Clinton News-Record, 1977-04-07, Page 11ti MvKI]lop taxes may jump this year By Wilma Oke McKillop Township ratepayers face an increase of $27,819 in levies this year that they must pay to Huron County - board of education and Huron -Perth County Roman Catholic separate school board, and the County of Huron. The Huron board of a education has asked for $74,698 for the elementary schools, compared to $60,104 last year, and for secondary schools $89,198 compared to $81,892 last year, for a total increase of $21,900. The Separate school board has asked for $31,505, which is $4,286 above last year's levy of $27,219. An increase of $1,633 must be paid to the county which asked for $76,118 this year compared to last year's request of $74,485. A special meeting has been set for April 12 to 9nalize the budget. In other business at the council session in Winthrop Monday afternoon road superintendent William • Campbell said the total cost for snow removal this winter amounted to about $75,000. He said last winter's costs were $33,000. Mr. Campbell has applied for a provincial grant to help with these heavy expenditures this year. • Mr. Campbell said road washouts were a problem this spring in several locations, but especially on the sixth concession with the worst one at sideroad 20. Passed for payment were road accounts amounting to $8,463.06 and general ac- counts of $1,500.71. She was the R daughter of William and Grace Higgins, Exeter, where she was born. She married FrankB. • Pennebaker in Clinton in 1946. Her husband,predeceased her in 1964. He was a well-known pharmacist in Clinton. Mrs. Pennabaker spent mast of her life in Clinton and was a member of Wesley Willis United Church where she sang in the senior choir.
