Miner soccer teams open season with bang Clinton minor soccer teams opened their regular Huron Minor Soccer schedule with a bang. The peewee's beat Bayfield 13-1. Fleming Flyer's (mosquito) beat Goderich 4-1, the atom Royals also downed Goderich 6-2, while the squirts, rounded it off with a 1- 0 win, also over Goderich. In the peewee game, the Bayfield side was under continuous pressure. At half tune the score was 4-0 and it was all Clinton in the second half with the Clinton boys adding nine more goals before Bayfield scored from a penalty shot. Charlie Wise got four goals, Stephen Lobb, three; Brian Tompkins, two; Steve Wilson, two; with singles, from Tony Gibbings and John Elliott. The Fleming Flyers had little 'trouble in downing Goderich 4-1. Clinton scorers were Brand Forbes, two and Chris Ladd and Scott Bell, one each. The atom Royals were also in good form. Goals from Randy Marriage, with three; Scott Kay, two; and a single from Kevin Armstrong were enough to put Goderich away -6-2. , In the squirts game, the young Clinton boys were hard pushed in the first half, but kept the Goderich boys off the scoreboard. A goal by John Scruton in the second half was enough to Make a clean sweep for the Clinton boys. (News -Record photo) Fleming Flyers sting Goderieh Mosquitos The Clinton Fleming Flyers -stung the Goderich Mosquito soccer team last Saturday morning 4-1 in the opening game for both teams in the Huron Minor Soccer League. Big Forbes (Brad) scored two goals while Pee Wee (Chris) Ladd. and Scott Bell each scored one. Goderich scored their only goal on a penalty shot making the final score 4-1 in favour of the Fleming Flyers. Clinton looked good throughout the complete game and should The monthly meeting of the Goderich Township Recreation Committee was held on* Wednesday May 26 with six members attending including Hazel McCreath, Joe Fritzley, Hugh Lobb, Doug Yeo, John Westbrock and Diana Brand. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Joe Fritzley and adopted as read by Hugh Lobb. The tentative date for the Goderich Township picnic will be discussed at the June meeting. Fire area girls 40 Rosemary Arnistreelt The Clinton Soccer Club travelled to Ingersoll last weekend to take on the Flyers in a Second Division game Of the London and District Soccer League and played an impressive game to take two 'points with a 1-0 victory. Garr Hesslewood, in goat for Clinton, made the dif- ference between the two evenly matched teams, as he played a spectacular game, stopping the fast, hard shooting Ingersoll forwards on every try at the Clinton net. Oil several occasions, Hesslewood seemed to ap- pear from nowhere to stop point blank shots and remained confide throughout the 90 minutes of play. See you there Juveniles win seasons opener The Clinton Juveniles started off the baseball season well last Saturday night by defeating Mitchell 10-5. Mitchell took, an early lead in the first inning with three runs by Rowaand, Ward and Erickmeye. Clinton did not do as well and knocked in only one run, by Dave Counter. However, Clinton was left unchallenged in the second, third and fourth innings when Mitchell did not score a single run or get a hit off started Mark Nicholson. Dean Ryan brought home a run when he got on base by a walk. Another run was brought in by Dave Bartliff on, a tremendous base run, and Bill Irwin secured the last run by a walk to base. This brought the score at the end of the fourth in to 4-3 in Clinton's favor.
