All enjoyed a good visit in the sunshine and mnewed acquaintances while the younger generation played. The sports committee, Lorne and Hazel Hackett and Jamie and Gregg conducted races and relays. The win- ners were: five years and under, first, Stanley Airdrie; second, Sherie Oesch; 6-8 years, first Beverley Harrison; second, Scott Hackett; 9-11 years, first Alan Hunt ; Hunt; second, Brenda Hackett; 12-13 years, first, Brian Hackett; second Brenda Foster; single ladies, first, Teresa Foster; second Joanne Collins; single men, first Jamie Hackett; second Greg Hackett; married ladies, first Barbara Oesch; second Dorothy Airdrie; married men, first Arthur Airdrie; second Jim Collins; ladies kick the shoe, first Dorothy Airdrie; second Teresa Foster; men's kick the shoe, first Greg Hackett; second Leroy Harrison; girls three legged race, first, Barbara Oesch and Bernice Willert;. second Dorothy Airdrie and Joanne Collins; boys three legged race, first Jamie and Greg Hackett; second Ian Hackett and George Collins; girls wheelbarrow race, first, Dorothy Airdrie and Joanne Collins; second Beverley Harrison and Teresa Foster; boys wheelbarrow race, first, eorge Collins and Ian 111Kackett; second Alan Hunt and Scott Hackett. Two relays dropping the clothes pin in a milk bottle and "who can break the *balloon" provided a good laugh for all. Harold Willert guessed the correct number of jelly beans in the jar (172) and Ruth Harrison had the most change in her pocket or purse. A smorgasbord supper was enjoyed by everyone and arranged by the directors, Bryan and Linda Hodgert, assisted by Gordon and Brenda MacLean and Bill and Lois Hodgert. m The president Chester Hackett welcomed everyone and asked for a moment's silence in memory of those who had passed away the past year. The minutes were read by Bell Hackett and declared correct by Herb Taylor and Bud Hunt. Leroy Harrison made a motion and seconded by Elizabeth that the picnic be held in _Clinton on the second Saturday in June, 1978. The sports committee presented gifts to the following: youngest child, Malcolm Hackett; oldest person, Floss Williamson; farthest away Floss Williamson, Vancouver. The two cans of ham in the draw were, won by Phyllis Harrison andADiane Collins. The committee for 1978 was accepted by Annie Harrison and Herb Taylor. The president next year will be Jim Aikenhead; secretary treasurer', Eunice Aikenhead; directors, Harold and Joyce Willert, Roy and Barbi Oesch; sports Art and Dorothy Airdrie and Bruce and Marie Collins. Floss (Harrison) Williamson brought greetings from B.C. and told everyone that she would be in Ontario for four months. A good day was then brought to a close. Legion installs executive Branch140 of the Clinton Legion was an active spot on the evening of June 6 when the new Legion and Auxiliary officers for 1977-78 were chosen. The officers were piped into, *he building by a member of th"e-Clinton Pipe Band and a • dinner and dance were held for the occasion. An installation team from Blyth helped with the joint presentation and the new officers for the Legion were: past president, Frank Pyke; president, John Deeves; 1st vice president, John Semple', 2nd vice president, Norman LaCroix; secretary, Lyndon Bosworth; treasurer, Cliff 0 Parker; sgts-in-arms, Percy Brown. In the Auxiliary the officers announced were: past president, Hilda Semple; president, Gladys Chambers; 1st vice president, Annie Sallows ; 2nd vice president, Dorothy O'Conne11 ; secretary, Grace Castle; treasurer, Phyllis Mount- ford; sgts-in-arms, Fran Porter. Rev. Wm. Bennett and Rev. HJohn Ostreicher were in- stalled as padres and the following were appointed to the executive; Percy Hugh, Harvey Hayter, W.B. (Hap) McAlpine, Harold Black, Terry Maguire, Harry Merriman, Russ Phillips, Dorothy Fleet, W. Holland, Vivian Knights, M. DWAYNE EDWARD LINNER A very pretty wedding took place on May 14 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Westbrook of 123 Quebec Street in Mitchell, when their daughter Janet Elizabeth exchanged vows with Dwayne Edward Linker amid family and close friends. The groom is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs, Edward Linner of Goderich. The bride and her at- tendants descended the curving staircase to the strains of The Wedding March to take their places in front of the fireplace 'where the Reverend Donald Deas officiated at the double ring ceremony'. Mr. Harley, organist at Mitchell United Church, was the pianist -- Escorted by her father, the bride wore a gown of white polyester organza with a chapel train and a scoop neckline trimmed with delicate lace. Lace appliques graced the skirt and the top of the full length- sleeves. She wore a Juliette cap of guipure lace which held a floor sweeping veil of silk illusion trimmed with daisr$y lace. She also wore a ruby pendant borrowed from her mother and carried a bouquet of yellow roses, stephanotis and trailing ivy. Attending the bride were her sisters, Mrs. Roger Jolliffe of London and Miss .Lori Westbrook of Mitchell. They were dressed alike in full length gowns of yellow polyester jersey with V -necks and cut away sleeves topped with sheer yellow floral capes. They wore yellow picture hats trimmed with ribbons to match their dresses and carried bouquets of yellow and white daisies. The groom was attended by Michael Falconer of Clinton and his brother Glen Linner of Goderich, The groom and his attendants were dressed alike in dark brown tuxedos with velvet vests. Following the wedding, a family dinner was held at the White Carnation in Holmesville where the bride's table was decorated with crystal candelabra, yellow candles and centred with the wedding cake. Roger Jolliffe, brother-in-law of the bride, was the master of ceremonies and -proposed a toast to the bride. Following dinner the guests were entertained with musical selections by Wanda, Glen and Kenneth Linner and Murray Keith. The bride's mother received guests in a dress of ivory colored polyester featuring long sheer sleeves and a full length sleeveless coat Of ivory lace. Her cor- sage was pink roses with white daisies. The groom's mother wore a full length sleeveless gown with matching long sleeved jacket of ceam polyester jersy with floral pattern in shades of peach, yellow and green. She wore a corsage of yellow roses and white daisies. Southern Comfort played for the wedding dance attended by friends and relatives. For a honeymoon trip to OttaUva the bride changed into , a street length dress of moss green and a corsage of yellow roses. The groom wore complimenting three piece suit. The bride and groom wore engraved gold medallions, gifts to each other. Mr. and Mrs. Linner are residing at 750 Kipps Lane in London. The bride is em- ployed as a nurse at Victoria Hospital and the groom is a bookkeeper for Sutherland Construction. • Prior to the wedding, the bride was feted at showers held by her aunt, Mrs. Len Westbrook of Goderich for relatives, by friends of the bride in London and at a community shower held by neighbors in Mitchell.
