Clinton to buy new tractor After a lengthy, debate last Wednesday at a special meeting of Clinton Town council, the town will have a new tractor with which to clean sidewalks. The special meeting was called after Mayor Harold Lobb and Public works chairman Ernie Brown learned that the town's newly purchased $1,600 sidewalk blower wouldn't work on the existing sidewalk V -plow tractor. The problem stems from the fact that. ' the current tractor, bought only three years ago, doesn't have a "live" power take off (PTO) and it's impossible to blow snow without moving the tractor ahead. Council decided to buy a new tractor for $14,000, less * NOW PLAYING * UNTIL sr * * SATURDAY, JANUARY 21 4.* * THE ALL-NEW SOUND'OF ilti„uaRNcKenzie" ENGAGEMENT )f)T * * * COMING * * MONDAY, JAN. 23 * TO * SAT., JAN. 28 * "Farmer" * RETURN ENGAGEMENT * * * * * ELM HAVEN MOTOR HOTEL CLINTON This week at By Rene Brochu Last Saturday evening the Legion played host to the Country Singles Club who held a social gathering of single people between the ages of 18 and 80, with the guests travelling from as far away as Owen Sound, Brantford, Kitchener, London and many r other distant places. The Country Companions supplied the music which everyone seemed to enjoy .as the dance floor was crowded shoulder to shoulder most of the time. There was an engagement notice of one of the most attractive ladies as well as birthdays celebrated; soon, wedding bells will again ring for one of the members of the Country Singles Club. As usual the executive, which consists of Irene Okahashi, Betty Cardno, and Vicki Horbaniuk, put on a delicious lunch for the gathering, which terminated the Legion $9,000 for the old one, from Ray Potter Ford Equipment. The new model is the same size as the old one, but features a "live" PTO, more gears, and better hydraulic systemt. The $5,000 extra cost will go on this year's budget, and had finance chairman Roy Wheeler upset. "We can (only) afford it if we can afford to put taxes up. People aren't using the sidewalks anyway." "I said it before and I say it again, I think we have a moral obligation to keep the sidewalks `clean," said 'Councillor Ron McKay. "We just paid $51,000 for a new grader," said Councillor Wheeler. "We'll have to raise the taxes to pay for all this new equipment." A local step dancing group, called the "Black Magic" will be appearing on the Tommy Hunter TV show this Friday night. The girls are, left to right, Pat Stackhouse of Londesboro, Becky McKinley of Zurich, and Kim Craig of Blyth. Area girls on TV this Friday night Two Blyth area girls and a third from Zurich, a step dancing group who call themselves "Black Magic" will be appearing on the Tommy Hunter show this Friday, January 20. Pat Stackhouse, 14, of Londesboro, Kim Craig, 14, of Blyth and Becky McKinley, 10 of Zurich went to Toronto in December to tape the CBC coast, -to -coast show. Kim and Pat had been taking lessons together, for several years and Becky took lessons from Pat. Approximately eight months ago, the girls decided to form their group, "Black Magic". The girls got on the Tommy. Hunter Show after the producer of the show spotted them at the Canadian Open Step Dancing Cham- pionships in Dundalk last June. The girls had won the Group Step Dancing Championships at the competition. They were special guests at the Ontario Open Fiddle and Step - Dance Contests at Bobcaygeon in July and at the Jubilee 3 celebrations in Goderich. Individually, the girls have also won many awards and trophies. Pat is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vic Stackhouse of Londesboro.
