Adult education for the
purpose of strengthening
family life will be provided at
the 1977 Lenten Services at St.
Joseph's R.C. Church, James
St., Clinton.

share their knowledge and
sometimes suprising private
opini, ns on the. various
*peels of the theme - "The
amity."
For. five consecutive
• Sunday evenings, ,com-
mencing February 27 through
to March 27 from 8 p.m. to 10
p.m.- Q'clock, the series will
be open to people of the neigh-
bouring communities and
churches as well as
parishioners.Each topic will
be of general concern and will
be basically Christian in its
presentation.

respective speakers are
scheduled as follows :

Hardy, a chartered ac-
countant who is a partner
with the London firm. of
Clarks.onand Gordon and Co.
March 20, "Alcoholism in
the Family," -with Father
Joseph McGraw, pastor of St. ,.
Patrick's Parish, Lucan.
March 27, "Mortality
Today" with Father Michael
R. Prieur, S.T.P., author,
lecturer, and teacher, St.
Peter's Seminary, Lbndon.
Each of the series will open
at 8 p.m. in the church with
prayer and a talk by the
speaker. A coffee hour will
follow in the church hall
where a more 'informal talk
will be given along with
questions answered from
both a question box and from -
the floor. The evening will
close at JO p.m. sharp.
Last surviving band
member dies
Wilfrid Arthur
aThe leader and last sur-
iving member of the Arthur
Radio Orchestra,4 Wilfrid
Arthur, died suddenly last
Thursday, Feb. 3rd,. 1977 in
*Clinton Public Hospital at the
• age of 72.
Mr. Arthur and his five -
0 member dance band, that
played. out of CKNX radio,
Wingham, had Western
Ontario, people kicking their
heels to the music - for 20
• years.
A resident of the King St.
Senior Citizens' Apartments,
Mr. Arthur was the son of the
Po late John Joseph Arthur and
Annie Scott. Born in Sarnia he
lb spent most of his childhood in
Gorrie and Wingham before
coming to Clinton in 1960.
Music and the orchestra
was Mr. Arthur's whole life,
except for his few years in.the
RCA during World War II. He
was 'a member of the Clinton
Canadian Legion.
Following . the war, Mr.
Arthur concentrated on his
M work as a, garage mechanic,
eventually graduating from
the American Technological
Society's auto engineering
course.
In 1927', he married Mary
Hingston in Ripley and the
couple moved to Wingham.
This September, the couple
would have celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Arthur is survived by
phis wife, two sons,` Ray in
Wingham„ and David in
London; five daughters, Mrs.
Earl (Helen) Mayes, RR 3,
Hollyrood; Mrs. Ben (Gwen)
Reinhart, Okanagan Falls,

B.C.; Mrs. Mick (Veda),
Conte, Toronto; Mrs. Jack
(Joan) Einboden, Vanastra;
and Mrs. Bob (Willa) Harris,
Bluevale. , He was
predeceased by one daughter,
Jean Patricia, and a son,
John Robert.
Mr. Arthur is also survived
by 27 grandchildren and one
great grandchild.
A committal service was
held from Beattie Funeral
Home, Clinton on Feb. 6, with
Rev. L. Lewis officiating.
Mr. Arthur will be interred
in Wingham - Cem.e'tery.

_.in the legion Hall Hensall at 2
p.m. Feb. 16 with Elaine
Townshend as guest speaker.
Mrs. James 'Drummond
will give the motto, and Mrs.
Wm. McDowell the current
events. The roll call is a way
to teach children to be good
citizens. ' •
All members are asked to
invite a friend. The hostesses
are Mrs. Michael ,Connolly
and Mrs. James Chalmers.

Sehoenhals were out Saturday afternoon to fix a broken
water main on Highway 4, near Huronview. Water to
Vanastra was cut off for about 21/2 hours . workmen
augered and then repaired the 6 inch water main that broke
due to the rumble of heavy trucks travelling over the site.

Mrs: Bessie Colclough
Mrs. Russell (Bessie)
Colclough, of 129 Eric St.,
Clinton, died at Clinton Public
Hospital on Thursday,
February 3, 1977. She was .in
her 72nd year.
Mrs. Colclough was born
the former Bessie Lockwood,
on June 15, 1905. She was the
daughter of the late
Frederick and Jane
(Folland) Lockwood of
Hullett Township. -
She attended Hullett Public
School until the family moved
to Clinton.
In 1937 she married Russell
Colclough in Clinton.
Following their marriage, the
couple took up farming on the
Bayfield Concession, retiring
to Clinton in 1964.
Mrs. Colclough was a
member of Ontario Street
United Church, the WI and
the Clintonian Club.
She is survived by her
husband, and two sisters,
Mrs. J.L. (Janet) Osborne,
RR 6, St. Thomas, and Mrs.
Jim (Mabel) Wiggins, San
Diego, Calif., She was
predeceased by six sisters
and five brothers.
Funeral services were held
from the Ball Funeral Home,
Clinton on Feb. 5, with Rev.
L. Lewis officiating. Inter-
ment was in 'Clinton
Cen'etery.
Pallbearers were Mrs.
Colclough's nephews, Ken,
Doug and Bob Osborne, Tom
Rathwell, Bill Colclough, and
Ralph Holland.

Storm delays I.I. meeting
/Owing to the storm, the
January meeting of the
Woman's Institute was held in
the board rooms of the
Agriculture office on
February 2.
The president, Mrs. C.
Elliott opened the meeting --
and roll call was answered by
17members. Mrs. Leona
Lockhart, othe secretary -
treasurer, read the minutes
of the last meeting and gave
the treasurer's report.

from Mrs. Verna Maluske,
,the president of the FWIO
The district annual will be
, held in Clinton in May. Miss
Helen Mc.Kercher is suc-
ceeded by Miss Molly McGee.
A long letter from Mrs. Wm.
Thomas Wilmer Reid of
Bayfield died in University
Hospital, London, on January
30th, 1977 at the age of 73. Mr.
Reid was the son of the -late
Margaret and John Reid of
Stanley ' Township, born in .
1903. He married the former
Mabel Boyes in Brucefield in
1928, and the couple lived in
Stanley Township until their
move to Bayfield in
November 1976.
Mr. Reid was a member of
Orange Lodge No. 1035 and
St. John's Anglican Church,
Bayfield. He is survived by
his wife, one daughter, Mrs.
Ralph (Mona) Stephenson,
RR 1, Varna; one brother, Dr.
Harvey Reid, Toronto; four
grandchildren and one great-
grandchild. Mr. Reid was
predeceased by one sister,
Ette, and one brother, Lorne.

ficiated at the funeral service

Clinton on Feb. 2nd. Inter-
ment was in Bayfield

Mrs. G. Smith read a very
timely article on Quebec
premier Rene Levesque and
Mrs. C. Elliott read a piece on
the W.I. work. The meeting
closed and a nice lunch was
served by Mrs. Alice Lawson
and her group.
Golden Radars plan bus trip
An upcdming .bus trip to
Scott's, Aquaga Lake, N.Y.
was the main . point of
discussion when the Golden
Radar . Club met in the
Council Chamber on Feb.
2nd.
