United Church news
Palm Sunday service was
held on Sunday morning.
Greeting you were Lloyd Pipe
and Lorna Hunking and the
ushers were Edward Riley,
Larry Howatt, Tom Pollard
and Darrell Shobbrook.
The choir anthems were
"Crown Him" and "Shall I
Crucify my Saviour" with
Mrs. Glenn McGregor,
organist and Mrs. Allen
Shad(lick, choir leader. Rev.
McDo`hald's children's story
was "3 tulip bulbs, no, maybe
and yes". The Junior
teachers were Barbara
Bosman, Sharon Bromley
and Joyce Sewers.

Annual Cub and
Scout banquet
The annual Cub and Scout,
father and son banquet was
held in the United Church on
Tuesday evening with nearly
100 boys, fathers and leaders,
sitting down to a turkey
dinner prepared by the UCW
under leadership of Mrs. John
Radford.
Following the presentation
of _flags, Scout Ron Nesbitt
proposed a toast to the Queen
and everyone joined in the
singing' of God Save the
Queen. „Gordon Shobbrook,
secretary for the group
committee was chairman for
the evening. Cub Robbie
Radford said grace.
Following the meal, Gordon
Shobbrook welcomed all and
introduced the executive of
the group committee: Jack
Lee, chairman; Murray
Adams, treasurer; Mrs.
Margaret Whyte, clerk of
session; Scoutmaster, Jim
Thompson, and Cubmaster,
Stan McDonald. The Scout
and Cubmasters introduced
their leaders: for Scouts,
Bryan McClure, Laura Popp
and Bob Thompson; for the
Cubs, Norman Cartwright,
David .Armstron, David Lear,
Wayne Hulley . and Mike
Overholt.
Cub Jamie Daer expressed
appreciation to the leaders
for such a good meal and Mrs.
John Radford, convenor,
responded. Scout Doug
McClure proposed a toast to
the Fathers and was replied
to by Nick Whyte, father of
David Whyte. Cub Scott
Millar toasted the church and
this was replied by Mrs.
Whyte, clerk of the session. A
toast was made to Scouting
by Scout Bob Penfound and
replied by Scoutmaster, Jim
Thompson.
A number of badges in-
cluding citizenship badge,
one of the .highest awards
presented to scouts, was
presented to Scout, Bob-
Penfound, Cubleader, David
Lear presented skaters'
badges; .Cubleader Wayne
Hulley presented the
collectors' badges; Cub
leader David Armstrong, the
team players' badge; and
Cubleader Mike Overholt, the
artist badges.
Mrs. Garnet Wright in charge
of the kitchen.
Tied for ladies' highest
pointy were Mrs. Allan
Bosman, and Mrs.` Claire E.
Vincent, prize donated by
Mitchell's Family Market;
first prize for men., donated
by Allen's Feed Mill was won
by Kevin Tamblyn; Freddie
Peel and Karen Johnston won
the low. Most 20's scored was
won by Cameron Moon 'and
Bob Penfound.
The lucky chair, donated by
Thompson's Store, was won
by Debbie Preszcator. The
lucky cup prize, donated by
Country Kitchen, was won by
Mrs. John Radford. The
Sunday School would like to
thank all who supported them
and donated the prizes.
Londesboro 4-H
The meeting of Londesboro
III 4-H was held on March 28
at Londesboro hall at 7:15
with seven members present.
The meeting started with the
4-H pledge, followed by the
minutes of the last two
meetings. Roll call was an-
swered by showing the trim
or finish to be used on a
garment and application.
Business of the meeting
was based mainly on
Achievement Day, our
exhibit and its details. The
Club didn't decide on
everything but advanced
enough to write the speech.
Secretary for this meeting
was Golda Sewers and press
reporter was Brenda Millar.
Members read instructions
from the pamphlets.
Demonstration was made of
the slip stitch hem by Julie
Snell and the insertion of
sleeves. Madelyn Sewei,s our
leader, demonstrated the
application of a shankless
button.
The last meeting was held
April 4 at Londesboro Hall.

To close the evening, a very
interesting film on "Sharks"
was shown to the group.
Sunday School crokinole
The Sunday School held a
very successful crokinole
social on Wednesday evening
with a large attendance of all
ages. Dennis Penfound was
the general chairman with
Joan Whyte and Mr.
McDonald assisting as
markers, and Mrs. Dennis
Penfound as timer.
The Junior girls class was
in charge of advertising and
Mrs. Reg Lawson, Mrs. Doug
Vincent. Cathy Penfound and
brook spent last week in
Clinton with Frank. and Dorie
Ellesby, while their parents
enjoyed a week's holiday at
Nashvill, Tennessee<
Mrs. Alice Davidson spent
last weekend in Toronto
visiting her mother, Mrs.
Grace Fairey and her sister
Mr. and Mrs. Byron Pollodk.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sinclair
of Seaforth visited on Wed-
nesday evening with Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Allen.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Scruton,
Colleen and John of Clinton
visited on Sunday with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Allen, celebrating Karen's
birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Grey,
Clinton visited his sister Mr.
and Mrs. Edwin Wood on
. Sunday evening.
Athletic meeting

The Londesboro Athletic
Association met on March 22
at the hall. In ' attendance
were several area residents
interested in erecting lights
at the Londesboro ball
diamond.
The next meeting was held
on April 6, at 8:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in
assisting with fund raising for
the project was welcome to
attend.
W. I. card party
There were 11 tables in play
at the W.I. card party on
April 1st.
Winners were: ladies' high,
Hazel Reid; lone hands, Sadie
McDonald; low, Beth Knox;
men's high, Bert Daer; lone
hands, Perc Gibbings; low,
Edna Hackwell.
There will be another card
party on April 15 and in
charge will be Gay Datema,
Joan Middegaal and June
Fothergill.

CKNX Television.. recently received word that it has been
awarded a first prize In the 1977 Can -Pro Competition,
recently held in Quebec City. Channel 8's entry, titled "A
Christmas Gift", was aired on December 20th. It was
produced in co-operation with the Singtime Association
of the United Churches in the CKNX viewing area. This
program was produced by Erik Schistad, right, (CKNX)
and Rev. Peter Walford-Davis from Port Elgin.
