Sports were held in the afternoon for both young and old, and a good time was had by all present. The Holmesville church will be closed for the month of July for Rev. and Mrs. Oestreicher, to enjoy a holiday. Ontario ' Street Church will be open for those wishing to attend church. Graduation Holmesville School held their graduation on Friday, June 24th, The lunch table nicely decorated with a white cloth and a bouquet of red roses, and red candles and lunch was served by the ladies of Goderich Township Women's Institute. Mr. R.G. Reaburn, school principal:g'ave a few words to the audience and the graduates, and Mr. Simons then introduced the guest speaker Mr. W.D. Kenwell, Superintendent, Huron County Board of Education, spoke to the students and wished them every success in their years ahead. Laura Raithby presented Mrs. Stewarrt with a gift from the band members. The school band played' several numbers under the direction of Mrs. Stewart. Mrs. Stewart recei' ed a standing ovation for her work and time spent with the band, as she , is no longer music teacier for the school. Mrs. •Stewart then thanked the members of the band, parents and everyone for their support through the years. Presentations of awards included: top girl in proficiency, Lisa Ryan; top boy in proficiency, Paul Hartman, presented by Mrs Sylvania Johnston from L1901 Canadian Foresters ; top history student, Wendy Penhale; top English student, Andrea Jackson, presented by Mrs. Millie Lobb and Mrs. Joan Thompson of SS No. 4 Community Club; top geography student, Laurie Bauer, presented by representative of Glen Price; top mathematic student, Debbie Bedard; top science student, Paul W ettlaufer ; top sportsmanship award, Charles Wise, presented by Mrs. Sylvia Johnston of Taylor's Corner Community Club; top grade five student receiving Mrs. Orr's Plaque, Jean Mayhew, presented by Mrs. Beverly Orr. Special music award presented by Mrs. Stewart won by Danny Tyndall; special award to Holmesville Public School Band, a cheque presented by Mrs .McIlwain, president of Goderich Township Womens Institute. Mrs. Stewart thanked the Institute for their cheque; family studies and industrial arts award, top winner, Debbie Harrison - runner ups Wendy Penhale, Paul Har- tman, Lisa Ryan; ,industrial arts, Gary Oke, presented by Mrs. Bruinsma. Assisting in making these presentations were Mr. Sygrove, Mr. Kenwell and Mrs. Jones. Mr. Reaburn gave his word of praise to Mrs. Stewart and wished her well in her new achievements. The . program closed with singing of the Queen. Mr. and Mrs. Ed McBride are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Steve Pine and Family in North Bay. Mr. Vivan Cooper is un- dergoing tests on his eye in St. Joseph's 1-16spital, London. Mrs. Norman Deckert is visiting her sister, Mrs. Ruth Dickert in Harriston. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Speare, Toronto, were the guests -of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Mellis last week. Kippen East Women's Institute catered, to the Graduation Banquet at Huron Centennial. • School on Thur- sday last. Mr. and Mrs. Alex. McGregor are touring the Atlantic Region of Canada. Dancing was enjoyed by all to the music of the Shannons, and lunch was served by the White Carnation staff. A very good time was had by all. Homuth announced. Those receiving the scholarship, for attaining 80 percent or better were Lorry, York, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reginald York of Bayfield, who received 94.16 percent ; Charles Mustard, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mustard of Brucefield with 91.6; Mark Nicholson, 18, son of Mr, and Mrs: John Nicholson of Clinton, with 86.33 percent; Michael Hoba, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert 1-Ioba of Blyth, with 86.00 percent; Linda Blake, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Blake of Holmesville, with 85.50 percent; _ Pat Phillips, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Phillips of Clinton, received 85.00 per- cent; Kathy Wubs, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wubs of RR 2, Bayfield with 84.83 percent; David Clynick, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Clynick of Clinton, with 83.33 percent; Bev Slade, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrie Slade of Clinton, with 82.83 percent; and Diana Brand, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Brand of RR 3, Clinton. another 25 years together.
