Vanastra Lions to sponsor
Bobby at. Sandpiper
- The Vanastra Lions Club
are promoting a British Pub
entertainer to' raise money
for local welfare projects and
it promises to be a fun
evening for everyone on
Friday October 28. The
Sandpiper Inn will become a
British Pub, and when Robert
Smith belts out "I'm a
Londoner" . on the upright
piano, you know its for real.
Billed as "London Bobby"
(he was born and raised in
dear old London) Robert, like
all true Englishmen, be they
duke or dustman, loves the
friendly atmosphere of the
*grand old British institution
known as the "local". He's
dressed in a pearly suit,
Union Jack vest and peaked
cap. Even his tie and socks
, are union jack motif. The
mother of pearl buttons are
a thentic in the traditional
fa hion of East London's
cc stermongers. (We would
c 11 them fruit sellers.)
With such a common name
as Smith, Bob realized that he
needed something else, so six
years ago he became London
"Bobby, though he's the first to
edmitthat some people think
e's a former policeman.
"What we try to do is
recreate the atmosphere of a
British pub, complete to the
sing-alongs" he explained.
From the song favourites of
the Gay Nineties; through the
First Great War, and up to
the present, London Bobby
plays them all. He has a
steady banter of comedy and
jokes in between. Those with
nostalgic requests for a
particular song are seldom
able to stump London Bobby
be they fans of Elton John and
rock o'r those delightful ladies
who came over as war brides.
1110 The local Lions Club have a
special arrangement with H
i Salt for fresh fish and chip
dinners to be served later in
the evening.
Stu Cassels and Ray Martin
will have good draft and other
libations can be ordered from
the bar under special
licensing by the LLBO.

Vanastra Lions Club are

Guiders at Vanastra and hope
to be able to underwrite the

Centre established last spring
at Vanastra.
Their contributions in
support of visually han-
dicapped are a continuing
obligation. The proceeds'
(profit to most people) will all
go toward these projects.
