The Listowel Banner story says the OPP denied talking with Mrs. McNichol, as Mys. McNichol had predicted they would. Qver 150 people have mt}de statements inthe murder investigation that keeps eight to 10 officers working on the case each day. Mrs. Stewart's partly burned body was found on a sideroad outside of Listowel. She died as a result of a broken neck and had been beaten with fists of a blunt instrument. London police meanwhile, are investigating the shooting death of 27 -year-old Ivan Wheeler, a ...Belgrave native who moved into the city last fall. Mr. Wheeler, who was driving for U -Need -A -Cab was found slouched behind the wheel of his cab outside a Londbn recreation club by a constable on patrol, ac- cording to a story in the Wingham Advance -Times. Initial investigation • shows there was no sign of robbery as a motive. Mr. Wheeler's money changer was still attached to the dash of his cab and a briefcase was in the front seat. The Advance -Times also carries a story of a museum to open in the town sometime in June. The Wingham and District Heritage and Historical Society is com- pleting work on the museum that will occupy the second floor of the former post office building. The museum will house early -artifacts and memorabilia pertaining to Wingham and district. Blyth's Centennial Celebrations this summer will feature the presence of Ontario's Lieutenant Governor Pauline McGibbon at its opening ceremonies. A story in last week's Blyth Standard reports the meeting of the Centennial Committee, who has also invited Murray Gaunt, MPP Huron -Bruce and Robert McKinley, MP Huron -Middlesex, to help officiate at the opening ceremonies. The two-day celebration, July 30 and August 1, will feature con- tests, a dance, and a number of reunions, Groups renting the Kin- cardine Community Centre fRr dances may have to hire an off-duty police officer to patrol the event in the future. According to'the Kincardine News, five windows were broken after a stag and doe party, but no charges have been laid because there were no witnesses to prove who was responsible for the damage. Goderich's Old Timers will be one of 32 Canadian hockey teams to compete in the annual European Inter= national Oldtimers' Hockey Tournament in Zurich, Switzerland on March 11. The Old Timers, composed of players 35 years of age and older, were formed last November, and have played exhibition games against London, Ilderton, Kincardine, Tillsonburg and Wallaceburg. The 25 players, accompanied by 10 fans, will open against Rapperswil, a Swiss team, and follow with a game against St. John's Nfld., says a story in the Goderhsh Signal -Star. Each team competing in the tournament is guaranteed to play three games. , Exeter town councillors are drafting a bylaw to fine core area residents who fail to shovel snow from their sidewalks, ' but are having second thoughts ' over the suggested $75 penalty. The Exeter Times -Advocate carries a story that the 'councillors have decided the original fee suggested to be Organist presented The Annual Congregational meeting of Carmel Presbyterian Church com- menced with a Pot Luck supper which was well at- tended by members and families of the congregation. Following the supper, Rev.' Jarvis was appointed chairman for the meeting and Mrs. Robert Taylor was appointed secretary. The reports of the various organizations of the church were given and approved after which Rev. Jarvis called on Mrs. Malcom Dougall who has retired as organist of the church after many years of service.. Ile expressed the ap- preciation of the Congregation for the years of service and Mr. Bert Thompson, clerk of the session presented Mrs. Dougall with a cheque. The study, to be carried out by the engineering firm of James F. MacLaren of London, will form the. basis of an. ap- plication for a Wintario grant to help with the cost of the work involved. The World Day of Prayer service will be held in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Friday March 4th at 2:30 p.m. when Mrs. Gwyn Whilsmith of Exeter will be the guest speaker. Rev. W.D. Jarvis con- ducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday. The sermon was "Jesus Our Brother is Suf- fering" Mrs. Robert Taylor led in the service of music at the piano. The Holy Com- , munion service will be on Sunday March 6th at 10:00 a.m. Mr. James E. Owing to the weather only 14 members answered the roll call. Mrs. Leona Lockhart, the secretary -treasurer read the minutes of the last meeting, and also gave the financial statement. A motion. was made to pay Mrs. Chas. Nelson the curator's fee and also for being the secretary - treasurer. • Report on cards was given. A letter from Miss Jane Pengilley, listing Home Economic projects was read, such as needlepoint for beginners, clothing clinic, festival of dairy products and personalize your pattern. The district annual will be held in Belgrave on May 30 and a report on the recent quilt project in the Parish Hall was given by Mrs. Muriel Grigg and Mrs., Merv. Lockhart " thanked her, and then she gave a reading on Canada and what it means to us right here in Clinton: Mrs. C. Colclough, Mrs, M.
