by Bob Livermore
The Clinton Colts were off
to a good start last Friday
night as they defeated the
Dashwood Tigers 4-3 in the
season's opener.
The excellent pitching of
Steve Switzer, Cam
MacDonald and Mark
Nicholson led the Colts to
their victory in the out of tow n
game.
The Tigers scored early in
the game with a run in the
first inning to take a 1-0 l'ead.
With one out, Rick Schilbe
doubled and when John
Hayter singled Schilbe scored
when catcher Butch Fleet
dropped the throw for an
error.
Cam MacDonald relieved
starter Switzer and pitched
the fourth and fifth innings
for the Colts.
In the top of the fifth inning,
the Colts scored three runs to
take a 3-1 lead. Back to back
singles by Cal Fremlin and
Cam MacDonald, plus an
error loaded the bases. Larry
Pickett singled in two runs,
and a_ sacrifice by Fleet
brought in the third run.
The Colts added their
eventual winning run in the
seventh inning when Doc
Miller hit his first homer of
the season. The Tigers never
gave up and roared back
score two runs in the bottom
of the eighth inning to narrow
the score to 4-3.
A ''wild throw from relief
pitcher Nicholson who hit a
batter, and singles by John
Hayter and Jim Guenther led
to the two runs.
Guenther pitched the entire
game for the Tigers in ab-
sorbing his first loss for the
season, while MacDonald
gained the victory for the
Colts with relief help 'from
Nicholson, who picked up the
save by pitching the last four
innings. Each team gathered
