(1)0# 4 host children's workshops
The children of Blyth and
the surrounding area will
have the opportunity to
participate in .theatre
workshops this summer,
`thanks to a grant from the
village of Blyth and the
ministry of culture and
• recreation. The workshops
are geared primarily at
children from the ages of nine
to fourteen, and will be held
from July 4 to August 17.
Kirk Grayson, a recent
graduate of the performance
stream of Ryerson
Polytechnical Institute will
conduct workshops including
masks, make-up techniques,
puppets and improvisation
exercises. Beth Shier, who is
currently studYingj theatre
production at Ryerson will
show the children the basics
of lighting, set design and
construction.
The goal of the workshops
will be the production of three
original scripts with the
children as performers. Jim
Schaefer, co-ordinator of the
workshops and actor -writer -
director with the Blyth
Summer Festival, has
written two scripts for the
workshops, entitled "The
Maitland River Mud Mon-
ster" and "Tree". The third
production will be created by
the children during the course
of the workshops. It is hoped
that, following performances
in Blyth, the shows can be
taken on a short tour of the
area.

Rehearsals begin at Playhouse
Activity at the Huron
County Playhouse in Grand
Bend increased tenfold this
week as rehearsals began for
Plaza Suite, the first show of
the season,
The lead actors are Aileen
Taylor Smith, James Hobson,
Judith Dagley and
Christopher Benson.
Miss Smith's stage credits
include performances at
Redlight Theatre, Theatre
•
New Brunswick, Centaur
Theatre, and playing such
roles as Blanche in A
Streetcar Named Desire and
Linda Lohmon in Death of a
Salesman. At the Playhouse
she played Amanda in The
lass Menagerie.
Mr. Hobson, making his
debut ' at the Playhouse,
appeared on Broadway in
Fiddler on the Roof, Most
Nappy Fellow and
Mahagonny.
Ms. Dagley appeared most
recently on the Anne Murray
Super Special and King of
Kensington. Her theatrical
experience includes Cooler
Wear the Lake for. Second City
in Chicago and The Bald
Soprano, Love for Love, and
r- Lysistrada for the Chicago
Repertory Company.
Mr. Benson appeared as
Andy in Star Spangled Girl
and Jack Mumberly in the
Mumberly Inheritance at the
Playhouse in 1976.
Two acting apprentices,
Jeannette Lambermont and
Robert Parsons will complete
the cast. Both are senior
students at York University
School of Performing Arts.
James Murphy, Artistic
Director for the Playhouse
will direct the six actors in
the Neil Simon comedy which
will open the 1977 Festival of
Summer Theatre on Tuesday,
July 5.
Douglas A. Crich, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Crich,
Clinton, graduated on June 15
from Fanshawe College,
London, in Television
Broadcasting. Douglas is a
former graduate of CHSS in

'`''TThe Dutch Nightingale Choir is celebrating its 40th anniversary with ay tour to Canada,
through South Western Ontario. Clinton is the first performance of this tour. In the past
the choir has performed in Italy, Iran, Spain, Greece and Turkey and many times in
Germany as well as appearances on European television
Authority plans summer events
The Ausable-Bayfield
Conservation Authority is
planning a number of events
over the summer.
The events, sponsored by
the authority will include an
open air folk concert to be
held on Saturday, July 2 at
the Parkhill Conservation
area. The evening concert,
which begins at 7:30 p.m. will
feature Melinda Madden, a
Canadian folk singer. Along
with performing her own
original work, she will also
perform the songs of such
well-known folk artists as Bob
Dylan, James Taylor and
Carol King.
The evening is bound to be
an enjoyable one and the
admission price is $1 a car,
with six people per car.
For the sports minded, the
Authority has scheduled the
Parkhill Canoe Regatta to be
run on Sunday, July 24. Also
to be held at the Parkhill
Conservation Area,
registration for the races
begins at 12 noon on the
beach. There will be an entry
fee of $3 a canoe and the
racing starts at 1:30 p.m.
Everyone can join in at the
regatta since there are
•
stations.
classes for all. Mixed and
family classes, men and
women's open, crab race,
gunnel bobbing and.the kayak
class will all be part of events
of the day.
