Clinton News-Record, 1977-06-16, Page 11Miss Canada will open Playhouse for the summer season Yvonne Foster, the reigning Miss Canada, will open the 1977 Country Playhouse season July 5. The brief ribbon cutting ceremony will precede the opening performance of the Playhouse production of Neil Simon's Plaza Suite. Miss Foster, who is from Saskatchewan, travels from r coast to coast as well as out of the country in her duties as Miss Canada. Sue Niblett, will accompany her to the Playhouse ceremony. Neil Simon wrote Plaza Suite in 1968 the Broadway version starred George . C. Scott and Maureen Stapleton. Since then it has had hun- dreds of productions all over the world. The film version also starred Maureen • R 1 i 6 Stapleton along with Eli Wallach. The Country Playhouse opening night will celebrate the sixth season, 39th production and the 225th performance. Mr. Hobson making his debut at the Playhouse was featured on Broadway in Fiddler on the Roof, Lovely Ladies, Kind Gentlemen, Mahogonny, and Most Happy Fellow. The Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society met last Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Roy Daer. President, Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson was in charge and gave the call to worship. She welcomed all and Mrs. F Frank "Raithby had the devotional period. The hymn, 0 God of Bethel by whose hand, was read. The scripture lesson was read alternately. Mrs. Raithby .gave an in- spiring meditation ori the theme, Influencing others for Good and followed with prayer. The roll call was answered with a Bible verse. The 'minutes were accepted as read by the secretary Miss Minnie Wagner. Business was discussed and the financial statement was given by the treasurer, Mrs. Frances Clark. 'I'he hymn, All People that on Earth do dwell, was read. The mission study was taken by Miss Minnie Wagner. She told about Nigeria and about the missionaries serving in this country. The offering was received by Mrs. Frances Clark and dedicated with prayer by Mrs. Sanderson. The closing hymn, Praise my soul the King of Heaven was read followed by the benediction. All hymns were the same ones used at Her Majesty, The Queen's recent Jubilee Service at St. Paul's Cathedral last Tuesday. A delicious lunch was served by Mrs. Daer. LADIES OF KNOX UNITED CHURCH The Ladies of the Knox United Church met recently at the home of Mrs. Elliott Lapp to plan for a bridal pageant which will be held in Knox United Church on Friday evening June 24 at 8 p.m. Conveners chosen were Mrs. Maurice Bean, Mrs. Dorothy Grange, Mrs. Elliott Lapp and Mrs. Barry Millian. They are to be in charge of advertising, refreshments and music. This committee is working hard now getting wedding dresses down through the ages.
