Clinton News-Record, 1977-04-21, Page 151M Morning prayer was held in St.''James Anglican Church, Middleton, Sunday morning. Rev. Wm. Bennett was in charge with Ray Wise reading the lesson and receiving the offering. Next Sunday is Good Shepherd Sunday with morning prayer. Monday, 'April • 25 is Ordination of Priests in 1St. John the Evangelist Church, London, at 7:30 p.m. Bishop T. David Ragg, Bishop of Huron will officiate. There are five candidates for or- dination, including one woman. Preacher for the service will be Canon Terrance E. Finlay. Everyone is welcome to at- tend. The Archdeaconry Service at Walkerton was held Sunday with the church filled to capacity. Archdeacon R. Townshend was in charge of the service. Guest speaker was Very Rev. K.B. Keefe, Dean of Huron. Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Bennett were also speakers. Coffee hour followed in the church hall. ACW Meeting be brought in. Our Thankoffering and Self -Denial Offering was handed in and Delores thanked Jeanne Bennett for opening her lovely home for the meeting. Rev. Bennett closed the meeting with a prayer. Roy and Estelle Wise then shared their trip to Hawaii by showing their slides and Estelle told of the many places 'they visited' It made us all feel we wished we had been with them when Roy' showed a +picture of his Van on the I1th of April with the snow many feet higher than the Van. Mrs. Fred Middleton thanked the couple for sharing their trip by way of the slides. A lovely lunch was served by the hostess with Vera Miller assisting. The April meeting of the ACW was held at the home of Jeanne Bennett, Bayfield. Vera Miller and Delores Dutot were in charge of the meeting. Vera opened the meeting with a poem and then she read the Easter Anthem. Mrs. Fred Middleton read the scripture and Vera Miller read the Meditation followed by prayer. Delores Dutot took the business part of the meeting with Shirley Storey reading the minutes of the last meeting. Lois Smith read a letter which had been received from the foster child. Sarah Storey thanked the ladies for the flowers sent to her while in the hospital. The Social Service report was read by Blanche Deeves and Personals Lois Wise read the correspondence.• The Keith, Vera and Janice treasurer's report was, Miller spent Friday in Sarnia presented by Vera Miller. visiting Mr. and Mrs. Eldon The May meeting is to be Irwin and family. Delores opened her home several evenings having friends of Charlie's in for a social evening of cards and crokinole. The Deeves were pleased to have Charlie as a supper guest one evening. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dupuis spent the weekend in Amherstburg and Windsor. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Maulenfant of Windsor, brother of Mrs. Dupuis, were celebrating their 25th Wed- ding Anniversary. While in the area they visited an aunt and uncle who recently was burnt out of their home. They also visited other aunts and uncles and and relatives in the area. A very nice weekend was had by Ray and Catherine leaving Saturday and arriving home on Monday. A farewell party was held in the Holmesville School Saturday for Keith and Jean Koetsier who are leaving the community. About 70 friends, relatives and neighbors joined in a happy evening of cards and crokinole. _ We were pleased to have along our new neighbors,t,Mr. and Mrs. Nick D,en Boer of Woodstock, who have bought Keith's farm.The winners of the euchre were: ladies'high, Verna Glazier; men's high Edward Deeves; ladies low, Corrie Den Boer; men's low, Keith Koetsier. Bob Elliott, in his usual humorous way, gave the farewell speech. Francis Powell and Alvin Wise presented the couple with card table and chairs as a gift from the community. Elmer Trick played several num- bers on the piano. A beautiful lunch was served by Phyllis Wise, Marion Powell, Eileen Potter and Blanche Deeves.
