ti Reviews Its Record, and Thanks Those Whose Support
Has Made Possible The Club's Service to Clinton and District
- Some Community Projects During Last 25Years
Over the past 25 years, the Kinsmen Club of Clinton have
. been involved in many community project'; and activities.
Due to lack of space, here is just a partial list of their
projects and activities.
1952 -- President: Trev. Ianson (from April until October)
Donated a fracture frame to Clinton Public Hospital.
0 Presented to the town six large waste cans in the "Keep
Clinton Clean" campaign.

1952-53 President: George Rumball replaced Trev. in
October 1952.
Held a monster Kinsmen Karnival on Labour Day. (The
day began with a huge Pet Parade. All money that was
raised was used to pay for a new 12 acre park adjacent to
the Bayfield River. The club had plans for a picnic area,
swimming pool and play area. After the Pet Parade there
were games of chance and a street dance at night.)
1953 was the first year that our Kinsmen Club conducted
the Christmas Toy Project in helping the needy to a better
Christmas. This also was the year that our Minor Hockey
Program began.
1953-54 President: George Rumball
A total of 40 boys participated in the Minor Hockey
Program. Held a big Car Gingo on May 14th. Gave away a
1954 Plymouth, TV set, two special games of $100.00. Held a
local Talent Show, "You Can't Beat Fun" on June 17th and
18th at Clinton Community Park. Donated money to the
Fire Department to help buy a Resuscitator. Kinette Club
also donated $15.00.
0 1954-55 President: Don Colquhoun
3rd Annual Kinsmen Karnival held on Labour Day. Mrs.
Harold Lawson won the big prize - a 16 foot outboard motor
• boat with motor and trailer. Dick Fremlin was appointed as
chairman to organize a town league peewee baseball.

1956-57 President: Harry McEwan
Most of the work conducted in this year was for the
Clinton Community Swimming Pool. This fall they sold
their park due to some problems. Held first Peanut Drive on
• Tuesday, December 4th. Mait Edgar won the trophy for the
best bulletins in District No. 1.
1957-58 President: Don Kay
'First Stanley Cup Hockey Draw was conducted with the
first winner being Miss Phyllis Elliott (now Edwards)
$500.00. During the summer out club .sponsored a Donkey
Baseball Game, their opponents were the members of the
RCAF, STGS. Mess.
1958-59 President: Mait Edgar
b Undertook the major project of numbering all houses in
town. Donated a further $500.00 to the Community Swim-
ming Pool. Held the. first Dale Carnegie Course. Sponsored
by"Squirt Tournament in Clinton's first minor Hockey Day.

1959-60 President: Don Epps.
Donated $200.00 to Retarded Children's Association.
Donated $200.00 to complete plans for final phase of the new
Community Swimming Pool. The Clinton Kinsmen un-
lertook the task to construct -a home on Matilda Street to
give a family that was burned out of a new start in life. At
the zone conference in 1960 our Club won the Sinclair Award
for this project. Our baseball team in the Local Industrial
League lost out to the Legion.
1960-61 President: Ken Scott
Authorized a gift of $200.00 to the Lions Club to help pay
for a new motor needed for the artificial ice plant. Mait
Edgar successfully elected as Deputy -Governor of Zone B.
Danny Colquhoun voted "Kinsman -of -the -Year" for Zone B.
First Stag. Night held at Bayfield Pavilion. $5.00 per ticket,
free smorgasbord .lunch. Don Kay won Kinsman -of -the -
Year Award for District No. 1. Clinton won $100.00 for the
Buggy Race of over 22 miles to Wingham.

One of the major undertakings of the Clinton Kinsmen was
the establishment of the Clinton Raceway in 1970 at the
Community Park. Racing each Sunday during the summer
1961-62 President: Clarence Denomme
Many members who were taught by George Jefferson
conducted a skit of events that happened to the Kinsmen
members when they were his students. The club appointed
two members to the newly former Clinton Athletic
Association. Tom Feeney won Kinsman -on -the -Year Award
at District Convention in Kitchener. Mayor Miller told a tall
tale at "Wingham Trade Fair" to win club $50.00.
1962-63 President: Frank Cook
Purchased a $420,00 recovery bed for the new wing in the
Hospital. Sponsored a Kinsmen Talent Contest. Donated
$650.00 to help the Recreation Committee supply equipment
for the two new parks: Alma Grove and Hugh Hawkins
Memorial Park. zna reewee Ball 'team to win a WOAA "B"
Baseball Championship.
1963-64 President: Bill Chowen
Don Kay and Gord Grigg appointed to a committee to
investigate the possibility of constructing a new Community
Centre. The club promoted Past Dep. Governor Mait Edgar
as candidate for Governor for District No. 1. Mait was
elected at Sarnia. Bob Mann was also a winner at Sarnia
winning the Gord f-Iarbinson Speaking Trophy.
1964-65 President: Torry Feeney
A trust fund of $1,300.00 prdfits frons Annual Stag to beset
aside for contribution towards Clinton Community Centre.
Most of the club members were kept busy aiding Governor
Mait Edgar as District Executive member and as travelling
mates. District officers: Co -Ordinator -Don Kay;
Treasurer -Andy Peterson; Bulletin Editor -Frank Cook;
Secretary -Bill Chowen : Expansion - Ken Scott; Infor-
mation -Clarence Denomme; World Council-Gord Grigg.
1965-66 President: Andy Peterson
Many club members appointed to a committee to con-
struct a new Community Centre. Donated first $2,000.00 to
start funds for the'new building.
since then, the Kinsmen have turned the track Into one of
the finest "B" tracks in Ontario and are presently building
a new grandstand that will stand in the middle of the above
photo.
1966-67 President: Dave Beattie
All members and Kinettes helped to raise over $1,000.00 to
help park cars and take tickets at the gates at the Inter-
national Plowing Match held in Seaforth, Sold and planted
approximately forty centennial trees throughout the town
during November.
1967-88,Presideht: Bob Mann
Donated $2,700.00 for a P.A. system for the ,Arena. Dave
Beattie successfully ran for Deputy Governor of the Zone B.
1968-69 President: Larry Jones
This year started the Kinsme-n Raceway. Assisted in the
helping sponsor the first Clinton Winter Carnival. Supplied
the school crossing guards with stop signs.
1969-70 President: Steve Brown
Celebrated the Kinsmen 50th Anniversary along with the
gther 14,000 from the other 430 clubs. Installed a hardball
diamond and dugouts. Built two Horse Barns, Judges stand,
and Para Mutuel Building at the Community Centre.
1970-71 President: Don Hall
Constructed $3,000.00 worth of fencing, sodded hardball
diamond and continued work on the Race Way facilities at
the Community Centre.
1971-72 President: Al Finch
Covered in Horse Barns at. Raceway and §pent $16,000.00
installing Flood Lights on the hardball diamond. Helped
move families into Senior Citizens Apartment.

1972-73 President: Doug Norman
$6,250 was donated to add washrooms at the Community
Centre. The first year of operating a beer tent in con-
junction with the fair board at the Spring Fair. Donated
walkie-talkie to the Fire Department. ,
1973-74 President: Ron Jewitt
Paved the area around the Pari -Mutual. Passed a motion
to donate $5,000.00 to the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation
Association for improvement of their park at the edge of
Town.
1974-75 President: Gary Jewitt
A picnic pavilion is being built at the Bayfield-Ausable
Park. Celebrated Robbie Burn's Birthday with. Lions Club.
Clinton Centennial celebrations this year. Projects have
included: 1-C.N.I.B. canvass 2- helped sell tickets for
Vanastra pool lottery 3- support for minor hockey and
helping senior citizens move.
1975-76 President: Arnold Riley
The Las Vegas night for the Clinton Centennial Winter
Carnival was a sellout for the Kinsmen with over 200
coming out to bet. The club donated $5,000 to the Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation Authority towards picnic pavilion.
Hosted the Zone B executive meeting in March with 60
Kinsmen from 11 clubs in attendance. In November the
Kinsmen helped the senior citizens move into their new'
apartments on King Street. Over $500 was raised at the
annual Stag.
1976-77 President: Paul Kerrigan
Held a father and child night for the Kinsmen. The club
volunteered their time and a full work crew was out pain-
ting and cleaning up the Clinton Park, preparing for the
horse'races. Held a beef barbecue. Aided a number of other
service clubs in the weekly monster bingos. Decided to
sponsor a Boy Scout club and presently also look after the
Cubs.
