Hensall Rebekahs plan events

Rebekah Lodge meets

meeting of Amber Rebekah
Lodge on Wednesday evening
assisted by the RSVG Mrs.
Aldeen Volland.
It was announced the CPT
Committee are holding a
euchre in the local hall on
March 9. The IOQF are
sponsoring a dance in the
Zurich arena March 4. Mrs'.
Volland reported for the
visiting committee and
several "Thank You" notes
were received by the
secretary, Mrs. Leona Parke.
It was announced the "Speak
Off" for students for the trip
to the United Nations will be
held in Clinton High School on -
March 3.
A "Penny Sale" will be held
at the March 1 meeting. An
afternoon euchre and bake
sale will be held on March 22.
DDP Mrs. Bertha MacGregor
announced the dates of April
17, 18 and 19 for the visit of
the Assembly President Mrs.
Jean Bolton in Huron
District No. 23. Mrs. Aldeen
Volland reported for the
Ladies of the Presbyterian
Church who will cater to the
banquet on April 19.
Following the meeting Mrs.
Hazel Corbett directed
euchre with Mrs. Ruth Bell
and Mrs. Vira Lemnlon prize
winners. Refreshments were
served by the social Com-
mittee and thanks was ex-
tended by Mrs. Maggie
Camnhe N.G.
Seniors meet
The February meeting of
the Three Links senior
citizens was held on Tuesday
evening in the local hall
which was tastefully
decorated for Valentine's
Day. The president, Mrs.
Rosa Harris presided.
Mrs. Bertha MacGregor
and Mr. Bert Horton had
agreed to accept the orr►ces of
first and second vice-
presidents
Mrs. Glenn Bell !bade a
motion to send the Keppen
East Women's Institute a
letter of appreciation and
token for the sumptuous
dinner they served- the
seniors. Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Rogerson and Mrs. Earl
Kinsman were on the en-
tertainment committee.
Progressive euchre was
played with the following
prize winners: ladies' high,
Mrs. Walker Carlisle; ladies'
consolation, Mrs. Bert
Horton ; gent's high,
R.Harris; consolation, Bert
Horton; lone hands, Mrs.
Glenn Bell; lucky chair, Mrs.
C. Moir.
Lunch was served the
social committee being Mrs.
C. Moir, Mrs. E. Munn and
Mrs. Elizabeth Riley.

Public Speaking
The p'ublic speaking contest
sponsored by the Canadian
Branch of the Legion held in
the local hall on Thursday
evening was largely at-
tended. Co -Chairman Mr.
Charles Cooper was assisted
by Rev. Blackwell. The
Judges were Mr. Brooks,
South Huron District High
School; Mrs. Jane Brown
Exeter Public School; Mr.
Adrenne Brand, Huron
Centennial School.
Contestants were from St.
Marie School. St. Joseph; St.

Summer vacation?
Except for a few students, the normally crowded halls of
Central Huron Secondary School are empty this week, as all
classes have been cancelled because of a strike by the
teachers. No end is in sight to the strike, which is in its fifth
day, as no meetings are scheduled between the two sides.

Smorgasbord enjoyed at Auburn's Family Night
FAMILY NIGHT
Family Night sponsored by
the United Church Women of
Knox United Church was held
in the Sunday School room of
the church last Friday
evening. .At 7 p.m. the
Reverend Earl St. Jean
welcomed everyone and said
Grace.
Following this, ap-
proximately 70 persons,
adults and children, enjoyed
a delicious smorgosbord
dinner.
After the tables were
removed, all enjoyed en-
tertainment which conisted of
a lively sing -song led by Mrs.
Greg Park with Mrs. Norman
Wightman as pianist. Miss
Marilyn Wightman played a
piano solo. Mrs. Jack Arm-
strong conducted some in-
teresting games for young
and old.
Following the games,
crokinole and scrabble were
played. Rev. St. Jean showed
a film to the children.
LIONS CLUB
The Auburn and District
Lions Club held their Ladies
Night last Wednesday
evening in the Auburn
Community Memorial Hall
with the ladies of Unit I of the
United Church Women
catering.
The president, Lion Fred
Lawrence was in charge and
Lion Bob Worsell acting
secretary read the minutes.
Lion James Schneider was ill,
so no financial statement was
available but the President
announced that there was a
small profit from the
Valentine's dance.
Members were reminded
about the Poker Rally
February 26 and eight
members were asked to man
check points along with
others who will be helping
with the check-in and lunch.
Charter Night pictures and
vests had arrived and were
picked up after the meeting.
The guest speaker of the
evening was Past District
Governor Lion Grant
Chisholm of Lucknow. Guests
were also present from Blyth,
Howick and Lucknow Lions
Clubs. Mr. Chisholm's topic
related to past and present
experiences in Lions work.
He told about future plans for
his club and information on
various committees
especially Leos and
Lionesses.
Lion Grant Chisholm was
introduced by Lion Ken Scott
and thanked by Lion Bill
Robertson and presented with
a gift. -
Lion Keith Richmond,
president of the Blyth Club,
challenged the Auburn Club
to a broomball or hockey
game in the near future. He
gave details of a proposed bus
'trip to Wheeling West
Virginia possibly in March.
He announced that the
Londesboro and Auburn
Clubs would be joining Blyth
sponsoring a dance in Blyth
with proceeds going to the
Leader Dog School: Lion
Keith had earlier presented
the Auburn members with
two rabbits to be passed to
another club.
The highlight of the evening
was the presentation of the
Charter for the Auburn and
District 'Lions Clubby Zone
Chairman Lion Don Coughlin
of the Howick Lions Club to
Lion President Fred
Lawrence.
Lion Bob Ketchabaw was
presented with a gift by Lion
Fred as he has been tran-
sferred to another bank. He
was given the wish of all the
members that all goes well in
his new location. Bob has
been a charter member and
secretary of the Auburn and
District Lions Club.

Mr. Ivan Parenti of
Hayward, California visited a
couple of days last week with
his sister, Mrs. George
Hebert, Mr. Hebert, Monica
Carla and Claudia.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Weston
of Toronto visited on the
weekend with her mother,
Mrs. Mary Rollinson and
brother, Mr. Murray
Rollinson.
Mr. Donald Young attended
the Ontario Ploughman
Association meeting in
Toronto last Monday. He was
joined by his wife Marie on
Tuesday and they were part
of the Huron County
Delegation. It was the largest
delegation to ever attend an
annual meeting. Huron
County is hosting the Inter-
national Ploughing Match,

a patient in Clinton Public
Hospital. She is wished a
speedy recovery.

euchre party held every
Tuesday evening in the
Auburn Community
Memorial Hall at 8 p.m.

Lawlor; high lady -Mrs.
Donald Cartwright; low lady -
Mrs. Warner Andrews; high
man -William J. Craig and low
man -Robbie Plunkett.
Fifteen members of the
Auburn Snowmobile Club
went on a tour of Colborne
and Hullett Townships last
Sunday and all had dinner at
the Sandpiper Inn at
Vanastra.
The Coffee Timers met
recently at the Auburn
Community Memorial Hall
and played badminton. Lunch
was served by Mrs. Ross
Dobie.
Mr. Darryl Ball returned
recently to Brantford after a
six week vacation in
Australia and New Zealand.
He visited last week with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Stanley Ball, Miss Brenda
Ball and other members of
his family in the district.

Auburn I, 4-H club met last
week for its second meeting
of the spring project, Focus
on Living, ,atthe home of the
leader, Mrs. John
Hildebrand. !
Kim McDowell presided for
the meeting which was
opened with the 4-11 pledge.
The roll call was answered by
naming one or more quilted
articles you have at home,
whether quilted by machine
or hand and whether they
were pieced or appliqued.

Vickie Rodger and Nancy
Verbeek were named to a
telephone committee.
Mrs. Hildebrand and Mrs.
Donald Cartwright spoke of
quilts and handbags. The

how to make their pin cushion
samples. They made their
cardboard templates and cut
out their materials and
basted ready to quilt.

Unit 2 of the United Church
Women of Knox United
Church met in the Sunday
school room of the church on
Tuesday February 14 at 2
p.m. Mrs. Arnold Cook and
Mrs. Peter Verbeek were in
charge of the meeting.
The theme for the meeting
was Love. Mrs. Verbeek
opened the meeting by,
reading a poem
Mrs. Norman McClinchey al`
pianist. The responsive-
reading was on love. Mrs.
Cook read a poem entitled,
What Love Is.
The offering was received
and dedicated with prayer by
Mrs. Verbeek. Mrs. Cook
read the scripture selection
Mrs: Verbeek closed the
devotional service by reading
a poem
Mrs. Jack Armstrong, Unit
2 leader, presided for the
business which she opened by
reading a poem entitled, ThiS
Day. The minutes of the
January meeting were ap-
proved as read by the
secretary, Mrs. Beth Lan-
sing. The roll call was an-
swered with a verse con-
taining the word love.
Unit 2 is responsible for
visiting during the months
which they do not clean the
church.
Mrs. Oliver Anderson
explained the layette and
children's clothing for the
bale. Articles were given to
the members to be made.
