The Huronview Orchestra provided the. old time music for the first half of Monday afternoon's program on -May 9 followed by a half hour tribute to Mothers' Day. Appropriate 'readings were given by Mrs. Olive Straughan, Mrs. Bessie Elliott, Mrs. Luella Cox, Mrs. Margaret 'Murray and Cecil Skinner. Mrs. Elsie Hen- derson and Nelson Lear sang a duet number, The Church of Long Ago, followed by a sing - a -long of songs related to Mothers' Day. The Clinton Kinette Club entertained their adopted grandmothers from Ground Floor North and Centre on Tuesday evening with a_ smorgasbord and banquet and program. Forty-eight residents attended the dinner and were presented with corsages when they arrived. The musical program in- cluded the Wesley Willis primary choir and several numbers by Mr. Cull. Everyone reported a lovely evening, and the Clinton Kinette Club are to be congratulated for theirc many acts of kindness to their adopted grandmothers. The residents enjoyed an evening of old time music on Family 'Night provided by Howard Smith and Archie Mann of Brussels along with Huronview's Elsie Henderson and Norman Speir. Mrs. McCreight thanked the entertainers on behalf of the residents. Soroity hears of ALPHA Following the meal, everyone enjoyed draw charades and court whist and an evening of fun. The May 10 meeting of the Ritual of Jewels Chapter of Beta Sigmna Phi was at; tended by nine members at the home of Joan Westerhout. Final plans were discussed for the social on May 13. Names to be phoned for Red Cross blood donors were distributed. It was decided to send $200 to Huronview. Elaine Townsend presented a very interesting program on Alpha -Huron, Awareness League for Physically Handicappte Adults 'ALPHA) . The meeting was concluded with the Induction of Officers for the fall term. The home of Bill and Mary Marsh was the location of the social on May 13. Nineteen members and spouses en- joyed a hot turkey dinner catered by Mrs. Miller. Tuckersmith 4-H corn club meets Several different kinds of weeds were identified and a class of feed corn judged at the first meeting of the Tuckersmith Field Crops Club held on May 5 at the farm of Mr. Jim Papple. The meeting began with the 4-H pledge by David Ste. Marie. The roll call and minutes of the last meeting were then read. The club is preparing for the Huron County 4-H judging competition on May 28 at the Seaforth Arena and Fairgrounds. (News -Record photo) Legion elects officers The Hensall Ladies' Legion Auxiliary met on Tuesday evening with the President Mrs. Beatrice Uyl presiding. Mrs. Iva Reid reported for the Sports Committee and arrangements were made for the Penny Sale to be held June 3. During the evening Mrs. Edgar ,Munn was presented with a gift by Mrs. Leonard Noakes in recognition of' her faithful services as a pianist. The newly elected officers are as follows: President, 4 Mrs. Beatrice Uyl; treasurer, Mrs.Mona Campbell; secretary, Mrs. Donna Allan; 1st vice president, Margaret McDonald; 2nd vice- president, Mrs. Hilda Smale; Sgt. at Arms Mrs. Iva Reid; Executive, Mrs. Minnie Noakes; Mrs. Joan Beierling, Mrs. Wanda McClinchey; Mrs. Jean Munn, and Marg Vanstone. The mystery prize was won by Joan Beierling; the guessing prize by Marg Vanstone and the attendance prize by Beatrice Uyl. The Zone Rally will be at Exeter on Wednesday evening. Refreshments were served. By Hilda M. Payne "Unit .2 of Hensall UCW met on Monday evening May 9 for their monthly meeting with 14 members and two visitors present. Mrs. Stewart Black- well chaired the meeting and• opened with a poem on family life and the hymn, "Happy the home when God is there": Mrs. Jack Corbett chaired the devotional and read a. cutting from the London Free Press about the life of Catherine Selves, a friend of some members of our congregation. Being blind, music transformed her life from darkness to light. A poem, "A Mother's Way" a prayer and the hymn, "Take My Life" concluded the devotional. After dedication of the offertory, Mrs. Ian McAllister showed pictures of a recent trip to the British Isles, showing the beauties of Ireland and Coventry Cathedral. Mrs. Carl Payne followed this with a study on the world food crisis and how it can be relieved. This is a social, not a technical problem. A hymn, "Work, for the night is coming", was then sung. During the business, a letter of,thanks was read and invitations to attend a meeting at Blyth on May 24, Brucefield UCW on June 7 at 2 p.m. m and Hensall IITT �% LE FORAD BIG I ,� RESULTS d Presbyterian Church on June 6 at 8 p.m. Final plans for entertaining on June 20 were announced and all plans finalized for the Beef Bar -b -q on May 25. The meeting then closed with all repeating the Mizpa?'i Benediction and a dainty lunch was ser ed by hostesses Mrs. Jack Drysdale and Mrs. Alex Munn. Obituary Miss Ivy Newton In failing health for several years, Ivy Logan Golden Newton died in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, on May 3, 1977. She was a daughter of the late Horace and Mary Ann Cox Newton and lived at Porter's Hill and Goderich before moving with her mother and sister to Toronto in'the early 1900's. A sister May Logan Newton, predeceased her.
