A Farmers Spiel, sponsored
by McGaven Farm Equip-
ment was held on Wednesday
March 2nd. The 9:00 Draw
was won . by Jim Hawkins'
rink from Goderich. Second
prize went to Bill Lobb with
Bill Fleming, Ross Lovett and
Doug Kirkby..
Les Knight won third prize
and consolation- went to Glen
Hayter, Mery Hayter, Elmer
Dennis and Bob Anderson. On
the 11:00 Draw prizes went to
Roy Pennington's rink, Ted
Perrin's rink, Allan Grant's
rink and Jack Peck's rink.
The Second Draw in our
MIxed Carling league came to
a close this week with Don
Deighton on top for the
Thursday early draw, Bob
Wilson for the Thursday late
draw and Bill Campbell Jr.
for the Friday draw. Playoffs
between these three rinks will
declare a winner for the
Second Draw trophy. I'll keep
you posted for the results.
On Saturday, a rink skipped
by Bob Wilson with Bill
Campbell, Doug Rowcliffe
and John Patterson played in
the Cash Spiel in Exeter and
came home with third prize.
A couple of rinks of
Seaforth ladies curled on
Saturday in Vanastra, Milly
Lobb, Marlene Forbes,
Sharon Wilson and Marjory
Coleman won second prize on
the 9:00 Draw. Also playing
on the 9:00, but out of the
prizes were Marjory Papple,
Marilyn Thomas, Gloria
Riley and Marg Sallows.
Saturday was also a busy
day at our own club when the
ladies catered to the Toronto -
Dominion Bonspiel. Rinks
from as far away as Toronto
and Windsor come to play in
this spiel which has been held
annually in Seaforth for 17
years.
Sub -division playoffs for
the OCA two -team events
were held on Sunday. Playing
in the Governor -Generals at
Vanastra were, Dave Cornish
with John Patterson Sr., Bill
Lobb and Don Deighton; and
Glen Hayter with Neil
Dolmage, Bob
Fotheringham, and Jack
Kyle. They won their games
against Listowel teams in the
morning but lost in the af-
ternoon games to Teeswater.

Gerald Smith, Bill Roberton
and Steve Brown; and Bill
Campbell with John Pat-
terson Jr. Doug Rowcliffe and
Mike Thomas, lost in
Goderich to Goderich rinks

curled with Bill and Marg
Fleming in a Mixed Spiel in
Brussels on Monday and won
third prize on the 9:00 Draw.
The special events com-
mittee for the ladies division
of the Club are holding a
ladies fun day on March 15th.
They have planned a game of
curling followed by a supper
cooked by the men of the club.
Sounds like a terrific idea
and lots of fun. Plan to attend
if you can. The girls have a
poster in the upper lounge for
you to sign if you can come.
Reports indicate that the
tickets for the Pork Draw are
selling well. The Draw is to be-
made
emade at our final Pot Luck
Supper, the date of which has
not yet been set. .
Hullett .Happenings
Constable Wilson
On Wednesday, February
23, Constable Wilson came to
Hullett Central and showed
the pupils a film on van-
dalism.
He brought some
photographs and there was
class discussion afterwards.
Vision nurse
Between the dates of Feb.
21-25, Mrs. Splan, a nurse
from the Huron_ County
Health Unit, gave eye tests
here at Hullett.
The grades who took part in
this program were kin-
dergarten and grades four
and eight.
Storm safety speaker
On Friday, Feb. 26, Mr.
Kane of the Hullett -Wildlife
Management Area came to
our school to tell us how to be
prepared if we ' get storm -
stayed in a car or bus.
He instructed the pupils on
necessary supplies needed in
the vehicle and how to treat
frostbite. Most of the pupils
will at some time likely find
the information very useful.

Volleyball tournament
On Feb. 26, the Hullett
volleyball teams travelled to
CHSS to participate in' an
inter -school tournament. The
boys won their , first three
games and then met up with
Blyth. They couldn't get
things together and ended up
losing. With the wind Knocked
out of their sails, the boys lost
also to Huron Centennial of
Brucefield, coming 'in third
over all.
The girls` team won all of
their games except against
Blyth. They claimed the
runner-up title.
Public speaking
On Monday, Feb. 28 Hullett
held its annual Public
Speaking competition. The
participating grades were
four to eight. The,grades were
divided into two divisions.
The ,winners of the junior
division were: first place,
Janice Daer, a grade six
student who spoke on her pet
dog. Second place was Susan
Van Egmond, a grade four
pupil who spoke on dolphins.
and third place was taken by
Jeff McNarren, . also from
grade four, who spoke on his
trip to the CN tower.
'In the senior division, John
Lawson from grade seven
took first place with a speech
on door-to-door salesmen.
Second place was won by
Karen Farquhar, from grade
seven, who spoke on seat-
belts. Third place was taken
by Cameron Moon, also from
grade seven who spoke on the
history of the Toronto Maple
Leafs Hockey team.
We would like to
congratulate the winners and
thank all speakers for some
very good speeches.

second five times and had six
third place finishes from 38
starts.
Swinging Beauty got her
second win this year and a
new record of 2:11.1 for
driver Ron Williamson.

Laverty of Seaforth:
Swinging Beauty now has two
wins, four seconds and one
fourth from seven starts this
year.
At Flamboro-bn March 2,
Shockem All, a four-year-old
gelding by Josie's Victory -
Claybrook Melody, owned by
Bruce and Ray Volland of
Goderich, took a new record
of 2:10.2 for his second win
this year with Bruce driving.
Shockem All, formerly
owned by Grant and Carl
Fisher of Goderich, was' the
only horse claimed at' Clinton
last year during the race
meet.
Seaforth horseman John
Muir got another second with
his Johnnie G. pacer, Single
Johnnie. The eight-year-old
gelding now has two wins and
three second place finishes
from five races this year
after being off since 1975.

Windsor on March 2 in 2:05.

Armbro Prince, owned by

raced again on March 7 and
once more he was third.

on Friday night.

Clinton `died at her home
suddenly on March 5th, 1977.
She was 79.

County and Maggie Murdoch

Blyth and lived there until her
marriage to Fred Reid when
the couple moved to Stanley
Township. They moved
Clinton jn 1952.
Mrs. Reid who was a
member of Wesley -Willis
United, Church, is survived by
her husband Fred, three
daughters, Mrs. Bruce
(Anna) Keys, Varna; Mrs.
Gordon (Ruby) Hill, Varna,
and Mrs. George (Doris)
Cantelon, Seaforth. She is
also survived by 15 grand,
children and 14 great-
grandchildren..
Funeral services were
conducted by Rev. John
Oestreicher at the Beattie
Funeral Home on Tuesday,
March 8th.
Interment will follow in
Clinton Cemetery.
