Clinton News-Record, 1977-06-23, Page 8411, PAGE 8--CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, JUNE 23, 1977 the BAYFIEW'Mi��� ena Erickson bugle Village council approves fixing old, Town Hall for seniors Bayfield Council met in regular session Monday evening and accepted a plan presented by the Senior Citizens president Harry Baker on the repairs and refurbishing of the Old Town Hall. The approval was subject to receiving a grant to cover all costs from the New Horizons. Council also received a complaint from Mr. G. Beakhust regarding derelict cars etc. to the north of lots 551-581-582. Correspondence was also read from Mr. Letinour stating he would meet with council on Tuesday July 5 to discuss the assessment factor. Council received the three year lease renewal to operate the -Village Marina on the Sou,h side of the Bayfield River, and empowered the clerk and the Reeve to sign an agreement with Mis,,,,Ilene Hession regarding her Fair Acres subdivision. They also received a letter from Miss Kathleen Reid, secretary of the Historical Society, urging a meeting of the Bayfield Architectural Conservancy Advisory Committee (BACAC) as soon as possible. In other business, council learned that consideration is being given to the formation of a Fire Area Board and discussed the findings of a steering committee which is planning a further meeting. The Reeve announced that the official opening of the new library under construction will take place on Aug. 6. Council decided to write a letter to a business establish- ment asking them to remove certain items from the Village right away as they are creating a hazard and a parking problem. Ladies Guild plans sale Trinity Church Ladies Guild were the guests Tuesday afternoon, June 14 of Mrs. Ruth Mutzelburg at her very beautiful lakeside home fora sumptious and bountiful pot luck supper. Following a most enjoyable meal together the .Guild members held their regular meeting presided over by the president Mrs. Vera Turner with 14 members answering the roll call. and Vera Turner read a poem entitled "For Living". She then thanked Ruth for the very kind in- vitation once again to enjoy the pot luck supper _and June meeting in such a lovely setting. Mrs. Berthena Hammond, secretary, read the minutes of the May meeting which were adopted as read. On a motion by Mrs. Greta Scot- chmer and Mrs. Ruby Fit- zsimons all correspondence was moved for filing. In the absence of the treasurer Mrs. Lorna Mer- ner, the treasurer's report was given by Ruby Fitz- simons who also gave her report on the cards and flowers' sent out to the sick. Everyone, signed a card to send to Mrs. Margaret Wain who is hospitalized in Goderich Hospital. In other business Mrs. Vina Parker offered to write a letter in July to their Foster Child and in August Mrs. Greta Scotchmer will write a letter to her. Each month some member of the Guiold will correspond with their Foster Child. The Guild set Saturday morning August 6 at 11 am for their bake sale in the Parish Hall. Vina Parker will be the hostess for the next regular meeting when they meet again in September, the scripture will be taken by Mrs. Beulah Smith and the poem by Mrs. Pat Van Patter. Birthday money was received from Mrs. Vina Parker, Mrs. Greta Scot- chmer and Mrs. Ruby Fit- zsimons. �+ - The meeting closed with prayer and the benediction was pronounced 'by Rev. William M. Bennett. (photo by Milvena Erickson) Village personal, social notes Mr. and Mrs. Albert Craig, Mrs. Judy Layton, Joanne and Sheryl attended a family dinner at the Legion Hall in Lucan on Sunday to honour Albert's father, Mr. Ed Craig on Fathers Day. Mrs. Ruth TRobinson, Saskatoon, Saskatchewa, a niece of Mrs. Jeanne Bennett was a guest during the weekend at the Rectory with Rev. William and Mrs. Bennett. The Bennett's daughter Sally of Strathroy also spent some time during the weekend with her parents. Mrs. W. Earl, London and Mrs. A. Lawton of Peking, China visited last week with their son and brother, Mr. Eric Earl and his wife Evelene. The Earl's also have as their guest their gran - daughter, Miss Rim,. Quigg of London. To all you fathers, I hope you had an enjoyable day on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Talbot attended the funeral of Mr. Talbot's uncle, Mr. Thomas Workman in Woodstock on Saturday June 11 Mr. Talbot acted as a pallbearer for his late uncle. Mrs. G. Woodworth of Kitchener was a weekend guest at the elegant old Albion Hotel on Bayfield's Main Street. Best wishes to little Miss Cari Lynn Talbot, daughter of Les and Bonnie Talbot, who is presently a • patient in Sick Children's Hospital, London, Get well soon Cari Lynn. Mr. and Mrs. Don Dinel, Tracey and Erin, London visited for the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Maude Weston. Mr. and Mrs. Matt Nediger had their son and daughter- in-law of Toronto as their week -end guests. Mrs. Berthena Hammond attended the first communion of her nephew, Dennis Morrian in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Clinton on Sunday. She remained for a few days with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Florian and Dennis. Miss Lori McNutt, Zurich The girls ball team, the Bayfield Babes are on a winning streak. Thursday night last they played the Bluewater girls and solidly trounced them 67 to 12. Sunday afternoon they beat Paul Bunyan by a 29-17 score, and Sunday night the Babes won over the Bluewater Girls 21-15. Eight teams compete in the girls ball team. Girl honored at shower Mrs. Flossie Talbot, Mrs. Rosemarie Taman Mrs. Rose Scotchmer and Mrs Ann Wild held a miscellaneous bridal shower on Wednesday evening June 15 to , honour bride -elect Miss Pauline Armstrong whose wedding tkes place on Saturday July 9 in Knox Presbyterian Church in Bayfield. Friends and relatives filled thP Talbot home to wish Pauline every happiness. A contest entitled "Fruits and Vegetables" was won by Mrs. Barbara Desjardins of Goderich and Mrs. Evelyn Greer. Several fun games were enjoyed, one entitled "What's in a Name" and a hilarious reading describing the , shower, with adjectives added by the guests present. Miss Laura Taman read a very appropriate address after which three young ladies, Tracey Poswaek, a niece of the bride -elect, Lisa Taman and Leigh Anne Taman presented the gifts to Pauline. Mrs. Desjardins assisted in creating a fashionable "hat" from the ribbons and bdws taken off the innumerable lovely gifts. Pauline made a fitting reply, thanking everyone for their thoughtfulness and the ladies in arranging such a lovely evening for her. The gathering° reciprocated by singing "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow." in unison. A bounteous lunch w'as enjoyed and Mrs. Susie Pollock won a prize :,for holding the lucky tea cup. Last Thursday the Bayfield Atoms Minor Soccer team went to Seaforth. They all turned out and played a very good gome. The young boys showed: their determination to win scoring two goals in the first 20 minutes and held on to the lead until just before the end when Seaforth scored two goals ending the game in a tie. Goals were scored by David Telford and Trevor Scot- chmer. John Garrett played was a guest of Miss Jayne Sturgeon for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Talbot were in Windfall on Sunday and attended the Workman Family picnic. Once again, the Bayfield Lions Club are sponsoring a bus to transport children to swimming classes. The classes run from July 4 to 15 and will be in the afternoon, leaving Bayfield at 12:30 pm. If you are interested in taking swimming lessons you can register at the Jown Hall Friday evening June 24th from 7 to 9 p.m. or on Saturday morning from 10:30 to 12. Paul Deelstra scored Bayfield's only goal. Andrew Couper in goal led his team very well. The pee wees travel to St. Columban on Monday June 27 for their next game. Lioness make $90 in sale The Lioness Club reported a successful bake sale held Saturday morning at the Old Homestead Trailer Park. The girls said the Sale was well supported with all the goodies sold in only 20 minuted, realizing a total of $ 90. Lioness members Wynn Graham and Carolyn Snell said they will be making. a canvass of the business establishments in the Village for their annual Penny_ Sale, July 30. Anglican church news Holy Communion was celebrated on Sunday at Trinity Anglican Church with the Rector, Rev. Wm. M. Bennett as celebrant. Assisting the Rector at the 10.00 a.m. service were Philip Du Boulay and Andrew Erickson. Collection was received by Howard Lansing, and Morgan Smith, who also read the lesson for the second Sunday in Trinity. The memorial flowers were placed in the Church by Mrs. Hugh Crosby of Mooretown in Memory of her sister Mrs Non Howard. In keeping with Father's Day the Rector's sermon was based on "Roots" the family roots of Jesus. The Rector asked everyone to remember Mrs. Margaret Vain and Mrs Daisy Arkell who are both hospitalized in Alexandra Talent day held Several mothers attended Talent Day at Huron Cen- tennial School, Brucefield on Monday and Tuesday last. Monday they watched the Kindergarden children and grades one and two perform. On Tuesday it was a program of the Grade 3 and 4 youngsters. The little people put on a very much enjoyed per- formance with a big thank you to the teachers who had the patience and took the time to instruct the children.
