He apologized to the community for not defeating the government last week on the hospital closing issue, but said that the rest of the province was dead against an election at this time. (News -Record photo) Shipping accident claims mans life Rosaire Desroches, 46, of 8 Berkely Avenue, Port Colborne, died Tuesday af- ternoon at the Goderich harbor after an accident occurred while he and a crewmate, Allison Da!aphney of Englishtown, ,Nova Scotia, were inspecting lifeboats aboard the lake freighter, 'The Westdale. The two men were working with John Birch' -Of the Canadian Coast Guard conducting a routine in- spectiiitref the freighter as part of operations to bring it out of winter storage. They were lowering lifeboat on the harbor side of the freighter when the accident took place. Desroches, the third mate on the freighter, was in the small craft with Dauphney and had successfully lowered it to the water. Dauphney managed to save himself by grabbing a lite ring thrown to him from the freighter. Investigating officer Sergeant George Bacon of the Goderich police force said the exact cause of death was not known and that police were awaiting the results of an autopsy. Huron County coroner Dr. R. W. Flowers pronounced Mr. Desroches dead on the scene.
