LAWS: In loving memory of a
dear son who was taken from us
so suddenry without goodbyes,
two years ago March 21; 1975:
It's not the tears at the time we
shed
That tell us the hearts that are
broken
But the lonesome tears in the
after years
When our Grant's name is
spoken.
Softly we stoop and gather them
all
Unseen, unheard they are always
near.
Still loved, still missed, still very
dear. +
For this month comes back with
deep regret.
To bring back a day we will never •
forget
You fell asleep without a goodbye
But our memories of you will
never die
What we would give if we pould
say
Hello Grant, in the same old way
To hear your voice to see you
smile
To sit with you and chat awhile
For you who have a son
Cherish him with care
For you'll never know the heart
ache
Till you see his empty
chair.—Always remembered and
sadly missed b37 Mom and
Dad. -12x
SHEPHERD - In loving memory
• of our wife, mother and grand-
mother, Mrs. Annie Shepherd,
. who passed away one year ago on
March 25, 1976:
We watched you suffer,
We watched you die,
But all we could do was just stand
by
When the time came
We suffered too,
For you never deserved what you
went through.
God took your hand and we had to
part.
He eased your pain and broke our
hearts.
You fell asleep without goodbye,
But memories of you will never
die.
Greatly missed by Norman and
the family. -12

Family Care
Workers meet
The Huron County Family
Care Workers held the March
17 meeting at the board
Rooms. Clinton Hospital with
a good attendance.
"The president opened the
meeting with a poem, and 'a
number of new members
joined.' `
Speakers for the evening
.were Huron County's four
Victorian Order of Nurses,
who gave a short talk and led
a discussion, answering
questions.
Mrs. Ethel Clarke thanked
nurses for coming.
This year's wages were
discussed. The meeting
closed with -a social half hour.
With the streets bare, for the most part, the Clinton
,public works are cleaning up the havoc from the worst
winter in 50 years, and replacing the half-dozen $arking
meters broken off over the winter, Here Harold Gibbings
chips out a hole on Albert Street.,(News-Record photo)
Mrs. Florence Elliott is
home from Toronto, where
she spent several days with
her son Bruce and family.
We'd like to express the
sympathy of the community
to Mr. and Mrs. Murvin
Johnston in the passing of
Murvin's mother last
Thursday. The flowers in. the
church on Sunday were from
her funeral.
UCW hears speaker
Mrs. Pat Wheeler, co-
ordinator of volunteer ser-
vices and public relations at
the Bluewater Centre for the
Developmentally Han-
dicapped, was guest speaker
at the March meeting of
Goshen Church UCW .
Members from Zurich,
Bayfield, Kippen and Varna
were also present to hear
Mrs. Wheeler tell of the
homelike atmosphere that
has been created for these
"Citizens of the World" at the
Goderich facilities, end of the
steady progress the residents
are making in learning basic
life skills. Some of them take
training in pre-employment
skills.
The purpose of the centre is
to help each one function at
the optimal level of his or her
abilities. Activities residents
are involved in include a
summer animal farm (which
will be open to the public
beginning on April 3),
ceramics, woodworking,
cooking, packaging of
products for industry, and a
car wash and wax shop.
They are paid regularly for
the work they do. Volunteers
are needed to help train these
people,.as most of it has to be
done on a one to one basis. It
is amazing what some of
these mentally handicapped
people can do when given
patient help and training.
The Bluewwater Centre
serves Huron, Perth, Grey
and Bruce counties, and has
96 residents, plus a parental
relief program where a few
people can stay for up to three
weeks while those who care
for them have a holiday.
The worship service was
led by Marjorie, Margaret
and Sandra Hayter, and
special music was provided
by Jill and Julie Armstrong.
A delicious lunch was served
by the Goshen ladies.
OPP starts special enforcement
BY OPP CONSTABLE
R. W. WILSON
Throughout Ontario, the
O.P.P. have initiated a
program on a large scale in
an effort to reduce accidents.
The program is called
SELECTIVE TRAFFIC
ENFORCEMENT.
Accidents are a mystery in
some instances, but most
causes are 'cut and dried.
Accidents due to
misjudgement and actual
offences against the Highway
Traffic Act of Ontario which
is a Provincial Statute set up
formotorists to follow in
order to prevent accidents.
To determine causes and
location of accidents an OPP
team each month from each
detachment, - studies accident
reports accumulated from
the past three years for each
particular month that have
occurred in that particular
patrol area. From these
reports statistics are ob-
tained as -to how many ac-
cidents occurred, where they
occurred, what time of day
they occurred, and possibly
the reason they happened.
A program is set up for
each month indicating a
particular area of highway a
patrol car must patrol, at a
particular time of day and
what particular offence the
officer should be looking for.
From this accident pattern
derived from the study each
month, and the SELECTIVE
TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT,
the O.P.P. hope to prevent
accidents.
Barring the "white-out"
storm conditions realized this
winter, the program is
working 'well as accidents
have been reduced.
SPEED A FACTOR
Many types of resources
are used to stop accidents
causing violations such as
aircraft, radar and cruiser
patrols.
Obviously radar is used
strictly for speed control and
is a very accurate and ef-
fective method. As speed is
involved in most accidents,
and it is found that accidents
in general have been reduced
with the 50 m.p.h. maximum
limit, • it will be enforced
heavier all the time.
The new moving radar has
been introduced in Perth and
Grey Counties and mill soon
be in this area. The stationary
radar (sometimes hand held)
is in operation now.
Speeders beware....we are
out to try and save your life
and the lives of others around
you.
