Clinton News-Record, 1977-05-19, Page 23• Hensall taxes
up 17 mills
Hensall ratepayers will
face a 17.3 mill increase iri
their taxes this year, but the
village's share of this in-
crease is only four mills, the
remainder of the increase
being school support.
r For the average taxpayer
with a $3,000 assessment, it
means an extra $51.90 in
taxes this year.
Reeve Harold Knight ex-
pressed some frustration at
the council's regular meeting
last week when he said "We
fought like heck to keep our
mill rate increase down to
four mills and then the Board
of Education hits us with a
A 13.3 mill increase in school
support."
' Council has no control over
the increases by the Board of
Education who ju 'nped
Hensall's assessment from
$92,000 last year to $117,617
this year.
This 17.3 mill increase will
bring the general municipal
rate to 42.94 mills com-
p mercial, 36.50 residential; the
county rate to 24.06 mills
commercial and 20.46 mills
residential; the public school
support rate to 38.39 mills
commercial and 34.55 mills
residential; the secondary
school support to 33.04 mills
commercial and 29.73 mills
residential and the separate
school support to 38.67 mills
commercial and 34.80 mills
it residential.
The village's portion of the
increase is mainly due to the
increases in operating costs,
specifically in the increased
•costs of energy according to
clerk Bob Heil.

Stanley, Hay
share tanker
Stanley township has
agreed to pay their share of a
new tank truck in an
agreement with Hay town-
ship. The proposed ratio of
billing cost was 65 percent to
Hay and 35 percent to
Manley.
The Clinton' Area Fire
te Board budget was accepted
by council at their regular
May meeting recently.
Stanley's share is 2.12
percent of the $36,410' total
budget.
Stanley endorsed a
resolution being circulated by
the Ausable-Bayfield
Conservation Authority
concerning a modification of
the new safety requirements
,,the
chain saws. The Authority
wants the new requirements
to be enforced when pur-
chasing new saws but does
not feel it can afford to
replace all, the saws it
operates with new ones which
have the safety devices
required at once.
Brueefield and Kippen
street lights will now be under
a knew Ontario Hydro lamp
replacement program and
serviced by Ontario hydro.
The former, dump, range C
lot 4 and range B lot 4 was
sold at a tender price of
$10,001.
SCouncil approved four tile
rainage loan applications in
the amount of $12,000 and
paid out $9,000 in tile drainage
loans.
The road expenditures for
the month were $5,049.88
while the general ex-
penditures were $5,132.06.
