom Pollard and Laura Popp for the Scouts. Absent were Cub leaders Michael Overholt and David Armstrong, Scout leaders Bryan McClure and Bob Thompson. Ushers were Cubs Robbie Radford and Russell Nesbitt, and Scouts Warren Hulley and Bradley Lyon. Rev. McDonalds theme was "our hands" and his sermon topic was "these hands of ours" using as his text "whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might". He stressed that our hands can be used for good or for evil. He challenged the Cubs and Scouts to use them for good for other people, to do a good turn for someone everyday. The scripture was various reading of how Jesus used his hands for the good of mankind. During the service, Cub John Cartwright was presented with his religion and life badge, one of the higher awards given to a Cub. John recited a number of scriptural assignments given to him. Rev. McDonald, the Cubmaster, presented the badge to John. Greeters at the service were Nick Whyte and Bert Shobbrook and the choir anthem was the very beautiful "The Picture of Jesus" with Mrs. Allen Shaddick choir leader and Mrs. Glenn McGregor organist. Rev. McDonald's children's story was "stop signs". Junior congregation teachers were Barbara Carter and Mrs. Bob Peel_ The flowers on the memoriam stand were placed by Mr. and Mrs. Murray Adams in loving memory of Anns mother, Mrs. Wm. Walsh, Kincardine. UCW general meeting The UCW general meeting was held on Monday April 3 in the Sunday School rooms when president Helen Lawson welcomed all, opened with the reading "its growing." Minutes were read by secretary Nona Pipe. Correspondence included thank-yous from Mildred McNall, Tom and Margaret Whyte, Lloyd Pipe and Stephen Duizer;, invitations from Auburn, Blyth and Walton UCW's Easter Thankoffering on April 9th; joint service of Wesley -Willis and Ontario Street United Churches at Ontario Street Church, Sunday April 30th at 8 p.m.; to Hospital Day on May 10th 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Clinton Public Hospital; a Christmas card and two letters from Foster Child in Hong Kong. It was moved to write her a letter and send $20 fora gift. . The treasurers report was read by Margaret Good and it was moved to donate $50 to Don and Kathy Reuger; fire victims. Registration forms Nomination Three area residents will seek the nomination for the Liberal candidacy in the federal riding of Huron -Bruce at the upcoming annual meeting The meeting, at Huron Central Secondary School in Clinton at 8:15 p.m. on Apr. 19, will have Hugh Faulkner, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, as guest speaker. Those seeking the Liberal nomination in Huron -Bruce are Graeme Craig, Walton; , Grant Chisholm, Lucknow 40 and Jean Adams, Goderich. Jean Adams, a widow, is a long-time member of the Liberal party. She is past executive vice-president of the provincial Liberals, and has been a director in the federal Liberal party. Grant Chisholm operates his own oil and home fuel business in Lucknow. He has been a member of the Lions Club for 10 years, has coached minor hockey and ball teams. and is a past district governor for the Lions Club. He is married with three boys and six girls. Graeme Craig of Walton operates and owns a farm in McKillop Township. He is a director of the Huron Cat- tleman's Association. for Westminister College May 26 to 28 and for Alma College August 20 to 23 were received.. It was moved to donate $25 to Alma College. London.. Helen Lee reported for manse committee. the 100 anniversary of the manse to be held in June. Anyone wishing to donate bulbs or shrubs to the manse com- mittee would be appreciated. The next meeting will be June 5th. WI card party There were nine tables in play at WI card party on Friday night_ Winners were: ladies' high, Alice Buchanan; lone hands, Margaret Good; low, Laurel Duizer; men's high, Pearl Curnmings (playing as a man) ; lone hands., Claire Vincent; low, Ruth Vincent (playing as a man) ; lucky cup, Ted Fothergill. There will be another on April 21st in charge will be Marg Anderson, Isabel Colson and Tri Duizer. Cubs and Scouts meet The Cub and Scout groups held a joint meeting in the school on Tuesday PuPdng After individual opening exercises the Cubmaster introduced Mrs_ Jon Radford, who spoke to the groups on water safety. Following the well presented study by Mrs_ Radford, which captured the attention of all Cubs and Scouts, a film on water safety was shown_ The Blue Pack, under leadership of David Lear, conducted the opening and closing for the cub pack. All Cubs and Scouts were reminded of the father -son banquet on April 18th, and that the church service would be held on Sunday. Next week would be the deadline for passing of any badges that would be presented at the father -son banquet_ Londesboro I 4-H The eighth meeting of Londesboro I 4-H was held at the home of Mary Buffanga, when the home economist and her friend came to visit_ A game was played and discussion held on baby sitting. Londesboro III 4-H On Monday April 3rd, Quazy ` Quilters met at the home of Marjorie Duizer for meeting 6_ Safety in the hoarse and achievement Day were discussed. On Wednesday April 5, the group visited the pottery store in Blyth, where Mr. Ward showed the girls how pottery was made and how it was fired. PersonaLs Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs_ Murray Adams on the death of her mother Mrs. William Walsh, Kin- cardine. Mr. Norman Alexander was admitted to hospital in Sault Ste_ Marie. while they were visiting their daughter Mr. and Mrs. Don Cousineau and family. Mrs. Laura Saundercock was admitted to Clinton Public Hospital on Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Jim McEwing returned home on Monday April 3rd after spending six weeks at Dade City and Winter Haven, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Radford also returned home on Monday from spending winter months at Palm Beach, Florida. WI executive members Dora Shobbrook, Marjorie Duizer, Marjorie Anderson and Margaret Taylor at- tended Huron West meeting at Dungannon on Monday April 3rd. Mr. and Mrs. Dave McLeod, Mitchell attended church here on Sunday and visited with her sister Mrs. Olive Penfound and Elgin. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dolmage and Angela were Sunday visitors with her aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Good.. Bob and Vi Burns had a very surprised visit from her old public school friends on the weekend, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Addison from Silver - water, Manitoulin Island. They corresponed regularity, but had not seen each other for 46 years. Visiting on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cart- wright, John and Claude was her mother, Mrs. Mae Rinn 61 Belgrave and all attended church where John received his religion and life badge from Cubmaster Rev. McDonald. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen spent the week with their daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Graham Jackson, Briail. Ken and Sandra at R ldgetown.
