Commencement Exercise
of the One -Hundred and Sixty
Fifth Session of Union
Theological Seminary in
Virginia were held in Grace
Covenant Presbyterian
Church, Richmond, Virginia
on Sunday evening, May 15,
1977.
In the graduating class
were two young men who
were student ministers in
Knox Presbyterian Church in
Bayfield: Stephen Farris
B.A. of Toronto and John
Hamilton, B.A. of Lewiston,
Pennsylvania.
During the Exercises,
Stephen was awarded the
Patrick D, Miller Memorial
Award for Excellence in the
Study of Scripture and he also
received a Graduate
Fellowship. Each year the
Faculty of Union Theological
Seminary in Virginia awards
fellowships for graduate
study to graduating students
on the basis of merit and
promise for a useful ministry,
and Stephen, the only
Canadian, along with four
other young men received the
fellowship.
John was awarded the. E. I.
George Award for Voice
Improvements and also the
William Monroe Wicher
Memorial Award. The Award
stipulates that it shall be
made to the member of the
Seminary Community
"Whose fidelity to duty, Love
for others, and devotion to
Jesus Christ are an abiding
inspiration." Both young men
were awarded ordination
degrees as Doctor of
Ministry.
John is now serving in a
two-point charge in the First
Presbyterian Church in Polk,
Pennsylvania and in Big
Sandy, Pa.
Stephen and his wife Patty
are both serving at the Scott
Mission in Toronto for the
summer and Stephen will
return to do graduate studies
in Virginia in the fall.
I'm sure, those who knew
both these young men, wish
them well in their ministries
and studies and also extend to
them our sincerest
congratulations.
