Goderich township council
approved six tile drain loans
at their last regular meeting
adopting the policy they
established as a result of
Ministry of Agriculture
cutback in drainage money
made available. Council
received two applications for
tile drain loans at their last
meeting totalling 820,600 and
along with four applications
they had on file agreed to lend
the applicants 50 percent of
the costs at six percent in-
terest.
The new policy council is
using is a change brought
about by recent cuts in money
made available to townships
by the province for tile drain
loans. In previous, years the
township lent applicants _ 75
percentiof the money needed
to drain fields on farms at
four percent interest.
Government cuts forced them
to reduce that to half, in-
crease the interest and adopt
a first come first serve
system of lending until the
money is gone.
Ontario made $89.900
available to Goderich
township as of April 1, 1976.
Applications so far this year
total 897,500, all of which have
been approved but none
actually lent. The first, come
policy applies to the finished
product according. to town-
ship clerk Robin Thompson.
The township may approve of
a loan but until the work is
done and the field drained the
money is not given out by
council. In this way. ac-
cording to the clerk. an ap-
plicant cannot sit on his
approved money until he can
get the work done or until his
land is ready for draining;
keeping another applicant
who is ready to start work
from getting underway.
In other business council
requested the ministry of
transportation and com-
munications to drop the 45
mile per hour speed limit on
the western limits of Clinton
on Highway 8 and make the
zone 50 mph. The request was
made after the M.T.G. asked
the township to comment on
the removal of the 45 mph
zone.
Building permits were
issued to J.C. Hindmarsh for
a drive shed, Ron Moore for
an addition to a cottage. Kase
Vanden Heuvel for manure
storage, Alex McAlister for a
house and Gary Preszcator
for a sow barn.
An application to build a
house was turned down
because the permit, applied
for by Alfred Costello. was for
a three bedroom house and
inferred a year round
residence to council. The
location of the house is in an
area zoned seasonal
residential preventing year
round living quarters to be
erected.
