Wesley -Willis UCW
hears from foster child
The Afternoon January
meeting had a New Year's
theme. Mrs. John McGregor
was in charge of the worship
and the program and she was
assisted by Mrs. Harold
Adams, who read a Bible
Reading from Philippians
and offered prayer. The
opening poem was "God in
Each Season".
A controversial' article
from the "Mandate" was
read entitled "Gordon -Sin-
clair's Message to Saints".

New Year's message from
the Moderator, the Rev.
Wilbur Howard, and the roll
• call was answered with fees
for 1977.

and read a letter from our
Foster child in Indonesia.

in May. It was also decided to
go back to a Penny -A -Day
project for 1977. Mrs.
Fingland was nominated to
the bazaar committee.
Various announcements
were made for 1977:, Noon
Luncheon, March 31; Mor-
ning Market, Nov. 5; Picnic
to Meriesetung in June-;
Christmas Party, Nov. 30. .
These are all overall

Huron -Perth UCW
hear challenging talk
A record number, more
than 360 ladies, attended the
10th annual meeting of
Huron -Perth Presbyterial
United Church Women held in
Northside United Church,
Seaforth with the president,
Mrs. Leonard Strong,
Egmondville presiding..
Particularly challenging
f8 was the talk by special guest,
Miss Elaine Townsend,
Clinton, about the Awareness
League of the Physically
Handicapped whose aims are
to ,bring about architectural,
41) legislative, and 'social
changes to benefit han-
* dicapped. It is important for
the handicapped person to get
out and take part in the
,p community, she said.
This comes from personal
knowledge as she herself,
born without arms, is now a
well-known feature writer
and. columnist. The ultimate
goal is that handicapped and
non -handicapped participate
together and thus understand
* each other.
Miss Ann Reuber, Strat-
4i, ford, spoke on the theme of
the day, Citizenship of Two
Worlds. She spent three years
in Japan in the work of the
church but is pr-esently
teaching here. The real test of
citizenship, she said, is in
what.a person does.
The test of who you are is • in
what you do. Being aware of
the people close to us and the
i,► needs around us makes us
citizens of one world, the, one
right here. Help us to pray
expecting something to
happen and then let us live
with what happens," she said.
Mrs. Georgina Wolz,
'Maidstone, president of
London Conference, spoke
briefly and installed officers
for 1977. She said givings to
the Mission & Service Fund
are well over the projected
amounts.
Dennis Sexton gave an
interesting presentation on
the "Universal Code System"
clarifying many points about
this new system of parcel
check-out.
Annual reports were
presented in a novel way,
comparing the various
departments to the different
• parts of a dress pattern. All
showed much activity during
the year with the auxiliaries
being .pictured as active,
helpful people in the com-
munity taking part' in many
things.
Mrs. T. W ilbee, .. Seaforth
welcomed the ladies and Mrs.
H. Babensee, Stratford
conducted the morning
worship. Mrs. Graham
McNee, Dungannon, and Mrs.
Fred Pridham gave book
reports and asked the ladies
to visit the literature table.
Mrs. E. Cox, Hofmesville
introduced Miss Townsend
and Mrs. I. Close, Seaforth
introduced Miss Reuber, Mrs.
W. Hockett, Trinity Ashfield
UCW dedicated the ,offering.
Special music was by Mrs. N.
Boulger, Monkton who sang.
Mrs. C. Whittick, Blyth
gave the closing prayer. Mrs.
J. Axtmann, Winthrop used a
huge special thank you card
to give the courtesies.
Mrs. Roy Galway,
Listowel, gave the
nominating committee

it.

There wasn't a quart of milk to be found in Clinton on
Tuesday morning as blocked roads prevented the trucks
from getting through 'from Kitchener and London.
Ironically, farmers only a few miles out of town were
dumping milk into snowbanks as bulk tankers couldn't
get in to pick it up. (News -Record photo)
