After dinner Mrs. Straughan thanked her friends for the party in honour of her bir- thday and both daughters also expressed their ap- preciation. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips attended the wedding of Peter Teichert and Miss 0 _Brenda Fisher in Goderich last Saturday. The August meeting of the Auburn Women's , Institute was held last week at the home of Mrs. Robert Peck. The meeting was conducted by president Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock who opened the meeting with the poem August Reverie. The Ode was. * sung followe by all repeating the Mary Ste art Collect and 0 Canada w s sung. The minutes of the ,previous meeting were accepted as read by the secretary Mrs. Robert 'Peck. She also gave the financial statement. A letter was read an- nouncing the new home economists 'for Huron County 6- Miss Bea McCienaghan and Miss Grace Bird. It was announced that 4-H club leaders for the fall project Featuring Fruit would be Mrs. Donald Cartwright, Mrs. John Hildebrand, Miss kKaren McClinchey and Torn Cunningham. A- report of the 80th an- niversary of the founding of the Women's. Institute that was, held recently at Kit- ' ehener was given by Mrs. • • Robert Peck and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock. Mrs. Peck displayed her gifts made for the gift stall at the London Convention to be, held at. Sandpiper, Inn at Vanastra on September 28 and 29. ,It is hoped that most of the Auburn members will attend this two day convention when it is so close. Mrs. Thomas Haggitrt and Mrs. Leonard Archambault 'were in charge, of programs for the social meeting. Winners were: word contest, Mrs. Lillian Leatherland; material contest, Mrs. Thomas Lawlor; know Ontario, Mrs. Kenneth McDougall; cents, Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson; nostalgia, Mrs. Leonard Archambault and the bir- thday, closest, Mrs, Elva Straughan. A word of ap- preciation was voiced to Mrs. Peck for the delicious dessert which she served at 2 p.m. when the members arrived. Craig and aunt Mrs. Ba Allen. The community is pleased that Mrs. William Moss is home after several days as a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich.
