Seaforth curling news
The curling season is fast
coming to a close. Most of tie
Draws will be finished this
week or early next week.
That leaves about one week
for playoffs. Winners will be
presented with trophies and
prizes on the night of the
closing pot luck supper.
The ladies executive held a
meeting on Monday evening
and discussed several in-
teresting topics. Watch for a
newsletter coming sometime
this spring listing new
executive, new policies and
general news for the Ladies
Club; also a financial report
will be included.
I keep promising a date for
the pot luck supper. I know I
can give you that by next
week as the executive had a
meeting on Wednesday but

Londesboro Ladies League
• Alley Cats have a 20 point
lead in the standings with 110
points. Rolling Stones are
second with 90 points while
the Brown Onions are third
with 78. Playgirls are in the
basement with 72 points.
Dorothy Carter had the
high single with 345 and
Audrey Thompson had high
triple of 738. Dorothy Carter
also had the high average of
11 199 and Lynda Kennedy was
the most improved bowler
with a plus of 18.
Clinton -Blyth Ladies
Bionic Wonders had to
battle to win the second
series. They' finished with 62
g while the Ups and Downs had
56 for second place. The
Striking Demons finished
with 54 points for third place
while the Windmills and Odd
Ball Bunch tied for fourth
with 51 points each. Bonnie
Braves were in the cellar with
46 points. '
Nellie Burkholder had the
high single and triple of 341
and 764 respectively. Linda
itt Cooper had high average of
207.

Molson's Crown Mixed
Marie Collins. made a clean
sweep of the ladies' honors
with a high single of 248, high
triple of 710 and a high

On Saturday, April 2, the
Campbells and Pattersons
travelled to Toronto to curl at
the Avonlea. Catherine Keys
curled for Grace. The team
won two of their three games,
but didn't have a high enough
score to win any prizes.
Curling in the Vanastra
Spring Thaw Bonspiel this
weekend, was Glen and Lois
Hayter with Robert and
Jennifer Anderson. They won
consolation prize for the 9:00
draw.
Also curling in the
Vanastra Spiel were Bruce
and Marg Whitemore with
Jim. and Phyllis Lodge. They
won the consolation prize for
the 11:00 Draw.

Alley Cats continued to lead
the playoff with a pinfall of
8,660 points. X -Rated were in
second place with 8346 and
Newt's Newfs edged into

aren't far behind in fourth
with 8;155. The Five Stars are
just 40 points ahead of Di's
Cheats for fifth place with
7,675 to 7,635.

Bell were the playoff winners.
Betty Switzer had 274 for
ladies high single.. Linda
Reinhart had a triple of .687
and Val Marriage had high
average of 224. Joe Whalen
led the men with a 272single
and 678 triple. Don Switzer
had high average of 211.'
Londesboro Men
Robins held on to the lead in
standings with 6,201 points.
Hawks are second with 6,183
and 'Eagles third with 5,980.
Doves hold down fourth with
5,889 while Finches are fifth
with 5,767. Owls trail with
5,321.
Huron-Dex
Headpins are in front in the
standings with 107 points.
Zepplins are second with 86
and Try-Alls third with 83.
Whiz Bangs .trail with 74
points.

Paddlers brave icy water
in Optimist canoe race

It wasn't surprising the
fastest time on the 14 -mile
course in the 4th annual
Seaforth Optimist Club canoe
race, one hour and 36
minutes, was set by the canoe
team of Ray Haley of Lindsay
and Garnet Deaver of Kirk -
field in the men's expert
class.
They were two of the 56
couples and eight singles
entered in the race who set off
Sunday afternoon from the
Egmondville bridge along the
winding Bayfield River to the
finish line at the Vanastra
road bridge east of Clinton.
Large crowds thronged the
river banks from many
vantage points to cheer on the
paddlers, especially ,,family
members and friends, who
skimmed over the icy waters
under cold, but sunny skies.
Other first place winners
were: Warren Knight and
Linda Smith both of RR 3,
,:Brussels., mixed amateur
class, in one hour, 49
minutes; men's amateur
class, John Beaton, and Clare
Magee, Etobicoke, one hour
50 minutes; min's advanced
amateur class, Dale and
Blake Campbell,. RR 2,
Barrie, one hour 51 minutes;
kayak class, Tony Risler
London, one hour 51 minutes;
family class; one under 16
Douglas Drinkwater and his
13 -year-old son, Paul, of St.
Marys, two hours, one
second : and service club
class Douglas Krziyzek, RR
1, St. Marys and Kevin
Doupe, St. Marys, two hours
eight minutes.
. The proceeds from the
event will go to minor sports
by the Optimists and a
donation to CFPL-Radio's
annual Bunny Bundle -drive
for crippled children.

development
planned along
Maitland shed
Maitland Valley Con-
servation Authority Monday
received approval from the
Ontario Government to carry
out demolition and land-
scaping of dwelling sites
acquired in --the. Turnberry
floodplain.
An Ontario grant of $54,000
Aver a four-year period will,
according to Natural
Resources Minister Frank S.
Miller, permit- the Authority
to proceed with the Turn -
berry floodplain project
which includes long-term
acquisition' of floodplain
properties.
The project area,is situated
along the Maitland River,
immediately west of
Wingham, and comprises
some 100 acres including a
number of swellings. As these
dwellings are acquired, they
will be demolished and the
sites landscaped.

The' fourth meeting of
Londesboro 1 4-H club was
held on March 23. The roll call
was answered by all.
They went over the skit and
talked about Achievement
Day and Mary demonstrated
and discussed stitch"" in the
ditch, casings, self casings,
and applied casing.
We ended the meeting with
the motto and refreshments
were served.
