Clinton News-Record, 1977-10-13, Page 14PAGE 14—CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1977 Bayfield couple marry Holmesville United Church in Holmesville, was decorated with old fashioned coal oil lamps, strings of .myrtle, candelabras and ribbons with flowers, on September 24 for the wedding of Barbara Marie Betties and Robert Kelso Fitzsimons. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Betties of RR 2 Bayfield, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Fitzsimons of Bayfield. Rev. John Oestreicher was assisted by Rev. William Bennett in the double ring ceremony. Miss Anrl, Snell, cousin of thle bride, sang three lovely solos which consisted of Hand in Hand, The Wedding Prayer and.Morning has Broken and was accompanied by Mrs. James Lobb, at the console of the organ. The bride, given in marriage by her father and mother wore a white gown of organza and lace, fashioned in a traditional style. The floor length gown had a high neck and laced trimmed bodice with pinafore ruffles. The full skirt trimmed in lace in an apron effect fell into a chapel train. The bride wore a juliet cap and veil and carried an armful of long stemmed yellow roses with streamers similar to the ones her mother carried on her wedding day. Also the bride wore a cross her mother wore on her wedding day made from the windshield of a World War I German bomber that fell over Canterbury England°during the war. The maid of honor, Miss Sharon Brodie, friend of the bride of Brucefield, wore a floor length gawn of a rust color with a natural macrame yoke Also macrame ties accented the waistline. She carried a half dozen long stemmed roses tied by a variegated rust coloured ribbon. ' The bridesmaids were dressed identical to the maid of honor and carried a single long stemmed yellow rose tied with the variegated ribbon. They were Miss Mary Jean Betties, sister of the bride, of RR 2 Bayfield; Miss Karen Fitzsimons, sister of the groom, of London; Miss Vernonica Huffman of Bayfield; and Miss Jill Catchpole of Kitchener. The groom was dressed in a white Westwood jacket with matching white trousers, vest and "tie with the Caprice shirt also in white. The groomsman, Mr. Dale Peck, friend of the groom of RR 1 Zurich was dressed in matching white jacket and shirt with the dark brown vest and trousers. The ushers dressed in the complete ° dark brown suits with white shirts were Mr. Terry Fitzsimons, brother of the groom, of Bayfield; Mr. Charles Snell, cousin of the bride, of RR 1 Clinton; Mr. Brian Talbot of RR 3 Bayfield; and Mr. Mike McNichol of Clinton. All men wore yellow, rose bouton- nieres. At the reception held at the Canadian Legion in Clinton, the guests were greeted by the bride's mother who wore a floor length sea blue dress with a high bodice trimmed in seed pearls with the matching colored jacket with a white rose corsage. The groom's mother wore a high gathered bodiced floor length dress in a shade of peach with matching jacket with a white rose corsage. The fathers of the bride and groom, wore white rose boutonnieres. During the reception 250 guest were served a dinner made by the,bride's mother and friends. The dinner was laid on white clothed tables, centered with bouquets of flowers grown by Mr. James Snell, uncle of the bride. The master of ceremonies was Mr. Richard Snell, uncle of the bride. For the bride's going away outfit, she wore a black pleated skirt with a red blazer and a matching stripped bow tied blouse of red, black and white. The groom wore a soft blue, three piece suit with co- ordinating shirt. Following the couple's honeymoon in Niagara Falls, they are residing in their new home in Bayfield. Guests attended the wedding from Sault Ste. Marie, Bruce Mines, Ontario, Dayton, Ohio, Toronto, London, Kitchener, Midland and surrounding area. Prior to her marriage, the bride was entertained at a community shower at .the home of Mrs. Doug Bland of RR 2 Bayfield and a miscellaneous shower ,at the home of Mrs. James Snell, aunt of the bride, with co - hostesses, Ann . and Marguerite Snell and Sharon Brodie, ' for relatives and friends. Mrs. Peck of Hensall and Mrs. Hazel Coutts of Seaforth were welcomed to the Home at Monday's program. 'Elsie Henderson, Norman Speir and Jerry Collins provided the old time music and helped to lead the sing -a -long. The program for Family Night was arranged by Mrs. McQuaid of Seaforth and announced by Mrs. Hicknell. The McQuaid sisters, Madonna, Ann Marie and Carol Ann entertained with violin solos and trios as well as step dancing accompanied by Mrs. McQuaid and Nelson Howe of Staffa. The Hicknell sisters, Teresa and Margaret provided their own guitar accompaniment to sing several popular and sacred numbers. Miss Marion Gray thanked the entertainers on behalf of the residents. The Over 90 Club met on Wednesday afternoon and the theme of the program was Thanksgiving. Readings were given by Miss Jackson, Mrs. Ramsay and Mrs. Hunking. A guest of the Club, Mrs. Josie Cunningham sang two, solo numbers and the Huronview Orchestra provided the music. The Walkerburn Club volunteers assisted with the activities. Smile The boy was practicing his violin' lesson in the –house, while out on the porch, his younger sister was playing with the family dog. As the boy scraped away on the violin, the hound howled dismally. The sister stood it as long as she could, then she poked her head in the open window and said: "For goodness sake, can't you play something the dog doesn't know?" AND MRS. ROBERT FITZSIMONS Golden Radars enjoy musical program Some 47 members of the Golden Radars and several guests enjoyed a musical program following their meeting on Wednesday, October 5. Vic Taylor played some good old time, toe tapping music on the violin, accompanied by Elsie Henderson of the piano. The group was also en- tertained by a group con- sisting of Marie Flynn on the piano, daughter Debbie at the piano and tambourine, son Earl on the drums', Harold Black playing the guitar and Ken Dale also on the guitar. Theypresented a varied musical selection with solos by Marie, Debbie and Ken along with step dancing numbers performed by Debbie. Leila Johnston thanked all the entertainment for „their enjoyable music. Prior to the' program, the meeting was conducted by president Mary Grigg. Alice Lawson gave the flower, and card report and noted that a thank -you card was received from Mrs. Wiltse for a flower and an anniversary card was sent to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Trick on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary. Ottilie' Rowden was ap- pointed to replace • Mrs. Rumball as convenor of star members -hip. In other business, a letter was read from the Friendship Club of Brussels with.. ...information regarding the zone rally, on October 12. Minlue Rumball reported that the first 1,000 tickets on a quilt have been sold and an additional 600 tickets were printed. She also had on display some lovely knitted neck scarves which are selling for $3 each. Mr. and Mrs. Watt Webster and Mr. and Mrs. Percy Gibbings reported that several visits were made to the sick and shut-ins at their homes and also at the hospital and Huronview. Convenors for the next meeting are Watt and Ruby Webster, Dorothy Brunsdon and Pearl Cummings. Along with the music program, Ida Livingstone conducted several games of bingo and lunch was served by the committee in charge of George and Irene Glazier, Leila Johnston and Ida Livingstone. `The next meeting will -be held on Wednesday, October 19 and all senior citizens of Clinton and the area are cordially invited to come. UCW hears of Alpha Elaine Townshend gave a very informative talk on the awareness of the hn- dicapped at the afternoon unit of the Ontario Street UCW meeting on October 4. She explained about the Alpha Huron Club, which she belongs to, and that many improvements will be made in public buildings and to the sidewalks to aid the han- dicapped citizens. In other business Mrs. W. Forbes opened the meeting and the worship service was charged by Mrs. Hazel Matheson, Mrs. Eva Cam- pbell, and Mrs. Ruby Web- ster. Mrs. Radford was the pianist. Mrs. Frances Powell gave a very interesting talk and pictures of she and her husband's trip along the B.C. coast. They took this trip on the mission boat, the Thomas Crosby. Dates to be remembered are, October 16 when the joint Thank offering will be held at the Wesley Willis church at 7:30 p.m. The Huron -Perth UCW regional meeting will be held in the Ontario Street Church on October 25 at 7:15 p.m. The next UCW meeting will be held on November 1. Golden Gate club meet The Golden Gate Senior Citizens of Goderich will entertain the Senior Citizens of Exeter on Wednesday, October 19 at 7:30 , p.m. in MacKay Hall. Cards will be played after which lunch will be served. Also do November 2, the Golden Gate Senior Citizens will entertain the Clinton Senior Citizens at 7:30 p.m. in MacKay Hall at which time the Senior Citizens Rhythm Band of Stratford will give a musical entertainment. Special thanks go to the Park Theatre in Goddrich for the removal of seats to make room for two wheelchairs. Also to the Clinton Kinettes for their support in pursuing the in- stallation of curb ramps in Clinton. Alpha meets next in Brussels' Public School, Tuesday, October 25 at 8 p.m. You are welcome. The Worthy Matron s project this year is to pur- chase a piece of indoor out- docir gym equipment for the Queen Elizabeth Wing of Victoria Public Schhol, Gdderich, Ontario. The 'Chapter 1s §elling tickets on a Ceramic Christmas Tree,' donated by Amy Brown to be drawn at the meeting on December lst. Plans are being made for the Annual Christmas Dance to be held at the Sanetpiper Inn on November 19th. The evening ended with a skit, honouring the Past Matron and Past Patron, Joan and Don Bell, Maple Street, Clinton.
