Parents of some children
with learning disabilities
have formed the Association
for Children with learning
Disabilities (ACLD). The
Kincardine News reported
that the town now has its own
ACLD branch.
The association feel that
their- children are not getting
the special attention in
education that they treed.
Communicative disabilities,
learning disorders in
language or math warrants
.special attention for these
children.
The Kincardine branch of
the ACLD would like to see a
study on special education in
the county to show the needs.
Elgin Market and W.E.
Thompson public schools will
be getting full time special
education teachers in their
schools next fall.
Twerkt.y five angry
residents from King Street,
Nelson Street and Huron
Terrace in Kincardine are
protesting a building
variance by Bruce Smith.
The Kincardine News
reported that Smith wants to
build a semi-detached house
with a rear yard footage of 16
feet and a depth of 70 feet.
However, according to the
town's zoning bylaw, a semi-
detached structure must have
a rear yard of 25 feet and a
depth of 90 feet.
- Smith, warned the com-
mittee of adjustment that if
this application was not
accepted, he would im-
mediately get a building
permit to build two duplexes
on both lots instead. This is
allowable sincerduplexes only
require a 50 foot frontage,
which both lots have.
The residents feel that they
pay high taxes to live where
they do, and they don't want
Smith downgrading the area
by `constructing serrii-
detached houses.
The Wingham Town
Council has declared that
anyone who is head of a
department employed by the
town must live within
Wingham's boundaries.
The Wingham Advance -
Times explained that the
discussion on residency was
brought up by the disclosure
that Wingham Police Chief
Robert Wittig is moving to
Turnberry Township. •
Several councillors
received complaints from
citizens who feel that the
police chief should remain in
town, but police committee
,chairman David Cameron
told the council that there is
no official ruling on the
matter.
The council's resolution
will apply only to future
hirings and will not apply to
persons presently employed
by the town.
To relieve traffic
congestion through Wingham
during the 1978 Plowing
match, Turnberry Township
passed a resolution early in
April to develop the B Line
road
The Advance -Times
reported that the road, which
will bypass Wingham, will
now have the backing of
Huron County. Plans are
being rade to repair the ohe-
lane bridge and the . road
surface with hopeful funding
from the Ministry of Tran-
sportation.
The Blyth Standard reports,,
that the village council and
the Public Utilities Com-
mission plan to look into the
cost of a major new water -
main.
Fred and Jim Howson of
Howson and Howson Ltd.,
appeared before council to
discuss this problem. They Exeter niay consider the

explained that the problem
lays in the 6 -inch watermain,
due to loss of friction. He
noted that a larger water -
main would 'lessen this
friction and he suggested a 10 -
inch one.
Jim Howson, also captain
of the fire department, said
that a larger main would give
added protection to the main
street business section and
Manning's lumber yard.
The Seaforth Expositor
revealed that a Dublin
couple, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron
Jantzi have a flying dog.
Sport does not believe that his
place is on the ground but
prefers to spend his days in
his special tree.
The dog • discovered his,
flying talent when he was
chasing' a raccoon and his
determination to capture the
wily animal topk him up a
tree. Since then, he has been
climbing trees and racing
from .branch to branch with
sheer enjoyment.
Sport usually puts on a
special performance of his
acrobatic talents when
visitors arrive at the Jantzi
place. Other times he just sits
on his perch and surveys the
property.
The Mitchell Advocate
conducted man on the street
interviews regarding the
need for a provincial election
and saw a number of varying
opinions.
Steve Elle,,ns said, "That's
17 million dollars we don't
need to spend right how.
Davis just wants more power.
I'm not going to vote and you
can put that down."
On the other side Ken Faust
said, "Any change is an
improvement in the political
arena of Ontario. Whatever
the cost of the election, if the
results are productive, then
the cost is worth it."
Heather Keller answered
the inquiry with, "Oh that's a
tough one. Why don't you ask
me again when you've got an
easier question?"
The Brussels council would
like to know why the Huron
County Board of Education
raised their requisition by
nearly $11,000 over last year.
The Brussels Post ex-
plained that thjs year the
requisition will be $65,474.
The council plans to have
local Board of Education
representative Don
McDonald attend the June 6
meeting to explain the large
increases.
Three . students will get
summer jobs through a
"Youth in • Action" grant
awarded ,last week to the
Brussels, Grey and Morris
recreation committee.
The $4,400 grant will be
used to hire students to
operate a program for pre-
schoolt-.and school children.
Included in the program will
be maintenance and super-
vision of the Lions wading
pool operation of a craft
workshop and recreational
activities.
The project will run from
June 27 to September 22 and
only students returning to
high school, universities or
colleges are eligible to apply.
The new medical centre in
Hensall opened on May 2 and
it saw a busy day. The Zurich
Citizen's News reported that
the centre is being operated
jointly by Dr. Wallace of
Zurich and Dr. O'Connor of
Grand Bend. 'Both will have
alternate hours and their own
receptionists. The new centre
is situated at 154 King Street
in Hensall.

provided with water meters.
Manager Hugh Davis said
that water costs would get
much higher if the PUC had
to purchase water meters. He
explained that the same idea
had been considered' several
years ago and the costs were
found to be extremely high.
The cost of a single meter is
now $100, plusinstallation
fees.
Davis noted that Hensall
had discontinued the use of
their water meters because of
maintenance costs. Although
Livingstone agreed that they
would be costly he still feels
that they must come.
The St. Marys Journal -
Argus reported 'that last
Sunday ;s Bunny Bundle race
was the best yet in its 10 year
history.
Over 200 centries capoed
the 27 mile stretch from St.
Marys to Fanshawe Lake and
raised over $10,000 for the
Crippled Chil'drerf's Fund.
