board's 1976 priorities hold
little .chance of receiving
ministry approval for at least
another year.
jack Lane, Superintendent
Business, presented a
summary of the an-
npuncement of the minister of
education in a memorandum
to school boards on October 1
regiiig the 1977 general
legislative grants. Mr. Lane
*revealed that the board's.
expenditure per pupil wiould
• increase from $1.197.54 to
$1,254.22 or 1124 percent in
1977. Translated, he said, this
means the total ordinary
expenditure for grant pur-
, poses may increase by
$303.800 or 9.7 percent. He
explained the difference
between the per pupil in-
crease and the total yield in
dollars is due to a projected
decline in enrolment.
The following resolution to
the Minister of Education was
approved by a narrow margin
(6 to 5) : "Whereas the
determination of the number
of trustees and the
distribution of those deter-
mined for a separate school
board is set out in Section 110
of the Education Act. 1974,
and for purposes of the
distribution, the equalized
assessment of residengal and
f*m properties only is to be
used, and in the proposal for
the Reform of Property
Taxation in Ontario, farm
land and farm buildings are
to be assessed at 100 percent
of market value with the
taxes paid by the Province,
and if the proposal in its
present form should pass
final reading in the
Legislature, a question
arises: Will farm land and
*arm buildings be deemed to
be: (a) business and com-
mercial assessment, or (b)
' residential and farm
assessment.

they are completely urban).
When lists of the teaching
staff for 1976-77 were handed
out to the trustees, Francis
Hicknell of Seaforth
questioned why a married
teacher is permitted to use
her maiden name= the staff
list when her husband is also •
on the teaching staff. He was
assured this was perfectly
legal if she wished to use her
maiden name and he was
referred to Maureen McTeer
(who refuses to be called Mrs.
Joe Clark).
Mr. Vintar presented a
letter from the Auxiliary
Bishop of London, John M.
Sherlock, requesting the
board members as in-
dividuals and as an important
diocesan' organization to
undertake year long
crusade for the success of
Renewal 77. and to strongly
encourage the members to
participate in the special
deanery masses which will be
held .throughout the coming
year to encourage the entire
local church to assist our
Priests at Prayer.
The trustees were invited to
attend the sessions of the
Professional Development
Day for the teachers to be
held at St. Patrick's School,
Dublin, on October 18, when
the special speaker at the
day -long event will be Rev.
Michael Prieur of St. Peter's
Seminary, London, who will
speak on The Call of the
Christian in 1976 and Living
the Call in morning and af-
ternoon sessions respec-
tively.
Trustees Ted Geoffrey of
Zurich and Michael Connolly
of Kippen reported on the 25th
convention of the Catholic
Parent-Teacher AssOCiPtion
in St. Catharines on October
1,2 and 3, which they at-
tended. Mr. Connolly said
they were informed the
C.P.T.A. is becoming weaker
and weaker. He said there
were no representatives there
by members from the Huron -
Perth or Middlesex
associations, trustees only.
Howard Shantz of Stratford
remarked that perhaps the
