There were seven tales in
play at the WI card party on
Friday night. Winners were;
ladies' high, Hazel Reid; lone
hands, Idles. Niiens ; low June
Fothergill; men's high, Addie

Shaddick; low, Margaret
Taylor.
There will be another in two
weeks on November 19 at 8:30
p.m. In charge will be June
Fothergill, Dora Shobbrook,
Mary Robinson and Elma
Jewitt.
Cub Pack 0'
The 1st Londesboro Cub
Pack had a most enjoyable
and informative evening on
Tuesday evening when they
travelled to Mr. and Mrs.
Doug Riley's arena at Win-
throp.
Mi:-tind Mrs. Riley spoke to
them and demonstrated the
care of horses as well as the
training of them. The boys
were highly interested in the
e'vening and especially
having the opportunity of
watching both English and
Western Riding.

sister, Mrs, Green, in Guelph.
• "Treasures" was the
worship theme for the
November UCW meeting. It
was based on scriptuye from
Matthew 6 19 to 34. Assisting
Joyce Dawson with the
program were her daughters
Brenda and Bonnie, who sang
two duets, "Happiness Is'
and "Ws Impossible'. Joyce
led us on. a "treasure hunt"
for the many things we enjoy
in our daily lives which can be
looked upon as treasures.
Bonnie read a poem "A Day
Worthwhile"; and Brenda
read, a. Remembrance Day
poem, "1 Founda Friend'.
Marjorie Stirling presided
for the business meeting. One
thousand dollars was voted to
the Board of Stewards, who
have had a new furnace in-
stalled and are having new
eavestroughing put on.
Donations Were given to the
John Milton Society, and to
the new - Huron -Perth
Resource Centre in Mitchell. •
It was decided to have a
Christmas concert, with the
Sunday School teachers in
charge of numbers from their
own classes.
The December meeting will
follow a potluck supper at 6 on
Wednesday, December 1st
with former members in-
vited.
CLEAN CHURCH
Members of the UCW had a
housecleaning bee at the
church/a, couple of weeks ago,
and since then have painted
the cupboards, walls and
floors of the Sunday School
room and kitchen. •
SOCIAL NOTES
The Orange Lodge held a
dance at Bully Gully on
Saturday evening with a good
crowd in attendance. The

Recent visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. Murdock Morrison
and family were the latter's
brother Mr, Kenneth Rogers
and Mrs. Rogers, Miss Donna
Rogers and Mr. Brian Jones,
all of Wawa, Ontario.
Mrs. Geo. Reid spent two
weeks recently with her
sister-in-law, Mrs. Verna
Greenbury, in Flint, Mich.
Mrs. Robert C. Reid of
Waterdown and Mrs. Joanne
Peuhkurinen of Mississauga,
who were attending the
Convention for Exceptional
Childten at the Holiday Inn in
London, spent Thursday and
Friday nights with Mrs. Geo.
Reid.
Bob Roberts had a suc-
cessful hunting trip. He and
Phillip Madden of Brantford
were hunting near Burke's
Falls, and returned with a
deer. _ Phil and his wife Pat
spent the weekend with Bob
and Gwynne.
Wilmer Reid has been a
patient in Seaforth Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Reid
have bought a new home in
Bayfield and are moving this
week.

Miss Annie Love McConnell
is perhaps the oldest living
nurse in Canada at theage of
100 years.
Born in Beet/on. Ontario on
November 15, 1876, she was
the daughter of Reverend
James and Mrs. McConnell,
one of five children. Her early
lite was spent in Beeton,
Delaware and Varna.
Ontario, where her father
was minister of the
Presbyterian churches.
Miss McConnell was a
member of the graduating
class of the St. Catharines
School - of Nursing,
receiving her diploma in 1903.
Much of her nursing career
was spent in Pittsburgh Penn.
U.S.A. where she earned an
enviable reputation for her
professional skill and
reliability.
Miss McConnell is, very
proud of the fact that her
family came from the
Southern United States, and
she was for many years a
member of the Daughters of
the American Revolution.
Her mother was Mary
Fleming, whose family were
land owners in Mississippi
- before the American Civil
War, and-wkose mother was a
sister of Betsy Ross who
made the first'American flag
of Stars and Bars, after the
war. Her father, a native of
Ireland, attended college in
Mississippi, where he met
and married Mary Fleming.
They lived for a time in
Plaquemine, Louisiana
before emigrating le Canada.
Miss McConnell was for

Agricultural Societies -
District 8 was held in the
Clinton Legion Hall on
Wednesday, October 27. 1976
with a supper banquet.
William Westman.

welcomed over 125 delegates
and guests to the meeting, as
well as William Flynn, Vice -
President of Central Huron
Agricultural Society and
Donald Symons, Mayor of
Clinton.
Entertainment was
provided by Debbie Flynn,
Harold Black and Marie
Flynn with step dancing and
vocal solos.
Queens of the Fairs in-
troduced were Beatrice
Thompson, Seaforth, Esther
Scholl. Mitchell and Deb.

Miss McConnell returned to
'Canada at the age of 89 to be
near her remaining relative
in Ontario. She now lives at
the Extendicare Nursing
Home in London, where her
birthday will be celebrated
with her family, friends and
Extendicare staff.

by Madonna McQuaid.

Barb and Judy Carter, with
Elizabeth Carter, tied for

piano solo, followed by

the two acts.

presented by Don Pullen, Huron County Ag.' Rep., left, for outstanding work itta4411 Club
in Huron County, he also won the Vincent Fann Equipment Trophy for being the top
member in the Huron County 4-11 Tractor Club. Jim was presented his awards at the 441
Achievement Night held at Central Huron Secondary School, Cilnfon last Friday night.
