At last week's meeting of
Clinton council, councillors:
+ Learned in a letter from*
Robert Welch, the minister of
culture and recreation that ►
grants and free advice are
available from his ministry
under the Ontario Heritage .
Act for establishing a list of
historical buildings in the
community and pre§erving
them. Council will meet in the
future with a ministry
representative to see what
can be set up.
+ Will send three town a
representatives to the Land
Division Committee's con-
vention in Sudbury in June.
+ Will send back to Saul
Gerofsky of Gerrard's
Shopping Mall a bill for $50
for extra loads of debris
hauled to the Holmesville
Dump by the store during
their renovations- last year
The town has a contract
through the Land Fill Site
committee to haul only town
garbage to the privately
owned dump.
+ Received an invitation
from the Jubilee Three
Committee of Goderich to
submit a message. from the
town for publication 'in the
town's 150 anniversary book.
+ Concurred with a
resolution from the Town-
ships of Shackleton and
Machin against lessening the
penalties for smoking
marijuana under the Nar-
cotics Control Act. Councillor
Ron McKay objected to such
swift action because no one
could tell him what the Act
said.
-17 Will send a flag and
perhaps a representative in
June to the 100th anniversary
of the great fire of St. John
New Brunswick. Clinton, in
1877, sent money down to
help the fire victims and was
asked to be recognized at the
anniversary.
t Learned that the public
works department has
purchased a $690 line marker
to paint lines on town streets,
instead of contracting it out
each year at a cosh of about
$800,
+ Will look into action
against town property owners
who haven't cleaned up their
property as requested by
council, and will enforce the
clean-up by-law.
+ Will look into signing an
agreement with the Board of
education to help the students
council at the high school
build tennis courts, at no
capital cost to the town,
which will also look after
seeking grants.
