Clinton News-Record, 1977-11-10, Page 14PAGE 14—CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1977 Barayang — Palmer Residing i n Toronto On September 3 Miss Myrna Barayang, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Raymundo and Natividad Barayang of Paranaque, Rizal, Philip- pines and Douglas Bradley Palmer, son of Dr. and Mrs. D.B. Palmer, Clinton, were joined in marriage by Rev. Father Mosteller in the Holy Rosary Church, St. Clair St. Toronto, Ontario. The bride, given in marriage by Mr. Roland Gerig Sr., was gowned in a traditional Philippine gown in ivory colour made of "Juni" material elaborately hand embroidered, and designed by her mother. It featured a long train and, jewelled headpiece. She carried a traditional floral arrangement. Her matron of honour was her aunt Mrs. Corazon Soriano, who had just arrived from the, -Philippines and she and her husband are residing in Vancouver. She also wore a traditional dress of shrimp colour with an overskirt of organza, hand embroidered and carried a cascade of silk flowers in salmon pink and white with matching ribbons. The bridesmaids were Miss Harriett Capallo, friend of the bride, Miss Jo -Anne Palmer, and Mrs. Morris Traynor, sisters of the groom, who were gowned alike in shrimp coloured' gowns with shoe string straps and gathered bodices. They' carried bouquets the same as the matron of honour. The two little flower girls were April and Angela Traynor, nieces of the groom who wore Phillippino costumes of shrimp colour with overskirts' of organza, alsohand embroidered.' All the girls wore shrimp coloured flowers in their hair. The best man was Ronald Levay , of Toronto and the ushers Morris Traynor of Goderich, brother-in-law of the groom, , Roland Gerig Jr. cousin of the groom, and Gerry Lobb. There was a little ring 'and coin bearer, Fergon Fernandez, friend of the bride, The groom's mother, Mrs. D.B. Palmer, wore a shrimp gown and -gold accessories at the reception held at the Civic Garden Centre (Edwards Gardens) Toronto. Out of town guests came from the Philippines, Clinton, Niagara -on -the -Lake, and Porcupine. , The wedding couple spent their honeymoon touring ,south-western, Ontario and are now residing in Toronto. Morning Market sold. out Saturday November 5 was a busy place at Wesley Willis United Church where the annual "Morning Market" was held. The Sunday School rooms were decorated with fall flowers, fruits and vegetables. A good crowd of eager buyers patronized all' the many delightful booths. The guests were welcomed .by the Rev. Santa Claus made his appearance during the morning at the "Kiddies' Corner" to the delight of the children. Mary Hearn's puppet show was packed for . every showing, and the flea market and silent auction were full of surprises and old treasures. The baking booth was an attractive, spot as was the delicatesse_rr with its specialties, and the Christ- mas booth was full of hand- made ornaments and decorations — even Christ- mas cake and shortbread. The sewing and novelties was well patronized as was the tea room, where a delicious lunch ' of sand- wiches, pie and tea were served. Grateful thanks is, due to many who spent long hours of planning and work to make it a success. Thanks also to all the good people who came to buy goods and join in the fun and fellowship. This is what makes it all so worthwhile. Rebekahs planXmasparty The regular meeting of Huronic Rebekah Lodge was held at the I.O.O.F. hall on Monday evening with Mrs. Florence Miller, Noble Grand presiding, assisted by Vice Grand Mrs. Norma Ashton. Several sisters indicated they would attend the ceremony on Saturday November 19 atNthe South Huron Secondary School, Exeter, when the Grand Decoration of Chivalry will be conferred on our own lodge member, Brother John Broadfoot, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ontario, on Brother Gerald McFalls, of Exeter. Brother Ernie Chipchase, Dashwood and 'Brother Verne Robertson, Sarnia. This Investiture is given for outstanding service rendered to their fellow men. A letter was read from the Rebekah Assembly of Ontario, regarding a Youth Day that is being planned in conjunction with the sessions of the Sovereign Grand Lodge when they .are held in Toronto, in September 1980. All lodges are encouraged to institute junior lodges in their own district. A donation was voted to be sent to the Oddfellows' & Rebekah's Home in Barrie to help buy Christmas gifts for the residents. The Noble Grand announced that the next card' party will be held on Thursday November 17. It was decided to have the annual Christmas Party after our first meeting in December which is December 5 and to invite the Oddfellows Lodge. The Dessert Euchre which was held on Wednesday af- ternoon, October 26 was reported to have been well attended. Prue winners were as follows: door prize, Mrs. Leona Lockhart; high prize (euchre) Mrs. Pearl Cum- mings; low prize, Mrs. May Gibson; most lone 'hands, Mrs. Herman Crich. Winners at the card party 1-eld last Thursday evening November 3 were: ladies' high, Mrs. 'D. E. Gliddon; ladies' low, Mrs. Warren Gibbings; most lone hands, (ladies), Mrs. Percy Gib- bings; men's high, Percy Gibbings; men's low, Ernie Brown; most lone hands, (men), Cliff Ashton, Draws were held on baskets of apples and winners were Mrs. Della Slavin and Mrs. Cecile Edgar. A special Communion Service was held at Huron - view on Sunday morning, conducted by the Chaplain of Huronview, Rev. McWhinnie, and organist Douglas Crich. The auditorium was filled to capacity on Monday af- ternoon for the annual Hallowe'en Party. A good number of the Huronview residents and staff were in costume and everyone en- joyed an hour of Old Tyme music and dancing. The music was provided by Marie Flynn, Lorne Lawson, Norman Speir, Cecil Skinner and Jerry Collins. Following the program, those in costume revealed their identity and, cookies, cider and apples were served. The cookies had been made by the residents and super- vised by the girls in'the Craft Room. The residents were en- tertained with a musical program on Family Night. Molly Cox, Mrs. Maitland Driver "and Norman Speir played several instrumental numbers. Mrs. Elsie Hen- derson accompanied at the piano for vocal solos by Nelson Lear and Cecil Goderich to host The Huron Division Council of the Canadian Order of Foresters is hosting. 150 delegates from the Western Ontario Provincial Assembly of Canadian Foresters and 50 Foresters from Eastern Ontario at a two-day con- ference November, 18 and 19 in Goderich. This is the first time the conference has been held in Huron County. The Huron Division Council includes two Courts from Benmiller, two from Kinburn, one from Atwood and one from Wallace. Four motels in the area are booked . for the event to ac- commodate guests. The opening ceremonies Friday Skinner, Mrs, Helen West- brook entertained with vocal solos and led a sing-a-long`of favorites accompanied by Molly Cox. Darlene Hulley and Deanna Lyon pleased the audience with a step -dance duet. Following the program; two new wheel -chairs were presented 'to the Home by the Clinton Legion. Mr. Russell Philips, poppy chairman, made the presentation, assisted by Zone Commander George Campbell, President John . Deaves, and Vice - President John Semple. Mr. Chester Archibald, ad- ministrator, accepted the gift on behalf of Huronview and commended the Legion for the very useful.project. Miss Mary Van Camp thanked the entertainers and the Legion on behalf of the residents. The Over Ninety Club met on Wednesday afternoon and were entertained with selections by the Huronview Orchestra, vocal solos by Mrs. Luella, Cox, a sing -song and readings by Miss Jackson and Mrs. McGratton, The Walkerburn Club Volunteers assisted with the activities and served lunch. 200, Foresters evening will be held at the Legion Hall. Saturday morning the guests will be picked up. in a bus and transported to the Can- dlelight Tavern for breakfast and then on to the Legion Hall where the days business sessions will continue until about 4 p.m. In the evening a gala banquet and dance will be held at Saltford Valley Hall when the group will present a cheque to C. A. Archibald, administrator of Huronview. John Oestreicher. Judy Mason provided the musical solos, accompanied by Kathy Potter at the organ. The bride was gowned in a white polyester dress trim- med with lace around the neckline, sleeves•and empire waist. Lace also finished her train and picture hat. To complete her outfit, the bride carried a cascade of coral roses, daisies and dried flowers. Attending the bride was Barbara Preszcator, RR 1, Exeter. She wore a dress of coral polyester with a flowered jacket -like flounce and a picture hat. She carried a cascade "of coral carnations, daisies and dried flowers. The groomsman was Robert Brown of Toronto and the ushers were Bob Atkinson and Jim Switzer, both of Clinton. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the ' home of the groom's parents. Before taking up residence in Clinton, the newlyweds tooka wedding trip to Niagara Falls.
