Colts finished for season
The Clinton Colts dropped
three games in a row and
were eliminated from further
action in the Intermediate
"C" playoffs.
The Colts had tied their best
of seven Group final against
Port Elgin at one game each,
but then lacking manpower,
they dropped the next three
contests to the powerful
Suncoast.
The Sunocos won the series
even without the help of high -
scoring Dean Symons, who
.was on vacation during the
series.
Last Tuesday night, March
15, the Colts, suffering from
injuries and lack of spirit,
dropped a 6-1 decision in Port
Elgin, with Jim Guenther
scoring the solo effort for the
Colts, who dressed only 11
players.
Colt netminder Dennis
Fleischauer held back a
strong Port Elgin attack last
Thursday night in Clinton, as
the Sunocos beat the Colts 6-3.
Jim Guenther was again
the strong man on the Clinton
offensive line, scoring two
goals, while Larry Haugh
picked up the other tally.
The Sunocos put the icing
on the cake last Friday night
in Port Elgin, winnin;, the
series four games to one by
thumping the Colts 11-0.
The Colts had only 10
players dressed, and right
from the opening face-off, it
was obvious. the Colts were
done for another year, the
best they had in five years.
Port Elgin now goes on to
meet the Fergus Green
Machine, winners of the other
group finals.
Figure skating club news
The intermediates and
seniors skated their final
training session for the dulls
season on Wednesday, March
16 with an unfortunate ac-
cident.
Intermediate skater, Janet
Shanks, Kip -pen, fell during
practice and, broke her ankle
quite severely. We're very
sorry, Janet, that you should
start off your Spring Break
holidays bound in a cast! We
hope your recovery will be
swift, sure, and that you will
be back skating with our club
in the fall.
Our junior professional,
Miss Olive Lapp, submitted
her resignation on the last
day. We appreciated Miss
Lapp's loyal contributions to
our club and wish her our
very best wishes on her next
endeavours.
Seven Clinton skaters
participated in the WOSW •
Invitational Competition in
Sarnia this past weekend'.
They were Cheryl Beane,
Brenda Dupee, Margaret
Dupee, Peggy Jones, Kim
Marsden, Shelley Middleton,
and Karen Schneider.
Brenda Dupep won a
"first" in her flight which
qualified her to skate in the
finals 'on Sunday. Feeling
miserable with a cold, she
mustered up all the strength
and poise she had and
managed a fifth place
standing out of nine com-
petitors in the finals.
I think this is the first time
that a Clintonian has skated
in the finals,Congratulations,
Brenda You've put Clinton
on the skating map!
With 725 registered com-
petitors, it's almost an
overwhelming experience for
"little" Clinton to even try to
compete. However, . it's a
stepping stone to greater
Heard wins scoring title
Although the season ended Clinton Mustangs last
Saturday night, Robert Heard
finished well ahead of
everyone else to win the
Central Jr. "C" scoring
championship.
Heard finished the season
with 117'points on 69 goals and
48 assists to become the first
Clinton player ever to do so.
Randy Millar also of
Clinton was a distant second.
The Mustangs despite
being eliminated enjoyed a
good season considering
there were approximately 12
new faces in the line-up and
being a young team, they loot
forward to bigger and better
things to come in; future*
seasons.
The Clinton Mustang
executive wish to thank all
the fans and merchants etc.
for supporting the team for

be quite so frightening for the
rest of the gang to try again.
All in all, it was a very busy
weekend with parents, pros
and skaters dodging from one
arena to the next to watch or
coach the skating.
Some watched the fashion
parade of colourful costumes
while others took note of the
interesting programs,
beautiful choreography with
some excellent music choices
and dynamo jumps and spins

The ten years and under

excellent entertainment.

Hahns eliminate Stangs 3-l.
By Bryan Marriage
The New Hamburg Hahns
defeated " the Clinton
Mustangs in OHA Junior C
playoff action last Saturday
night by a score of 6-2.
In this semi-final series the
Hahn's eliminated the Stangs
in four games. 3-1.
fn the opening period, the
Hahns opened up a 3-0 lead on
a . pair of goals -by Dave
Schroeder and a single by
Jamie Haun.
The Mustangs narrowed
the gap in the second period
on goals by Mark King and
Ken Robinson, but Rick
Cressman put the Hahns
ahead by two when he not-
ched a single late in the
second period.
The Stangs tried in vain to
overtake the Hahns, but
failed to beat the strong
goaltending of -New New Ham -
burgs John Sweazey.
The Hahns scored two more
unanswered goals in the third
period to finish the Mustangs
for the season.
Clinton man elected to
Ont.Baseball Association
Bryan Marriage of Clinton
was elected' to the executive
of the Ontario- Baseball
Association at their 60th
annual meeting over the
weekend in Kincardine.
Other members of the 1977
executive are Jack Lee of
Thorold, president, Keith
Weese of Corunna, first vice-
president; Harve Bailie of
London, second- vice
president; Jim Frail of
Hamilton, third vice-
president ; and Carmen Bush
of Toronto, Gerry MacLean of
Thorold, Cliff Hocking, and
Mr. Marriage, all executives.
Ron Pegg of Flesherton
was appointed to his second
term as secretary -treasurer
and Vic McCallum of Sarnia
returns as supervisor of
umpires.
Outgoing president Jim
Lutton of Oshawa, who is a
scout for the National League
Montreal Expos, blasted the
new American League
Toronto Blue Jays, and also
attacked , the OBA Mem-
bership.
He said that internal
problems are threatening the
existence of the OBA.
"I don't believe there is any
association that - trusts the
other. . . there's a lot of
hackstabbing and mistrust.
There's no co-operation
between the secretaries of the
individual associations and
the OBA. If there is any, its
very minimal," Lutton said.
New president Lee agreed
with Lutton that one of the
ORA's main concerns is
dealing with the mistrust and
hackstabbing between
associations.
'I feel it is diminishing
gradually. A convention of
this nature with little
bickering, is helping. We are
going to' have to sit down with
all parties," Lee said.
"But the calibre of people is
improving ... not that people
in the past were incapable'.
But now we've got a lot of
good educated people to

Lee said the OBA hopes to
get into the area of coaching
and umpire development with
the Canadian Federation of
Amateur Baseball
Associations - similar to the
National Coaching and
Refereeing Certification
Program in hockey.
Lee said it was an area in
which the OBA are doing
what they should, and have
not developed an instruction
program and booklet as fast
as they should, but are taking
steps to improve on it.
Outgoing \president Lutton
also blasted the Blue Jays for
not promoting the game, by
not sending speakers, or even
little souvenirs like all of the
other major league clubs.
In other business, the OBA
executive accepted a
proposal to increase its
membership to 1.8
associations with the ad-
mission of the Ottawa -Carlton
Baseball Association.
The OBA had 9,714 players
in its association, while the
number of teams increased to
622 from 604 of the previous
year.
There also are no changes
in the playing rules this year.
An amendment presented
by. the WOAA was carried
which includes an extra
category for tyke to midget
teams-.
Instead of only four
categories, A through D, an E
category will be added for the
four divisions.
Bryan Marriage,
spokesman for the WOAA
said the extra categories
were introduced to encourage
smaller centres to enter
baseball teams.
Teams are categorized now
by merit on whether they will
play A,B, C, D or E baseball.
" The only other motion
presented by the WOAA
proposed, that the merit
system be changed to some
extent by adding to the
constitution that no
municipality with a
population of over 7,999 may
compete in D and E
categories.
A question was raised how
the population of a town can
be determined if the town is
part of a municipal region.
One delegate said that while
he could only draw players
from his small town, the,
region's population would put
him in a much larger class.
