The Children's Aid Society
of Huron County has ap-
pointed John V. Penn as local
director; effective May 27.
Penn. succeeds Bruce
Heath who leaves the Society
to join the staff of the
‘Children's Services Branch of
the Provincial Ministry of
Community and , Social
Services.
Penn was on the staff of the
Niagara Region Family and
Children's Services from 1968
to 197,6, and previously had
social work experience in
England. He was appointed
supervisor of the county
Society in 1976.
He has a Bachelor of
Divinity degree from
• Richmond College, London
University and a Master of
Social Work from the State
University of New York. He
has completed post -
baccalaureate courses in the_
Clinical Behavioral Science
Program in the department
of psychiatry, McMaster
University and is a full
IODE gives $50 to
local tennis courts
New bylaws were read and
accepted at the May meeting
of the IODE, held in the
Agricultural Building, May
2nd, with Margie Allan,
Regent, presiding.
Fifty dollars was Noted to
Students Council for the
tennis courts.
Tickets on the grocery
draw are going well and
,members will take turns 4t
Corries Store, selling tickets.
Receipts from this draw are
to be used to finish paying for
the lift at Huronview, and
support from. the public will
be greatly appreciated.
Colleen Phillips gave her
report on the Provincial
Convention, held in Hamilton.
It was informative and
helpful for both members and
executive.
Mrs. Evelyn Olde showed
slides of several communities
in the Noc,thern Ontario
region. They gave•an idea of
the quality of life In this area
and also the great beauty of
the landscape. Mrs. Olde's
commentary was apt and
interesting.
The June meeting will be
held on Mt,:,day June 13th a.t
Edith Anne Johnston's cot-
tage at Point Clark, with a
potluck supper meeting.
Each member to bring a
friend. and an unwrapped
article for an auction. Please
do not bring -dishes or silver.

The meeting was closed by
the regent and a social time
followed.
Catholic PTA meets
A general meeting of the
Catholic Parent-Teacher
Association was held on May
3, at St. Joseph's Parish Hall.
The meeting, which was
mainly social, began at 8:30
p.m. with progressive euchre
under the direction of
Treasurer, Earl Heipel. The
card games were enjoyed by
all and many good scores
were tallied.
Prizes for high scores were
won by Mrs. Fran Craig and
Mrs. Toni Brand and prizes
for low scores were won by,
Mrs. Tina Bos and Mrs. Veta^
Priestap. After the cards had
settled, a lunch of cookies and
coffee was served.

executive were presented to
the parents for election.
Those nominated for
Secretary were Karen
Scruton and Marie Middleton
and Karen Scruton was
elected with a total of 17
votes.
Publicity nominees were

Ducharme was elected with a
total of 21 votes. Nominees for
Family Life Rep. were Trudy
Hill, Carol Kerrigan- and
Colleen Phillips and Trudy
Hill was elected with a total of
15,votes.

thanked everyone present for
participating in making it an
enjoyable evening.

training groups using the

Centre for children and youth
and is presently conducting
two parent training sessions
in Goderich and Exeter.
He is a member of St.
George's Anglican church,
Goderich. Mr. Penn, his wfie
Maureen and children,
Rebecca and Jeremy, reside
.in Goderich.
Penn is the author of a
parent training manual and
has contributed articles for
publication in the Ontario
Association `of Children's Aid
Societies' Journal

was held in the Normal Care
sitting room on Monday af-
terhoon with the music
provided by Elsie Henderson,
Norman Speir and Cecil
Skinner.
Mr. Fred Elliott who is the
area representative for Music
Mann tours, of London,
showed coloured% slides of
places of interest in Ontario
for the Family Night
program. The pictures shown
were from the African Safari,
at Rockton, 'Niagara Falls,
Black Creek Village, the
Science Centre, and Marine
Land.
Thirty members of the over
90 Club met on Wednesday
afternoon. The theme of the
program was Mother's Day
and poems were read by Mrs.
Ramsay, Mrs. Meston, Mrs.
Doak, Miss Ellis, Mrs.
McGratten, and' musical
numbers by the Huronview
Orchestra'. The Walkerburn
volunteers of Auburn assisted
with the activities and tea and
cookies were provided by the
kitchen staff.
The Huron Centennial
School of Brucefield
presented their spring con-
cert "The Travelling
Magicians", in the
Auditorium on Thursday
afternoon. The cast included
1.'0 students with the choir, a
ukulele group, the Dancers.

A fair turnout was received at CHSS last Thursday evening to hear the rock group of Dan
Lear, Wayne Lyons and David Lear. The .group played a number of songs "tib make the
CHSS Variety Night, which also featured the rock opera Godspell, a musical evening.

Clintonian Club to . picnic
The May 5 meeting of the
Ciintonian Senior Citizens
was held in the council
chambers owing to the ab-
sence of the president. The
first vice, Mrs. Lue Falconer
opened the meeting with a
poem. -.
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and, Viola
Lampman gave the financial
report. The flower report was
given by Viola. There had
been 11 hospital and 47 home
calls with a number of these
being made at Huronview.
The roll call was answered
with a name of a bird you had
seen lately,
A discussion took place
whether they would have a
picnic but it was voted we
would. Final arrangements
will be made at the June
meeting.
The program consisted of
some good i dings by Ruth
Mulholland and Jennie Wise.
l':sther Kendall looked after
the Dutch auction and
everyone won an article.
Dorothy Brunsdon won the
mystery prize.
Leona Lockhart asked if
she could speak a few words.
She thought it would be to our
advantage to join the USCO
but it was decided to leave it
over to the next meeting and
think it over.
The next meeting will be on
June 2 in the town hall, and all
ladies are welcome to- come
out .for the afternopn and join
with them. Leona Lockhart
and Edna Adams are to bring
articles for the Dutch auction
on June 2. The meeting closed
with the Benediction.
Golden Radars meet
The Golden Radars
reminded its members at
their May 4 meeting that
Senior Citizens week is June
19-26. The Senior Citizens
Clubs of Clinton and Brussels
are invited to Huronview on
Tuesday, June 21 and a
committee of Lorna Radford,
Elmer Trick and Leona
Lockhart will be in charge of
the program.
In other'• business, tickets
are being sold for a card
party in the Legion Hall on
May 25 at 2 p.m. Anyone
wanting tickets should get in
contact with Ceacilia Edgar.

Hoggarth were appointed to
head the committee for the
May 18 meeting. George
Rumball and Wat Webster
will bring the information of a
bus trip to the next meeting.
The meeting was then
turned -over .to the committee
in charge, Elmer and Mary
Trick and Olive Ball. Esther
Moffat and Ed Godkin won
the lucky door draws and
prizes for cards went to
Arabell Bushell, Dessie
Steepe, Percy Gibbings and
Ed Godkin. A social hour was
, enjoyed by all.
